This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The sound of screaming--it was music to Starly's ears. Cheerfully, it sent wing attack after wing attack from above the waterfront. Dead wingulls littered the ground all along the docks. She'd picked them all out of the sky in her boredom, but then people had started noticing. She'd attacked anybody that noticed her too, but somehow, she'd ended up on the docks themselves, people and pokemon all about her.
Vaguely, Starly recalled that she was supposed to stay hidden. Well, too bad. That was boring anyway. This was much better.
Physical attacks couldn't strike her from a distance; special attacks were easy to dodge. Starly felt invulnerable as she swept through the sky, hurling attacks far faster than anyone that the water's edge expected. Swooping down in the air, she plucked a azurill out of a girl's hands and flew away with it.
Out of sight of the shore, she settled on a rocky outcropping in the water and pecked the pokemon open. The saltwater lapped at the blood draining into the ocean as Starly made short work out of the baby pokemon's flesh and intestines. The azurill's smooth skin was too chewy for the starly, but the guts and gore were just right for her beak. With a greal deal of enthusiasm, she rammed her beak into the azurill's head, ignoring its squeals as she aimed between its eyes. The azurill stopped wailing soon enough, and Starly slurped up the grey matter with a vengeance.
She hungered still. She hungered always, and now Starly spread her wings again to return to the docks. As soon as she sighted land, Starly whizzed through the air, charging down the first form to saw with a quick attack. When she attacked, she tasted blood and fluid, felt a body split into half and fall apart, and she spat.
Whatever she hit, it didn't taste very good. No, she'd have to find a different meal. Luckily, there were plenty of warm-bodied volunteers all around her.
Screams filled the air, and dead bodies littered the ground as the blonde haired trainer made his way to the source of the disturbance. This is why Solo had been brought to this land was to stop this ever growing threat. Grinning he ignored the death, and destruction around him as he looked around, and saw that the cause of all this was a Starly. However he could see it in the things eyes that it wasn't a normal Starly instead its eyes looked as if they had been dyed with black paint. Its entire body was darker than that of a normal Starly's, and Solo could see the taint rolling off the pokemon's body. Solo had his goal in mind, and he figured that he was going to prove that pathetic Professor wrong sooner than expected. He would capture one, and then make it obey him. Solo wasn't in a good mood, and he knew that he had to protect those people around him which was even a bigger drag. I hate humanity... he thought as he un-clipped all three of his pokeball's from his belt.
Launching them in the air he smiled as he called his three pokemon knowing that they were going to destroy this rabies infested pigeon. "Come on out Winter, Jupiter, Mefitas!" he shouted as the pokeballs opened up, and brilliant white lights flooded from the balls, and took the form of his three pokemon. A Spheal, an Aerodactyl, and a Skorupi. All of them were just as ruthless as that Starly if not more so, and this was going to be a battle of who wanted to kill who more. However Solo wasn't going to let this tainted pokemon have the first move, and he was already forming a strategy in his head. "Jupiter Supersonic, Winter Powder Snow, Mefitas Poison Sting!" he shouted at his pokemon, and watched as they all followed their orders. He was glad that Jupiter was listening to him for the time being, and he was waiting for the Aerodactyl to turn into its usual savage self.
Jupiter flew up into the sky, and immediately started to fire sonic waves at the Starly which if it hit would confuse the pokemon. Winter shot small crystallized shards of snow from its mouth from below at the Starly knowing that her attack had a slight chance to freeze it, and that would allow them to cause some serious damage to their foe. Mefitas's tail spikes started to glow white as it fired off Poison Sting from a different angle at the Starly hoping that if her attack hit it would poison it's foe weakening it further. Solo knew that these pokemon were tough, but if he could wear it down he knew that it would be in his favor. Even if it was slightly in his favor he would take that. His pokemon were tough, and they wouldn't give up easily just like him. "Lets see how you handle that Starly..." he said to himself quietly.
