This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Dan and his Krabby stood at opposite ends of the training arena, the crab cockily grinning as his ranger partner pulled out a few beanbags.
"We've trained your power enough," the ranger decided, booting the device up. "Now let's see how you handle some defense! Think fast!"
First came the beanbags, Dan hurling them quickly at the crab. He juked left and right, a little surprised by the speed of the bags but managing to weave around them. One he managed to catch with a Vice Grip, waving it tauntingly at Dan. The trainer cocked an eyebrow at the Krabby's challenge, taking out his Styler with a slight chuckle.
"Wonderful! But you never know what tricks your enemy has up their sleeves!" He began tracing out the symbol of Thundurus, each line making the Styler crackle with more electrical energy. With the final line he drew he pointed, Ambrose's eyes widening with shock as a massive lightning bolt came arcing toward him.
As the smoke cleared, Dan let out a proud laugh. Ambrose stood in the center of the blast, dazed but not significantly hard. There was mud all around the Krabby: a timely Mud Sport kept Ambrose safe from the ranger's sign. "Great job, Ambrose! Now let's take a brea- huh, what do you mean counter?"
By the time Dan realized what the crab was saying, a beanbag was already flying toward his gut. Or, rather, it would be if Ambrose didn't accidentally undershoot. The crab let out a sympathy wince as Dan took a beanbag to the nads, hunching over from the pain. Still, the ranger was an honorable loser. "N-nice shot," he muttered out. "I-I think I'm gonna rest for a bit. Ow."
That day Ambrose learned a valuable lesson: always take advantage of an opponent's weak spots!
Ambrose was always one testy Pokemon, but he seemed unusually antsy today as he practically dragged Dan into the training center. Immediately he folded his arms, looking expectantly at his ranger partner and waiting for some targeting dummies to appear.
By the time one appeared, Ambrose let out a cheer of delight and bumrushed it. He leaped at it in a flying tackle, simply trying to shove it in position for a brutal downward Stomp. Once the dummy was knocked into he ground he began slashing at it in a wild frenzy with his Metal Claw, snickering a little with each strike.
He didn't stop the attack until Dan physically separated the two, Ambrose flailing madly. "What's gotten into you today?" the Ranger asked, looking a little concerned. "Even by your standards you've just been acting strange. Something up?"
Why yes, something was up. And wide. And very, very large. While at first Dan thought Ambrose was doing his best impression of a professional wrestling mime, soon he got the point clearly: Ambrose wanted to evolve soon. "Just like that damn pink egg," he heard the crab mutter.
"Why didn't you just say so?" he asked, grinning mischievously. "If it's evolution you want, evolution you'll get! Just gotta work for it first~"
Another training dummy appeared. Then another. Then more and more, until a small army of training dummies had popped out for Ambrose to dismantle at his leisure. The crab shed a small tear: looked like Christmas came early for this crab!
"You ready, Rollins?" The Clauncher nodded, safely wrapped hanging from Dan's open backpack. The ranger held his spear tightly, a look of pure determination sparking in his eyes. "You watch my back, and I've got our front. Let's see how many of these test dummies we can take down."
He pushed a button, dummies popping up and surrounding them. Dan didn't even pause for a second, rushing forward and smashing one right on the head with the blunt end of his spear. Rollins popped up behind him, firing an Ice Beam to try and freeze the dummy right behind them. He then ducked back into Dan's backpack, avoiding the eyes of his hypothetical enemies and hopefully staying out of the fight for as long as possible.
It was an interesting contrast between their fighting styles. Dan was a whirlwind of rage, relentlessly striking a single target with a barrage of blows while wildly striking at others to keep them at bay. In contrast, Rollins was a controlled sniper. He snapped from target to target with precise strikes, generally aiming to slow advances in a froth of frost and bubbles. He generally watched Dan's back for him, making sure to ice anything that got too close.
Finally, the finished. Dan leapt in a circular motion, spinning his spear to slice at each target surrounding him at once. Rollins followed suit, his Ice Beam spinning as Dan spun. The "fodder" dealt with, he lifted his spear and brought it right down on the target dummy "leader," letting out a vicious shout of "IRON HEAD!"
He panted heavily, exhausted but feeling triumphant. He grinned darkly, fists tightly clenched around his weapon. ". . . Heh. Time to show those Scourge freaks what we're made of.
We're coming for you, Rhea! The Scourge are going to regret the day they messed with us!"
