This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

all of the rangers told her to come here. to this very place. rhea had no earthly idea why-- supposedly she'd find "help" here, but there was no one. or at least, it seemed so. her styler was out and ready, wakashamo and hapinasu were beside her. this place had drawn the short straw when it came to survival. the scourge had throroughly infected every inch of this area.
so she was ready. ready to attack the first thing that dared to move.
@mod for ranger tam, then wild scourge battle
looking for a swablu/altaria, if you have one PM me!
unfortunately for rhea, though, the first thing that dared to move was a florges on recon. it wavered in the breeze, a moonblast ready to fire, before it saw the styler and the vaccinated pokemon.
"ranger, i presume?" she asked, before straightening. hopefully the woman would recognize her as vaccinated, and not use that styler. "what is your purpose here?"
she saw the florges and her styler immediately started waving--it was a reflex. but when she saw the flash of purple leaves, she resisted finalizing a sign. that wasn't florges's normal color, meaning it was clean. and vaccinated, even. which probably meant that it knew a human. rhea lowered her styler.
she nods her head, confirming she is a ranger. the styler in her hand probably made it apparent. "many people told me to come here, to this very spot." she shrugs. "i don't know why. is there something here for me?"
nette (this probably takes place pre-hanging party, meaning rhea doesn't know about agents yet, btw)

"yes. usually people are here to see tam. this is a meeting ground, checked regularly by myself and the other partners." she turns away, slowly, regally. "come. we are sitting farfetch'd out here, in the open."
she leads them to all to the boathouse, where eos has gained its foothold here at pax. wordlessly she gestures to the door. should rhea care to open it, she'd find ranger tam at his desk, his head bent over a letter that he was carefully penning. "he is inside. knock before entering."
tam... she repeats in her head. no one had given her a name. no one had even told her it was a person waiting for her here. rhea hadn't known what to expect. she followed the florges to the boathouse-- just another something she'd heard a lot about. it was a stronghold in a land of weakness.
rhea nodded to the florges. "thank you." she mumbled. she would have knocked, but she entered before florges could even finish it's sentence.
unfortunately for rhea, tam is not in the immediate room, and so she gets a faceful of his styler before he realizes that his florges with her. sighing, he tucks away the tool before running a hand through is hair. "sorry. we had an attack not too long ago and i'm still jumpy."
he sits down at his desk, beckoning the other ranger over. "what're you here for? did sa'di send you? or did you need something?"
rhea rests a hand on his desk, a little shaken up from the previous endeavor-- when she thought about it, it would have been a good idea to knock. yup, rhea definitely regretted not doing that. "i could ask you the same question..." she mutters.
"a lot of people told me to come here, but they didn't really...tell me why." rhea shrugged. "i didn't even know you existed." that was rude. really rude, but rhea didn't know that.
tam pretends not to hear. there are a lot of people who question his worth as a ranger, but that doesn't mean that he confronts each and every one of them. to rhea's other comment, he merely gives her a glance. "unsurprising; pax is pretty far out. although i'dve thought that the other rangers near here would've given you a heads-up."
"but enough about that." he rummages in his drawer for a pen and finishes a letter. "since i'm at the frontlines, i need things delivered regularly. could you get this to ranger hiernymous, at the avernus shrine? it'd be appreciated. you'd be given something, of course, in return, should you choose to accept this." he's folded the letter and slipped it into an envelope by now, and he leaves his hand outstretched with it, leaving it to rhea to decide whether or not she'd accept courier duty for this mysterious prize.
hieronymous? di manes? that was backwards. all the way back to the cave...traveling there and back would be extremely frustrating. and unnecessary-- she wouldn't do it. but wait. she'd be given something? rhea raised her eyebrows, curious. ranger tam certainly seemed to be a logical guy, working out these sorts of deals and all. she looked at him.
"i'll do it." it was more of a mangled, hesitant bark than a pleasant acceptance, but it didn't matter. she snatched the letter and stared at it, fingers brushing against the paper. it was addressed in black ink cursive: hieronymous, carefully scribbled on. she quickly looked back up to tam. "what does it say?"
"reports. results on the various conditions of the pokemon here. statistics. that sort of thing. hiernymous likes being kept in the loop." sa'di did too, but he'd sent out a letter to her not too long ago. "thanks for taking it. here's your reward." incentive, he doesn't say, and merely reaches into a locked desk drawer for the item.
tam is known for having spare styler upgrades on hand, tinkering with it and giving them out to other rangers in the semblance of being support that he's most comfortable with. he hands it to rhea. "a styler, for a third partner pokemon. keep it safe."
she takes the styler more gently than she did the letter, inspecting it carefully. having a third feels... odd. complete. it's the end of the beginning-- the beginning of the end. rhea looks at tam, gratitude in her eyes. "thanks." she breaks the eye contact and slips her pack off of her shoulder, digging into it messily.
eventually she finds what she was looking for, a box of coconut and chocolate tea. she shoves it into his arms. "here. have this." she slips the pack back on and cracks her knuckles, taking a breath. "i don't like coconut."