Starly heard the first attack coming--a ringing sound that would've pierced any other person's eardrums, but she flew up and out of earshot. The attack didn't bother her at all, but who sent it? Some plucky little pokemon, no doubt, one that thought she could be taken down by a few sound waves.
Then she felt the cold, and she didn't care. She turned only in time to receive a little prick on her chest. What the fuck was that? She'd been hit harder by running into flies in the air! Flapping her wings against the chill, she searched for her attackers and growled dangerously towards them.
A spheal, an aerodactyl, and a skorupi. The first she recognized, although what it was doing in a human-infested place like this, Starly didn't know. It probably obeyed the beck and call of a trainer. She'll never understand pokemon that willingly offered themselves for kennel fighting and slavery. The aerodactyl was completely foreign to her, but she might've spotted a skorupi from Lake Pax. It looked poisonous. Well, it hadn't been to the bloody ruin of a town by the lake--that place was poison. Next to the toxins there, the skorupi was a joke.
Still, some of these pokemon gleamed and glittered. There was something wrong there; she couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy... and that excited her! She lived for first the battle and second the feasting, and so far today had been a beautiful, glorious day. Starly cawed and twittered her laughter--the sound was dry and cruel like a murkrow or something much more sinister than a little bird like herself.
Starly whipped in, closing the distance between her and the pokemon in a blink of an eye. The strange, rocky bird thing first, her beak aiming to drill into the aerodactyl to its best effect. It looked like a fossil, a painting of an era given life, and she didn't like that. Dead things should stay dead.
The poisonous thing came next. Abandoning her interest in the bird, she whirled to slash her wings, razor sharp now, to slice at the skorupi.

mod note Neither of the status effects worked this time (I used a randomizer to see if it lands in the right percentage), but I suggest you keep trying. The odds aren't so hot for Solo, but freezing and/or poisoning the Starly would help a lot.
His pokemon's attacks seemed to do nothing to the flying type. Even the Ice Type attack which was suppose to be super effective against Flying Types didn't seem to phase the Starly. His eyes wide open he realized just how truly monstrous these scourge pokemon were. However instead of getting frightened he only grinned in utter excitement realizing that he had a strong opponent on his hands. This Starly however would fall just as the rest of his opponents had fallen before him. He would not lose to such a pathetic creature. That was when the scourge pokemon began it's assault. The Starly cawed like a Murkrow, and Solo realized that it had just used Growl on his entire team, and lowered their attack powers which frustrated him. It quickly launched itself at Jupiter, and he had little to no time to react to the attack so he got plowed into full force by the pokemon, and he started to fall out of the sky before righting himself. Shaking his head at how strong that hit was he was angry at the bird now. He could feel his primal bloodlust starting to surface, and it wouldn't be long before he just completely disregarded his trainer in his attempt to kill this thing.
Mefitas had better luck already seeing Jupiter get hit she was prepared, and was able to dodge to the side of the attack causing the Starly to miss. Winter was slightly peeved that the scourge pokemon had not paid her any attention, and she was already ready to begin her next assault. Solo watched as his pokemon waited for his orders, and he grinned at them ready to show this Starly up. "Alright then lets go! Jupiter Scary Face, and then Thunder Fang! Winter Growl, and Water Gun! Mefitas Poison Sting! Lets show this thing who it is messing with." he said to his pokemon, and watched as once again they all obeyed his commands, and he couldn't help, but think that he had a good chance to win if only he could poison, paralyze, or freeze the thing. Watching his pokemon attack he couldn't help, but grin.
Winter roared like a wild sea lion using growl, and then shot forth a powerful stream of water at the Starly. Jupiters face became distorted, and quiet frightening to look at as he attempted to use Scary face on the thing. Then his mouth started glowing with electricity has he dove forward at an amazing speed opening his mouth wide to bite the small bird before him. Solo figured that if he could get the thing wet first then Jupiters Thunder Fang would do that much more damage to the scourge pokemon. Mefitas had a sadistic looking smile on her face as her tail spikes began to glow again, and she shot forth another Poison Sting at the scourge pokemon hoping to poison it. Solo was far from done with this battle, and his pokemon would not give up easily. With Scary Face lowering the things speed, and Growl lowering its attack he would have a slight advantage over it. Or so he hoped.
