This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

verte is here because she needs to get through di manes, and the avernus lake is as good as any to stop by and rest up. crouching by the water, she dips the mouth of her water bottle to start filling it when she hears a noise behind her.
"who's there?" she calls out, even as her other hand goes to the pocket in her jacket where she's stashed her pokeballs. you never know if they'll be hostile or not, after all.
The "sound," of course, was Ambrose lazily hurling pebbles into the nearby lake. This time he hurled entire handfuls, watching how the ripples bounced off of each other and spread through the pond. This sure beat rock skipping any day of the weak!
He ignored Verte, of course, but Dan caught wind of her much sooner. He turned in her direction, holding up his Styler as proof of his friendliness. If it was a member of EOS, they'd be calmed. If it was an Agent, they'd have one hell of a fight on their hands.
"Don't worry, we're just passing through," he assured the trainer. "No trouble here."
she doesn't relax at the sight of a styler, but the shiny krabby dancing just beyond the light cast by the torches hung up on the wall does. she moves her hand away from her pokeballs and nods to the man, who's apparently an eos ranger. "i hope not, otherwise there'll be a problem."
she returns to her water bottle, watching the water gurgle into the container with hardly a whisper of noise. "so, ranger, i'm guessing?" she's simply confirming a fact that she knows, but the end of her sentence lilts up in a question.
"Yep. How about you?" No styler and Pokeballs. She could've been any other EOS, though, or even just an ordinary civilian.
She picked a good spot to rest, at least. While it was one uncomfortable place to stay the night, when it came to safe havens from the scourge Di Manes was one of the best. All the EOS protection of Neiro, with much less crime and seedy individuals.
"eos trainer." realizing her slight, verte pulls out a pokeball from a pocket, showing it to the ranger before pressing the button to release a vaccinated zorua. she shook her fur, glancing around before settling her gaze on the krabby.
"Just resting up here for a bit," Dan replied. "I had to stay the night because I couldn't make it to Niero in time, but I've been taking the time this morning to help keep an eye on Ceres. I think the Amberwell situation is starting to take a turn for the better!
And how about you?"
At realizing he was being watched, Ambrose puffed his chest out as if trying to look bigger and tougher. Ever since Ceres, it seemed he wouldn't quit trying to play the role of tough guy.
Ignored? What, was he not even close to looking like a Kingler yet? He slumped a little in disappointment, turning back to the pond and glumly hurling a few stones into it.
"Procrastination, huh? What kind?" Dan didn't exactly have much time to check out Di Manes yet. Maybe he'd explore it a bit more after his next excursion into Ceres, see what kind of stuff there was to procrastinate with. He knew he wasn't getting to Niero, and later to Bacchus, without some serious time to train first. Might as well enjoy himself while he waited, eh?
"With each passing day, yes. It's not fully back on its feet yet, but I've seen more rangers around there with each day. I think we're slowly but steadily beating those Scourge back." It wasn't a fully done procedure, but with how important the Amberwell was every bit of progress counted. "I don't know how long it'll take to be fully liberated, but here's hoping for sooner rather than later."
"that's good news to hear." and it is. vaccines are made from amberwell water. it'd be a hard blow for eos to take if the well were to stop production. "arceus grant it so."
the prayer does little to ease the grim air she has now, and verte sighs before standing up. she gestures to her zorua, who nimbly jumps up to her shoulder. "i've got to get going, but it was nice meeting you."
then she's gone, out of di manes and into more-familiar nerio.
"Nice meeting you too!" Seemed like he wasn't the only one looking to head to Niero.
Of course, he didn't want to be reneging on his word, either. The Amberwell's safety took priority to napping on a bed instead of rocks. Besides, this time he could always make sure to run over to Juturna Village before nightfall.
As his new acquaintance headed off he went in the opposite direction. There was always so much scouting to do, so little time . . .
