This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Ambrose scuttled away from the bite, only to see the sun's rays gently illuminating the Growlithe. Oh crap, it could heal!? The crab took a few steps back to plan its next move, eyes widened in shock, as Dan smirked appreciatively. Looks like Ambrose still had his work cut out for him.
He opened his claws wide, letting out a stream of Bubbles that he hoped would slow the freshly-healed pup down.

Ambrose knew he'd be screwed if he kept staying on the defensive. All this dodging was starting to tire him out, and as soon as he stopped moving another bite or two would take him down. Rather than just keep waiting at the edges of the battle, he decided it was time to go for a few last hits.
Panting a bit, he rushed directly into the Growlithe's attack, figuring that taking some pain of his own would be worth a close shot at finally landing a direct Bubble. The foamy bubbles poured directly from his claws: if he scored this hit, would it still be too little, too late?

Ambrose quickly flattened himself to the ground, ducking under the Growlithe's bite. He reached out with both claws, hoping to snag the Growlithe again for a powerful Vice Grip. The crab's breath was heavy: he was running out of energy pretty soon . . .

Ambrose threw up his claws to block, but it barely did a thing to stop the Growlithe's powerful rush. He flew back from the force of the impact, landing roughly in a heap as he skidded against a nearby tree.
A claw weakly grasped the side of the tree. Ambrose weakly stood, trembling like a leaf but letting out a cocky smile. He raised an eyebrow tauntingly, as if to ask "is that all?"
He rushed forward, drawing a claw back to try and hit with another vicious Vice Grip. It was time for Ambrose's last stand.

That still didn't put him down? Ambrose was starting to panic a bit. He backpedalled away from the dog's snapping jaws, clacking both claws as fast as possible. He tried to fire a mass of Bubbles between him and the Growlithe, hoping to slow its advance after exhausting all of his other options.

Ambrose continued scuttling back, panicked. Crap crap crap he was getting closer and there wasn't enough time to dodge and he was too tired and maybe he could get in just one last atta-
SLAM! The krab went flying once more, hitting right into a tree. Once more he fell into a crumpled heap, and this time he wasn't getting back up.
Dan walked over to his fallen crab, picking him up gently and checking him to make sure he wasn't too injured. "You did great out there," he assured him. The two didn't really have a multitude of other Pokemon to train on, considering how strong the ones outside Sol City were. Mostly it was just battling videos, punching bags, and shadow boxing for the crab to work with. His first real battle may not have been a success, but Dan was still damn proud anywhere.
"Your Growlite is really well-trained!" he remarked, turning to Addi and smiling cheerfully.

rondo bounded back over, using another morning sun to recover any more damage. "thank you!" addi smiled, ruffling the growlithe's fur and giving him words of praise. "your krabby did well. it'll be a great kingler some day!"
"Thanks," he replied. It was certainly in Ambrose's blood: his parents' Kingler was a powerhouse. Dan's mind wandered for a second, wondering if she was still keeping watch over the house for them . . .
"And yours is going to be a great Arcanine. How'd he become so fast?"

addi chuckled as rondo practically preened under the praise. "well, he is going to be an arcanine sometime. in fact..." addi reached into her bag and pulled out a firestone, looking down at rondo.
"rondo, would you want to?"
the growlithe practically leaped for the fire stone.