She watched the Aerodactyl slip out of the sky with a certain satisfaction. The air was her turf here, and she didn't like sharing it, especially not with an old, stony thing. The scourge would have the whole region soon, and it'd be an era for darkness, not for the long gone past like the Aerodactyl.
The Aerodactyl rose with a killing look in its eyes, and Starly approved. Its ferocity gave her pause, partially because it was a visage to behold, but also because she liked a good death glare. It was like appreciating a good painting--but it didn't hold her attention for long. She saw the electric attack coming, and she whizzed out of the way, graceful in the air.
The Spheal's growl might've made other pokemon tremble in fear, but she's heard far worse from Lake Pax. She'd felt worse Water Guns too, and the blow of that one was easily shrugged off. She saw the poison thing attacking again too, and she wasn't concerned. This time, when the poison sting struck her, the pricks still didn't feel like much to her, but something dropped into her veins. She cawed and flapped her wings, twitching under the poison as it took effect--then the moment of pain passed. She felt nothing, but she knew that was only because of the strength of the scourge, and because the poison had already taken hold.
She still wasn't impressed. Still, someday maybe these pokemon would be worthy of the hades virus; they had a scourge-like fighting spirit in them, and with that realization, she crowed her glee. Too much feeding, not enough fighting! Lying low and staying out of sight since she left Lake Pax, that wasn't the way to be! This was you properly fight a war, with talons and teeth.
Starly took advantage of her speed again, her quick attack barreling her towards the Spheal this time, then she spun off back into the air to choose her next target. A moment's consideration later, and she chose the poison thing even as the toxins in her blood stream tingled.
She dove at the Skorupi, focused on the poisonous pokemon now as she'd felt the effect of its sting. Poison was a weak pokemon's tool, she felt. Decima Town used it, resorting to it only because they were pathetic, and she'd hated it ever since. Wings alight, she struck at the Skorupi a second time, merciless and intent on drawing blood or, better yet, poison.

Solo almost breathed a sigh of relief once he saw that the Poison Sting had worked its magic, and finally poisoned the estranged pokemon. Now he had a definite edge against it because status conditions always helped no matter how small it was. With it poisoned its life would slowly drain away over the course of the battle, and now he was definitely going to take advantage of this. However the Starly had launched its assault with renewed vigor despite the poison in its system, and he could tell that he still had a long ways to go with this thing. First it launched a Quick Attack at Winter, and Solo had to quickly get his command out. Winter was by far his biggest asset in this battle with her being his starter, and all she was definitely his strongest next to Jupiter. "Winter dodge it quick!" he shouted as she rolled out of the way of the attack. and he watched as the Starly's attack missed its mark. However now it was rebounding on Mefitas, and it was already too close for her to dodge. The attack slammed into Mefitas knocking her back, but now the pokemon was wide open for Jupiter, and Winter to strike it.
"Jupiter help out Mefitas! Supersonic, and Wing Attack go!" he shouted at the Aerodactyl as it shot off towards the other flying type pokemon. Launching the Supersonic to hopefully distract, and confuse it if it hit, and then slam into it with a powerful Wing Attack. Mefitas was part bug so being hit with a flying type move had caused a lot of damage to it, and not to mention how strong this Starly already was didn't help.. As Jupiter flew in to strike the Starly full force, Winter was ready to go again, and she had a fire in her eyes which was ironic since she was an Ice/Water type pokemon. "Alright Winter! Aqua Ring!" he shouted as he watched his second pokemon obey his orders. Three rings of crystal clear water surrounded the pokemon, and then it disappeared just as quickly as it had came.
