This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Crouching down to meet her Skiddo's eye level, Nemona Taiski attempted a bright smile. In truth, she was rather nervous about having her Pokemon beaten to a pulp by a really strong trainer. Villa accepted her statement with a nod, pawing the ground nervously in anticipation. She had never actually battled before, and hatched out of the egg not too long ago. Fortunately, she was at level fifteen with an arsenal of effective moves, and she awaited her opponent in ease, assuming that she was the one who was going to beat the pulp out of the other Pokemon.
Wait. A steady stream of spectators (ooh, alliteration) was beginning to file into the stands, chattering and laughing. Blinking and gaping, the trainer gazed, stunned, as the stands began to fill up with people. The Dream World was certainly full of surprises, filling imaginary people in imaginary stands to watch a real battle. Beginning to panic, thoughts began rushing through Nema's mind- what if she lost pathetically? Would they all laugh and jeer? She quailed at the thought, pressing the palm of her hand against her forehead in distress. The Skiddo beside her, however, was enjoying the attention, practically posing as the spectators photographed her and her Pokemon.
The energy filling in was infectious, and it wasn't long until the girl's nervousness dissolved into excitement. Even if she did lose (which was likely, due to her newbieness), at least it would all be good fun, right? And maybe she would make friends with her opponent, whether he was imaginary or real. Villa, who was even more jittery than her trainer began shifting and fidgeting, snorting and stomping her hooves on the floor. "Easy, Villa." the girl soothed her Skiddo, glancing nervously towards the unshadowed door. When was this person coming? Crash
The door swung open, Dan and his Krabby making their entrance. The two hadn't fought in the arena before, and as Ranger and partner it wasn't exactly their area of expertise. However, that didn't stop them from eating up the attention as they walked into the arena. Ambrose in particular was having the time of his life, standing tall atop his trainer's head and mugging for the attention of the spectators. Dan was more modest about the attention, but still grinned as he walked to take his place in the battle. The two turned to the audience, raising fist and claw in unison as the crowds went wild.
Surely the fact that they had no idea what they were doing wouldn't get in the way of them having a good time!
Ambrose hopped off of Dan's head, taking his place on the battlefield. His eyes widened a little with shock as he saw the Skiddo: a grass type, of all the rotten luck! However, he still kept his composure, clacking his claws in a bit of pre-fight intimidation.
Dan, meanwhile, turned to the other trainer and smiled gently. "Good luck!" he called out, sweeping aside a bit of hair to get a better look at the battlefield. It was time to get this show on the road!
Finally! Without so much as a creak, the door swung open, and a boy with a Krabby upon his head like some kind of odd hat strode in, absorbing the attention they were given by the roaring, stamping audience. Cheers of "Dan Dan he's our man" gave away her opponent's name, and she waved cautiously at this Dan guy. "Hey! I'm Nemona, Nema for short!" she called out loudly to make herself heard over the cheering of the crowd. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't be one to give her name first, but this wasn't exactly normal circumstances. The hum of energy the spectators were emitting gave her some courage.
All of the sudden, Villa began to sway on her hooves. Catching this woozy movement out of the corner of her eye, the girl turned, concerned, towards her Skiddo. "You okay?" she asked, a little nervously. The Skiddo nodded weakly, then considered for another moment before shaking her head. She didn't seem to be physically harmed, but, after all, she was one of the younger Pokemon on her team. Villa wasn't used to such loud noises and attention, and the situation was probably stressful for her at this age. "How about you battle next time?" she offered, sending the Skiddo back into her Pokeball. Her hand settled around her Marill's Pokeball, and after a moment of hesitation, she withdrew it and tapped the small, white button.
With a flash of red light, a Marill materialized out of her capsule, bouncing excitedly on the ball at the end of her tail. She was a little older than Villa, and she absolutely lived for this kind of attention. Twirling on the end of her tail and hopping onto the ground, Trixie received loud cheers for her efforts. She puffed out her chest and strutted around, much to the crowd's amusement. "First move is yours!" Nema called to Dan, smiling at her Marill's antics.
"Pleasure to meet you!" Dan replied, smile widening a bit. He had planned on introducing himself after the fight when crowds settled down a bit, but it seemed the crowd had beaten him to the punch.
He looked worriedly at the Skiddo as it woozily swayed on its feet, sighing with relief as its trainer called it back. He nodded in approval, glad the poor thing would have a chance to relax.
Ambrose saw the Marril strut and let out an approving grin. He proceeded to counter-strut, standing as tall and proudly on his pronged feet as he could. After a pre-emptive victory swagger around the ring, he turned to the Marill and clacked his claws dramatically.
"Alright then! I hope your Skiddo feels better soon, by the way . . .
Anyway, Ambrose! Keep on your guard but come in swinging!" The crab nodded, smirking at the Marril and Leering right at it. After hopefully catching it off guard he rushed forward, swinging his claw forward for a heavy ViceGrip
Both Nemona and Trixie winced as the Leer caught the Marill off guard and a heavy pincer struck her full on. Luckily, it didn't seem to have any secondary effect. "Trixie, Muddy Water!" Nodding, the Marill shot muddy water out of nowhere with, well... Muddy Water. As the name suggests.

"Stick and weave, Ambrose! Stick and weave!" Dan called out, the crab nodding. He scuttled back and forth, eventually lunging to the side in order to dodge the sudden blast of Muddy Water. He then began scuttling backwards, spraying some Bubbles to try and dissuade the Marril from approaching.
Amused, Trixie watched on as the Bubbles shot towards her. This time expecting the attack, the Marill hopped out of the way. "Try it again, Trixie?" the girl advised cautiously, and the Marill nodded in agreement. Kicking up another spray of Muddy Water, the mouse-like Pokemon watched as it streaked towards the Krabby.

"No time to dodge, Ambrose. Just try to push through!" The Krabby nodded, taking a few steps back before running forward right into the impact. He dug his heels into the ground, taking on the full burden of the attack to avoid losing his positioning. Slowly but surely he stepped forward against the current, battered but not broken, before charging right at Marril once the attack came to a close. He swung his claw down for another powerful ViceGrip, refusing to be stopped.
The Marill had expected the Krabby to be knocked off of his feet, but she was surprised when he pushed through instead. Caught off guard, Trixie was slammed down once again by the Krabby's powerful pincer. With a squeak, she scrambled to her paws again with the aid of her balanced tail. "Keep on going, Trixie! Defense Curl, Rollout!" With a nod, the Marill curled herself into a defensive position in Defense Curl, then rolled towards the Krabby in a Rollout.

ooc: i'm not sure if i can still use defense curl, because attack rules are confusing x.x so if i'm not supposed to, then just assume that trixie only used rollout. sorry, but this is kind of confusing for me... Crash
(OOC: Basically, buffs and debuffs work as described on the combat page. Regular moves, like Howl and Leer, are just for one turn. Stronger ones, like Swords Dance or Metal Sound, last for two. Ex: Defense Curl buffs Defense for one turn, so next turn if you choose you could use two physically defensive moves like Tail Whip and Protect instead of taking an offensive action. If you were using Iron Defense instead, that woul be two turns where you had that option.
As for the types, those can be a little hard to keep in mind, but they're pretty much the old pre-Gen IV type splits with Fairy added on the Special side.)
Ambrose was far too close to avoid the rolling Marril in time. It slammed directly into the Krabby, sending him sliding as he scrambled for balance.
"That attack'll only get stronger from here, Ambrose. Keep your guard up and try to slow it down!"
The crab nodded, keeping its claws up and letting loose another spray of Bubbles. It was in a constant backpedal away from the Marril at this point: getting too close was far too risky.
