This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The sway was surely nauseating, and yet a sudden headache made him forget it quick. Barnaby struggled to open his eyes, but eventually he did. That annoying adjustment to light lasted longer than usual, and he needed to force himself to sit upright, still swaying. He blinked a few times, until his vision was crystal clear. Absolute nothingness. It was just a typical horizon, with water underneath it. Wait…WATER!?!? He panicked for a bit, but his quick motions only made the raft swing. Holding his breath, he took a quick glance in every direction before screaming like a total nut.
“WHERE AM-” Sneeze. Well, that wasn’t the type of sickness he expected. The boy looked down to see a sleeping oddish in his lap. He sighed, wondering if he had awakened the weed. Maybe the shock tapped some reflex or something, but the area was just cloaked in some new aroma. Gulping, he stared out to sea to find any kind of land nearby. It was an absolute wasteland out here, but slowly he stopped being afraid. He looked down to see his buddy still taking a nap. Maybe it was oddish’s little scent, that changed his mood all of sudden, but boy was happy; jovial even.
He resisted the moving waters, trying to balance his way on his feet. With a hand under Priam’s bum, he began deliberating to get a way outta here. Meanwhile, he figured that everything about this place seemed unreal. Even as he kept his balance, he almost felt like he as floating. Prior…could Prior get us out of here? That depressing moment when your pokémon doesn’t know surf when you’re in the middle of the ocean dawned upon him. His thoughts became more jumbled and unrealistic, but so did the area. The clouds above were moving at a strangely quick pace. Even more shocking, the waters around him got a bit fiercer. It was at the point where he needed to surf on this raft to stay dry. What was going on underneath him?
[wrote in about 5 minutes, wanna get a mod thread up somewhere]
Seel was full of fish, his bloated stomach only now settling down to where it usually was, thin and as fit as ever. At least, Seel thought so, to the wandering eye, however, one could call him exceptionally...well fed. Bubbles frothed from his mouth, barking excitedly as he swim in loops underwater, only resurfacing when he needed a gulp or two of oxygen. This was how he spent his day, eating, sleeping, nesting along the dreamy beaches out to sea, and playing with everything mildly amusing be it towards others of of his own expense.
Bubbles were fun, no? His tongue wagged from his maw, eyes dancing to the surface as his back fin spanked the water behind him. It churned him forward until his head broke through the rough glassy surface of the ocean waves. His chest expanded and contracted many times, enjoying the sun on his silky ivory pelt as he glanced around for any more fish to eat; he tended to get hungry in a short period of time, even after consuming a few for breakfast.
What he saw shocked the Seel, but not in a predatory way, but one of elevated curiosity. A boy and an oddish lay curled up on a raft drifting in the middle of the ocean - what was a human doing here? Caution falling victim to the need for entertainment, the Seel swam forward, tipping his body underwater so he wouldn't be seen. his body swam in elegant circles underneath the raft before finally headbutting the bottom of the surface, sending the raft toppling in all sorts of funny directions! What fun!
Exploding from the depths, the Seel gargled with laughter, his flat tail sending a shower of water onto the deck of the raft and himself as he clapped his flippers together with joy.<Seel eeeel, Seel!> As if to say I got you, I got you!.
[style=opacity: 0.8; background-color: #F0F0F0; width: 360px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; color: #333333; padding: 10px; text-align: justify;]How unlucky could he possibly be? Barnaby didn’t want his life’s denouement to be on a raft in the middle of nowhere, whilst panicking like a little girl. He much wished for the natural causes deal in front of a crispy fireplace while drinking bad tea. But the waters around him were heartless to that dream. The ocean’s tumult seemed rather unnatural. Soon, it was just the raft shaking the boy unto his backside. The waters were pretty relaxed, apart from that. A pokémon…? Barnaby assumed, while glancing at his waking oddish. Priam was totally a heavy sleeper, but this may have been the worst time for that. Barnaby sighed in the midst of the earthquake-like tremble, and then shifted to spot the cause of this. Priam found means to scale his trainer’s body and placed himself on the boy’s mop of hair. Barnaby now had to undergo Priam clinging onto his hair with this near-death anxiety. Life was good.