"Alright Mefitas Leer, and then use Bite!" he shouted hoping that Jupiter would get there in time to cause more damage to the Starly making it even more weak than before. Mefitas immediately went to work her eyes glowing a deep red color as she used Leer to lower Starly's defenses, and then opening her mouth wide she lunged forward to sink her little fangs into the bird pokemon. Mefitas had taken a lot of damage, and he didn't think it would be able to take another hit like that again. Hopefully this fight would be over with by then. His pokemon had absolutely no fear at all, and he was glad for it. Only the truly fearless would win this battle.
Attacks came at the Starly--she didn't much care. She wasn't stupid, she knew when she took damage, but pain? True pain like when she'd been a common starly, weak and susceptible to the slightest tackle, was something she'd forgotten. It didn't happen anymore. Some scourge pokemon were so drunk on their newfound power that they didn't recognize it when they took hits at all--those were the ones that the Nerio City citizens liked most. They died from their own stupidity.
Starly growled back at the spheal, angry that it splashed her with some water--what was that supposed to be? A poolside joke? At Lake Pax, she'd seen a hydro pump attack used by the magikarps lucky enough to evolve. In comparison, a water gun was... cute. Cute was a good word--like a psyduck that thought it was as cool as a golduck. The aerodactyl's frightening face was less startling the second time around, and she plowed forward despite its attempt to frighten her into stopping in her tracks like a deerling caught in the headlights.
The screeching, high-frequency sound came again, and she immediately wheeled through the air to avoid the brunt of it, but she didn't avoid the aerodactyl's wing attack, which sent her off-balance in time for a skorupi's bite to hit her. Starly raged; such attacks would never have struck her if there weren't three of them mobbing her over like worms on a carcass! Cawing fiercely, she spun out of the pokemon's grasp to make distance for another rush.
The spheal had used a power that seemed to regenerate it--that was no good. She'd be here forever if she allowed it to heal. Wings splayed, she rushed in to give it another quick attack, closing the distance between them in an instant. Wheeling around after that attack, she focused on the Spheal again. This time, she charged at it with a tackle.

(( Apologies for quality. I felt bad that this had been hanging for more than a day now, so I wrote up something quick. Probably won't be able to respond again until Saturday at earliest--will talk to other mods about playing scourge. >.< ))
It didn't take long for the Starly to double up on its efforts to take out one of his pokemon. Winter was already tired from using up so much energy to attack so when the Starly attacked her twice it caught her off guard, and both attacks slammed her backwards into the ground. Shakily getting back up she had taken a lot of damage from that attack, and knew it. However the three rings of water surrounded her, and she glowed slightly giving her back a bit of her energy. Enough to cease the aches that coursed through her body. However if she took more damage like that then this battle was going to be over quickly. Shaking her head she looked at her trainer, and waited for his orders to be given. Jupiter, and Mefitas were waiting as well, and Solo could tell that Jupiter was just about ready to go berserk. The bloodlust was starting to glaze over his eyes. Mefitas having taken damage earlier was already mad at the thing, and wanted her revenge on the thing.
"Alright here goes Winter, Defense Curl, and Powder Snow! Jupiter, Supersonic, and Thunder Fang! Mefitas, Leer, and Bite once more! Show this thing that we are not weak!" however even Solo knew that Winter, and Mefitas were badly damaged. Only Jupiter would remain more than likely at the end of this, and Solo would end this battle with Jupiter's strongest attack. However that was a long ways away. They still had plenty of battle to go, and Solo wasn't going to give up easily, and neither would his pokemon. He watched as each of his pokemon followed his commands down to a T without any hesitation knowing that they could lose more than just a battle in this fight. This scourge pokemon obviously wanted blood, and blood is what Winter, Jupiter, and Mefitas would give it.
Winter curled up, and her entire body glowed with a dull red aura increasing her defenses, and then she got up, and shot frozen shards of snow at her opponent. Jupiter fired the Supersonic once more hoping to cause confusion, and then charged in with a Thunder Fang. Mefitas's eyes glowed a deep red, and then she lunged forward opening her mouth to clamp down on her opponents body with her fangs. Solo was just going to keep hammering away at this things health until it was nothing more. He wouldn't catch this one, but he was gathering valuable information on the scourge pokemon that would help him out in future battles.

