This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"Well, this looks like the place" Josh said, taking a breath. He didn't know how he'd gotten here, or why he was here, but... He didn't know who the people who brought them here were, or what they wanted... But he had a particular set of skills. Skills that would make life a nightmare for people like them. If they let him go home now, that would be the end of it. But if they didn't, he would find them... And he would kill them.
Reading the sign and the instructions... He looked around. Hey, who was going to turn down free training for their Pokemon? Josh gave the cheesiest shrug ever as he walked in, registered the Pokemon he was going to use and.... Wallah! Let's do it!
"Go, Charlie!" he said, releasing the Torchic from it's Pokeball. Walking to a set of dummies, Josh cracked his neck. He motioned toward one of them.
"Charlie, use Ember!" he commanded, and the Torchic happily responded by shooting a couple small flames. The dummy was quickly set ablaze, with a "WOOSH".
"Good! Now uh... Headbutt it?" he suggested.
The Torchic stared at him and blinked. Oh. It didn't know what a Headbutt was. Ok, that would be for later...
Oh Arceus, what else did it know... Okay...
"Alright Charlie, use Scratch!" he said, hoping it would work.
That it did. Charlie let out a "TOR!" before scratching it with it's... Wings? I guess? Maybe it's feet?
We never really arranged that, but regardless, this process went on for an hour or so before both trainer and Pokemon became tired.
"Alright, Charlie, return. Good job" he said, returning it to the Pokeball and walking out.
Ah, another trip to the trainers. After last time, Josh felt a little bit better. His nerves were gone, as were those of Charlie, his Torchic. This time, they were both ready.
With the theme music of the late "Ultimate Warrior" played in earbuds in Josh's ears, he registered them and released Charlie from his Pokeball.
By Arceus, if there were a ring and ropes right now, Josh would shake the ropes with the spirit of the Warrior coursing through his veins. He felt like he could strap on a rocketship, ship in the rocket fuel and speed away like only the Warrior could.
"Alright Charlie, you know the drill" he said as he motioned toward the dummies. "Ember!" he called.
Charlie could almost sense the emotion from his Trainer. After the last session, they had begun to form a bond of understanding. And with that, the Torchic let out a "TOR!" before shooting out a small flame toward the dummy. This time, the dummy exploded into flames on contact... Stronger then before. The hours of training were paying off it seemed, and a grin crossed Josh's face.
"Hit the next one, Charlie!" he called, now pumped out. "TORCHIC!" Charlie let out, shooting another flame that went spiraling toward the next one. It again exploded into flames.... A few hours passed. Josh had worn himself out. No shock there, he could almost sense the exhaustion in Charlie...
"I think it's about time we tested our skills in the real world, my little friend" he said, patting the Torchic on the head. As he picked Charlie up, the exhausted Torchic almost seemed to smile as it fell asleep in his arms.. Josh smiled and cradled him to sleep, before walking out of the facility, the little Pokemon snug in his arms.
He hadn't been here in quite some time. Family emergency. But it did give Charlie a break. For now, he was here to get some training for his faithful Lightning.
The Pichu looked around the facility with interest as Josh came in, holding him in his arms. "Alright, Lightning, if we're going to take on these bad guys, we need to get you all trained up" he said, patting him on the head as he looked around at the facility. The Pichu seemed curious. What was this place? Why was him and his trainer here? Was there food?
Well, no food, but there were certainly training dummies. Josh put the Pichu down and pointed to it. "See that, Lightning?" he asked as he squatted down to the small electric mouse's level. "That dummy? It's a bad guy"
"Pi?" the Pichu seemed to respond, staring at it. It didn't look like a bad guy to Pichu. It was wooden, and it wasn't moving. How could it be bad?
"Hmm..." Josh mused aloud, after a moment of beard scratching he suddenly got an idea.
He took out a black marker and walked over to the training dummy. HE looked behind him suddenly. "LIGHTNING, WHAT'S THAT?!" he cried out, and the Pichu looked behind him in alarm. "Pi! Pi!" it let out, trying to find the target.
While it was distracted, Josh drew angry looking eyebrows and an evil looking mustache on the dummy, and put the marker away. "Lightning, look! Bad guy! Use Thunder Punch!"
"PI! PI!" Lightning shouted in alarm, his little fist sparking on electricity as he charged at the dummy with a sudden vigor.
"Piiiiiiii-CHUUUUUUUUUU!" the little tyke let out as he leaped into the air, punching the dummy in it's evil looking face. It chipped off parts of the wood, and as the Pichu landed on the ground, Josh quickly issued another command.
"Quick, Lightning, use Thunderbolt!" he shouted.
"Piiiiii....CHUUUUUUUUUU!" Lightning let out as a large surge of electricity engulfed the dummy, frying it in a fashion that would prove familiar to the Trainer from his last session with Charlie. The Pichu finally fell back, exhausted from all the excitement and the use of electricity. Josh smiled and picked it up. He patted the exhausted Pichu's head as he snuggled him.
"You did good..." he said. "You did good...." he managed to trail off. Whew, who knew being a Pokemon Trainer could be so exciting?
"Why don't I treat you, Charlie and Cooper to some ice cream?" he asked. The Pichu's ears perked up excitedly. He liked the sound of THAT.
