This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

was it a good idea to sleep in the catacombs? no. was it a good idea to sleep in the caverns at all? probably not. but rhea didn't really have a choice-- it was too late to get out of di manes before dusk. she had to stay here, unfortunately. lucky didn't even know there were dead people here, so...she was fine.
elekid enjoyed rhea's company so it tagged along. rhea tried to set up a little camp, but it was...well. at least she tried, right? Crash

Navigating caves was so much more fun when you had a fistful of fire.
The Fire ranger sign wasn't the brightest and strongest of flames, but it made a fairly serviceable torch for a Ranger with no other options. The two had hoped there was at least a town in the caverns, but instead there was just a holy burial ground and a ton of rocks. Not exactly premier lodging conditions.
The two may have been getting tired, but they tried to keep their spirits high. "Lost? No, just a bit of spelunking, right?" Dan asked his companion, the crab shrugging as if to say "I guess."
As he turned a corner, Dan noticed someone trying to set up a campsite. It was hard to see in the darkness, but she definitely looked familiar. And she looked like she could use some help.
when she heard a voice ring out in the caverns, rhea was quite shaken. she was half expecting to turn and see some sort of ghostly figure standing above her, threatening her. no, she wasn't afraid of ghosts but she'd certainly rather not run into any.
luckily, it was just dan. and his fire sign lit up the caverns faintly. rhea hadn't been planning on meeting anyone, so she hadn't "turned on the lights," but she would now. with a swift movement, rhea drew the ELECTRIC SIGN, which burst out, a flash of light brightly illuminating the cave. she looked at dan, squinting.
That was MUCH better. Dan wished he could get his hand one one of those sometime. It certainly beat going by "torchlight."
Oh, thank goodness, it was Rhea! Dan let out a relieved grin, while Ambrose tried to hold in his snickering at the condition of her campsite. Of course, a quick glare from the ranger managed to shut the Krabby up before he started running his mouth.
"Okay then," he responded. After all, if there was one thing Dan knew from their last meeting, it was that Rhea was scarily competent. If she could whip a campsite into shape like she could whip a Scourge into shape, the campsite wouldn't stand a chance.
"Guessing you've been touring the caverns too, eh?"
she was expression-less, seeing dan here. he was friendly. she didn't really...mind him, honestly. he wasn't awful. lucky disagreed, though. the chansey was not happy to see ambrose again. she frowned. "what do you think you're doing here, bubby?"
rhea nodded. "the caverns are nice." she shrugged. "although i wish i hadn't come so late in the afternoon. now we have to spend the night here." she glanced at her campsite and blinked.
The heck did she mean "doing here?" Last Ambrose heard, this cave didn't have Lucky's name written on it. "Buying groceries," he dryly remarked, hopping off of Dan's head and scuttling over to some rocks. Maybe the soft-bodies didn't appreciate the value of a good resting place, but to Ambrose this cave was prime real estate!
"I can tell," Dan remarked. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks as far as the eye could see. "Wait, you had a Grovyle helping you, right?" he asked. His eyes flashed a bit as an idea came to mind. "Maybe you could whip up something with the Grass sign. At least it'd help make something softer than rocks, and maybe something to burn for a fire."
grass sign? rhea had no desire to sleep on flowers. but it still was an idea-- and a portal to an even better one. she thought for a second, before scribbling something with her styler. rhea drew the NORMAL SIGN. and suddenly, the campsite was putting itself together, sleeping bags and tents levitating to their correct place. "thanks for the idea." she started to brew some tea.
lucky frowned at krabby. "if you go over to the deli-- i hear you can get 50% off on crab." Crash

Dan couldn't help but look impressed. The Normal sign could do that? Shit, he should be using that more then! In fact, he began tracing up the Normal Sign as well, assisting with the assist in order to speed along the rebuilding even further. This was a way better idea than napping on cave moss!
"Least I could do," Dan responded, smiling a bit. "How's your Chansey been?"
Ambrose snickered. "People think I'm valuable? Okay then." Considering the prices people paid for crab, that was almost a compliment. Even at half off!
rhea works on the tea. "she's been good." she says, glancing at chansey. honestly, not much had happened since they met in ceres. she poured herself a glass and looked up at dan. "you want tea?" but the helping hands didn't wait for an answer; they grabbed the tea right from her hands and brought a cup to dan.
chansey smirked. "they're having a sale becuase crab is stinky and no one's buying it." Crash

she gulps down the tea quite rapidly, only stopping to speak. "we got here three hours ago," she says. "maybe four." she puts her glass down and pours more tea into it, mumbling: "what about you?"
lucky looked offended. "whoever made the rhyme did the crime." Crash

"We just got here an hour ago," Dan replied. "Ambrose needed a bit of a rest before we could go any further." The crab shot Dan an irritated, "I'm fine" glare. Accepting concern was not exactly the crab's strongest suit.
There might have also been another Scourge run-in, but Crash doesn't have his threads in order so how the heck do we know? Shroedinger's Fight for now.
"Shame it was already getting dark by the time we got here. There's still so much to see here."
Ambrose grinned. NOW she was getting it! "Whoever spoke last set off the blast."
rhea ignores dan a bit. "i really don't know why i came in here so late." she said, hand clutching her forehead. "now we have to sleep here and leave tomorrow, which is really annoying." she sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "just. very dumb of me." she sips more tea.
chansey looked at krabby with a glint in her eye. "he who denied it must have supplied it." she smirked. Crash

"I dunno, is it?" he asked. "It's probably a safer bet than the middle of the woods, at least." Sure, there was a village by the Amberwell, but it was very small and very close to an active Scourge area. In Dan's book, braving the caves actually was't too bad of an idea. The cold and discomfort were much gentler roommates than the Scourge.
Ambrose returned her smirk, letting out another snicker. "Whoever rebuts it, cuts it!"
"no, but i could have gotten through here and spent the night in nerio." she says, dropping her backpack on to her sleeping bag. she had nothing against di manes caverns-- but rhea would still much rather spend her time sleeping in a hotel bed than on a cave floor. even if it was expensive.
elekid, who had been watching the whole chansey and krabby ordeal, walked up to chansey's side. lucky scoffed at the krabby before her comeback. "he who denied the passing of gas most likely engaged in the flatulant act."
and the elekid conducted some electricity between it's hands, attempting the threaten the krabby. Crash
