This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"No, you're not fine," Dan responded, his Krabby letting out grumbles of protest as the two of them headed through the Amberglade. A concerned Sigilyph hovered around them, keeping watch for any other Scourge as the ranger worried over his injured Pokemon. The Krabby had taken quite a beating at the hands of a Spiritomb half an our earlier, having constantly thrown himself in the way of its many attacks. Some time to rest was doing it good, but it was still far from feeling 100%. "We are getting you back to a Pokemon Center as soon as possible. Our fight here is over, okay?"
Ambrose squirmed irritably. He could still fight, damnit! If he could just be put down and allowed to beat around some Scourge, Dan would see that for sure. But instead he was too stupidly concerned to keep doing his own duty.
Oh well. One day he'd learn, surely. Until then, Ambrose would just have to set him on the right path with a strong, guiding claw.
Of course, they probably weren't alone on this path. And who knew if the next person they encountered would be as friendly (for lack of a better word) as Rhea?

CgRoreZE <50 tamara >50 eleanor 50 only togepi shows up
it's rare that eleanor gets time to herself, but when she does she enjoys it. craves it, even, and as she arrives in the amberglade after an excursion in proserpina she finds herself breathing in the sweet, clean spring forest air.
she's loitering around the water, watching curiously at the well, when she hears bickering and what sounds like a pokemon. she turns around to see first the trainer, smile at him, and then her eyes slide downwards.
shiny. vaccinated.
eos.
(don't reach for your styler, no one will attack you here, you're eleanor, not tamara)
"hello there!" she says brightly, giving the duo and the sigiglyph behind them a wave. "it's a nice day out, isn't it?"
Dan sighed a little with relief when he saw there wasn't a fight on his hands. In fact, this was one of the friendliest people he saw yet! He smiled at her, waving back.
"Very!" he responded. "A lot more action than I'm used to, though." He held his Krabby a little bit closer, still slightly worried about his condition. The Scourge could be anywhere, after all . . .
He'd stand his ground anyway if any showed up. As a Ranger, the safety of the Amberglade was his responsibility. That included all of the people in it, even his new acquaintance. Hell, he'd fight on his own if he had to, were Ambrose going to need the protection.

"haha, it's been busy these days, hasn't it, what with spring and all? but i'm told that amberwell is even busier." she continues to peer down at the water, this time crouching down and picking up a stick to stir the well.
she glances back. "i'm eleanor, and it's nice to meet you! what's yours?"
"Busy, but also very dangerous," he admitted. Ambrose squirmed as the mention of danger, eyes darting back and forth as if on the lookout for more Scourge. "You've been keeping safe here, I hope?

"of course! i'm going home at night and staying to the main roads." what eleanor doesn't mention is that home is pax, and the main road is the commonly-used teleport.
"dan's a nice name. so what are you doing here, dan?"
(if tamara files away the name for further research, eleanor doesn't show it.)
He couldn't help but grin a little more at the compliment. That definitely wasn't something he was used to hearing. "Eleanor's a nice one too.
Right now, just trying to get Ambrose some rest. He's . . . had a long day." The Krabby glared up at Dan, opening his mouth in protest but wincing a little in pain. The ranger gave his Pokemon a worried pat on the head.

eleanor shrugs. "i just wanted to see the amberwell, i guess. the papers were making it seem like it's in really bad condition." she isn't lying - the ones at proserpina are heralding the disaster as a second wave of the apocalypse, even though the first one hasn't even ended yet.
(even though the first one hasn't even begun properly)
"Same here, pretty much," he responded. "Times like these, it's good to have as many people keeping an eye on the Amberwell as possible."
Easy? Not at all, as the battered crab in Dan's arms could attest. But important? Definitely. The Amberwell was integral to preventing any further Scourge infections, and was probably more effective than any martial weapon. Dan didn't even want to consider what would happen if EOS lost it.

she stills from where she is. the question isn't asked that much these days, when anyone could be from a scourge-infested area and the fact still a tender, blood-weeping wound. but occasionally, the question is still asked.
her voice is flat and distant when she speaks. "lake pax. you?"
"Yeah, about two years ago," Dan said. "My parents needed the change. Age and stress were starting to get to them, and I figured Kohaku would be a good place to move to." His smile dropped a bit: he had long accepted that they'd be safe in Sol City, but there was still some residual guilt at encouraging them to move here in the first place.
Maybe it was for the best, though. Now he could help keep this region safe. If him and Rhea's efficient mopping up of a Scourge ambush was any indication, he wasn't half bad at it!

"not anymore. kohaku isn't safe - but it's hard getting in or out, now." there is always the risk of scourge stowaways, and the last time eleanor had checked only eos were being allowed out of the region.
but tamara knows it will only be a matter of time before everyone accepts.
"They've been really stressed lately," he admitted. "Age and busyness were taking their toll a bit. Kohaku seemed like it was most on the ball with science, so I figured it'd have the best shot at medicines if they ever needed any. Besides, the Dream World would at least be a place where they could find relief." His usual cheerfulness had been dampened quite a bit, and he was probably the quietest he'd ever been this whole conversation.