That sound again, always that incessant supersonic! Starly shrugged it off, its high pitches falling uselessly upon her ears as she put her focus into ignoring it. The spheal was healing itself--she saw that plainly. Now that wasn't acceptable at all, was it? Starly cawed and soared down towards the spheal again, even as a light volley of snow sent an unpleasant chill down her wings.
Faster than any common Starly, she rushed in for a quick attack on the spheal. The crackling of an electric bite (the work of the prehistoric pokemon, no doubt) only made her angrier, focused her completely on winning this battle. She recognized pain, and it drove her only to throw her all into battle; that was the way of the scourge.
The skorupi's bite struck too, but that one stung far less than the thunder fang. She ignored all the attacks only to throw a second quick attack against the spheal, intent on attacking the ice pokemon until it died.

(( My writing quality's getting worse, I know. >.< Blame my homework!))
The rings of water once again formed around Winter, and healed her enough so that she would hopefully be able to survive this next round. The Starly was still trying to take out Winter, and she was already weak from before, and didn't have the strength to dodge its next two attacks. Being hit in quick succession by two attacks caused Winter to immediately faint. Holding his pokeball up he recalled her to the ball, and stared at it in loathing. "Pathetic...Perhaps you are not the pokemon I thought you would be..." he said before turning his attention back to the battle, and realizing that Mefitas was already growing weaker from the earlier attacks. Taking out her pokeball as well he returned the Skorupi leaving just Jupiter out there with the Scourge pokemon. Solo was going to have let him off his leash if they were to have a chance to defeat this thing. Jupiter was still practically untouched by the Starly, and he had resistances to all of its attacks even though they were supercharged.
"Alright Jupiter...Let your bloodlust take over!" he commanded his pokemon, and he could see the changes take place in his pokemon. Jupiters eyes seemed to glow red with hatred, and his entire stance became more feral as his Trainer finally let him loose. Knowing full well that he would have to return Jupiter to his pokeball before he would be able to calm down Solo did nothing to stop what was about to happen. If you had to destroy a bloodthirsty creature you had to become even more bloodthirsty, and that is what Jupiter would become. Letting out a ferocious roar that would make all, but the toughest shrink away the newly awakened Prehistoric pokemon charged right at the Starly he could now control what he did without fear of repercussions. Opening his maw to reveal his razor sharp teeth. Electricity once again forms in his mouth as he attempts to bite down on his foe, and cause even more damage.
Jupiter wasn't stupid by no means he knew that electric attacks would hurt flying types more, and had the chance to severely cripple them. Allowing this attack to run its course he once again sent the sonic soundwaves at the opponent wanting to cause confusion to make killing this thing even easier. A confused opponent was a dead opponent when in Jupiters court, and he wanted to kill this thing, and chew it up until it was no longer moving.
Attacked with Thunder Fang [dice=10] Flinch failed! [dice=10] Paralysis failed!
Starly saw the trainer recall the bleeding spheal and--and this was rather surprising--the battered skorupi too. Blood and damnation, really, but Starly took it with a shrug. She'd already eaten her fill for now on the azurill earlier, and for all she knew, the spheal would be icy cold and disgusting to eat anyway. Still, she disliked seeing a meal disappear into a pokeball's red light. It was like having candy snatched out of her talons, and the Starly wheeled around in the sky.
Well, there was only one enemy now. This was better, she supposed. Boring too, but she'd tired of fighting these pokemon. The rock bird thing--what was it anyway--came at her, its thundering bite now a familiar attack. Starly didn't want to be hit by again; she knew her weaknesses and she spun out of the way of the thunderfang, being struck instead by a screeching, high frequency supersonic. The sound muddled her thoughts, but that was fine. She could probably focus on killing even in her sleep.
Cawing, Starly rushed in with a quick attack, then lashed out a second with a wing attack.