“A tail!” He shouted, just as he noticed one splashing into the ocean. The waters sprayed the entire raft, and Barnaby’s hair was drenched. The oddish smiled and cried happily, not yet realizing the gravity of the situation. Barnaby struggled to pull himself up on the saturated vessel, but it was to no avail. The boy couldn’t tolerate any of this, and he wanted his dreamlike death to be tranquil at least. He paid close attention to the tail, and followed the creature’s body with his eyes into the blue abyss. Now, the boy peeked over the raft and lay on his belly. Priam, the oddish, simply held tight to the boy’s hair. It’s a Seel! A water-type... Barnaby concluded, with an apathetic expression. This was good news though, because he knew that Oddish was part-grass type. Things were about to get interesting…if only he could get a good look at the sea lion.
“There, Priam. Absorb, please!?” Barnaby inquired, while stretching his arm to point at the moving water creature. The shiny weed, apprehensive of the deep blue sea, managed to peer out with his trainer. After a tiny inhale, the pokémon unleashed an energy-sucking beam towards the underwater Seel. Barnaby grinned as his pokémon attacked, but he wasn’t inattentive. He recalled the smells that his oddish gave off before. He wondered if pokémon were compelled by it. Why wouldn’t they be, right? With that, he slipped his hand underneath Priam and shimmied them both back to the middle of the raft. Looking into Priam’s eyes, he smiled endearingly. “Priam, make that sweet scent come out your wicked grass hair again.” The oddish shrugged, and then closed its eyes. In an instant, the smelly aroma filled the air once more. Barnaby coughed, inhaling a bit too much of it, but checked the waters at once. He wanted to see the Seel’s reaction to the smelly stuffs.
The water creature let out an amused huff, slapping the water with his tail as he arffed gleefully in the water. The looks on their faces all wet and drippy in his colorful fur! The Seel was proud of himself for his prank and dipped his head back into the water. He reemerged on the other side of the raft, just in time for the seal to hear the boy declare an attack. What? His brows furrowed in a hurt expression, but after a second or two, he arffed once more. This was a game, the boy was playing along!
He did admit, the energy that hit him did hurt, like his energy was getting sapped from his body...but before the plant thing could release the noxious fumes into the air, the Seel dived underwater, kicking his tail in full speed as he arched underneath the raft. The surface remained near glassy, the waters calm as the Seel paused in his play to wait for an opportune time to strike back. Hmm, if the plant was a grass type and wasn't decieving then he'd use an ice type move to freeze it in its tracks. Swiping his tongue over his wide maw with joy, he powered himself towards the surface.
Seel emerged with a cry, horn glistening on top of his cranium as he fixed both creatures with a happy stare.<Seel seeel!> And a rush of cold air escaped through his parted maw towards the oddish. The icy gale tore through the sea air, freezing anything in its path.
[style=opacity: 0.8; background-color: #F0F0F0; width: 360px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; color: #333333; padding: 10px; text-align: justify;]The flowery perfumes produced by the little weed critter again cloaked the air. The smell rushed away quick, and despite Barnaby’s delight by the oddish’s ability, it didn’t’ affect the Seel. Coughing lightly, the boy scoured the uneven waves for his enemy. Placing Priam on the opposite side of the raft, he struggled up to his feet. He was completely certain that the creature was antagonizing them. No other explanation could be made for the wild mon’s antics! Well, at least to this convinced teenager, there wasn’t. There was a slight mist in the air, probably from the splashing and water sport. Then, in a split second, the Seel cried and unleashed a nasty icy wind! Barnaby turned to see it, but his Oddish had already felt the harsh chills of the move, and he even struggled to keep balance against the cold breeze.
Priam whined as he fought to get back on his two tiny limbs. Frightened by the move, the weed scurried behind his trainer’s legs. The oddish peeked to see the goofy-looking Seel, but couldn’t handle the TERROR. So, Barnaby needed to save the day with some motivational speech! “Priam, don’t panic. How bout’cha do your little teeter dance? Show the Seel your moves!” Barnaby often had to rely on mixed messages to get his littler pokémon to fight. The baby wasn’t a pacifist or anything, but he didn’t really understand the premise of battling. The oddish nodded uncertainly, and started spiraling in the middle of the raft. Quick spins in the frosty breezes resembled a hypnotist’s pendulum. Barnaby’s right hand acted as a shade for diligent eyes. He targeted the Seel with radar eyes and a calculating mind. OHYEAH, BATTLEMODE.
When Oddish finished boogieing, Barnaby pointed a mighty finger of awesome towards the mischievous sea lion. “Now, Priam. Absorb, once more! Right at that Seel.” The oddish gave a gentleman’s curtsy, and then set free another red beam towards the Water-type. [/style]
The Seel tittered excitedly as the cold mist settled upon the raft, as well as chilling the pair to their bones. It was a bit humid wasn't it? He was doing them a favor, or at least this was what the Seel avidly believed. He wasn't battling he was playing with the pair. Humans were such a rare sight to see and he wanted friends, friends to fed him when he passed by and played with him when he was bored. And he was very bored.
He clapped his hands once the gale finished its icy blast, eyes shutting momentarily to thrash his tail in the water behind him. When he peeked through his elated expression, he spotted the tiny oddish. It was queer thing, especially when it started flailing around, its leaves bobbing on his head. Seel tilted his head, not sure if he should enjoy the entertainment quietly or try to dance along. It looked like fun! The blue body hopped and swayed, lifting his legs in a confusing manner. Wait...did he need legs to dance like that, and what of his head? He was as bald as a tentacool. This wouldn't do at all...He tried to follow the oddish's motions, but soon after watching for a minute or two Seel felt his head reel.
All that dancing was making his head hurt! Quickly, the Seel lashed out, trying to mimick the oddish's motions, but instead thrust his head into the raft, making the water creature arf with surprise and soon pain, the headache increasing. Before he knew it, he felt more of his energy leaving his body and the Seel moaned, heaving himself in and out of the water as he thrashed about.
[style=opacity: 0.8; background-color: #F0F0F0; width: 360px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; color: #333333; padding: 10px; text-align: justify;]Nothing was more amusing to the Oddish than seeing his enemy groove to the absent beat like he did. If the small weed had any hands, he’d totally be giving the Seel the applause he deserved. Barnaby’s intentions were a little different, more focused on the grand scheme of things. Whether this sea lion knew what he was doing or not, he was a threat to the boy and his oddish’s survival. Call it some sort of paternal motive, but he cared more about the oddish than himself. Drowning on his own also would’ve been…totally uncool. Hence, he watched proudly as his wild plant confused the poor Seel. When the derpy pokémon began to motion its confused self towards the boat, Barnaby freaked out completely. Was the beast going to ram their slab of wood? End of this. He grabbed with both hands onto the sides of the vessel. When the sea lion foolishly knocked its head, the oddish had used its draining ability. The boat swayed a great bit to the left, and Barnaby could feel his stomach curl. Priam showed a remarkable grace staying put on the boat’s ledge, but his trainer’s noggin was jerked quite a bit.
“Priam…?” Barnaby called out, as he gathered his bearings on the wobbly vessel. Hearing its name, the shiny oddish scrambled up to sit on the boy’s shoulder. All seemed well; no one was thrown overboard, but the creature in the sea didn’t reassure anyone. He was still trashing about like a madman, which was no doubt a side-effect of Priam’s dance moves. Barnaby felt a little sad for the manic pokémon, but wanted nothing less than to be at peace. He decided on putting both them and the sea lion out of misery. His hand scoured his pockets, searching for an empty pokéball. Grabbing hold of an inactive one, he pointed towards the moving beast with his other hand. “Small guy, wanna absorb him once more? There’s a treat in it for you.” He said with a comforting smile. Priam lost the sense of fun in the situation, but used his innate, draining ability a third time. Once the beam shot out, Barnaby primed his throwing hand, and then, fired the decisive sphere.

The music had control! The music kept him up all night long! He had to move, move, move to the groove. You couldn't stop the beat! Seel was shimmyin' and a shakin' his tail off, throwing up a massive spray of water that shone off his pretty white skin like a rainbow. You couldn't stop Seel anymore than you could stop the motion of the ocean or the sun in the sky.
And why would you want to? Seel was having a blast, even if he sometimes thwacked himself in the head with his tail or accidentally bashed against the raft Barnaby was balanced so precariously atop. It wasn't enough to knock the boy off, but it did set the world a rockin'. Barnaby's flailing even looked a bit like dancing to the Seel.
"Yay! Dancing!" Seel laughed. He didn't even notice as his health was sapped away more and more by the Oddish. You could try and hold him down, but if anyone told the Seel to stop dancing by that point, Seel would just spit in their eye and say that you can't stop the beat!
The Pokeball smacked against Seel's much-abused skull and opened wide. The Seel disappeared into the Pokeball's insides, and the Pokeball fell down onto the bottom of the raft. It wiggled from side to side, much like the dancing Seel had in the water. Would this be what stopped the beat?
It was difficult to tell when the sphere stopped moving because the raft swayed from side to side from the motion of the ocean, but eventually the sphere clicked and the red light died from around the red button. Seel was caught!
