This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Rhys was already tired from her day, and she had not even done anything yet! She had managed to go to the laboratory and receive her pokemon, which was her top priority. The pokemon, a female Scyther, fluttered next to her and she often looked at her in admiration. Oh, how she would love to be a Scyther. That would just be amazing! She giggled at the pokemon before they agreed to talk a break, Rhys yawning as they made their way to a small grassy area. It was someone's yard, from what she could tell, but she did not care. Sitting behind some shrubbery, Scyther sat next to her, looking around excitedly for something she could battle before bed.
Rhys nodded to her pokemon and allowed it to move side to side as she looked about. Rhys had a feeling they would be the best of friends already. "Sev, go ahead and move around a bit if you want. Just don't cross the street," She said, worried by the fact that she was now the one giving commands. Ugh that was not what she wanted to do! She stretched out on her back in the ground. "I mean, unless you want to," She added sharply. She did not want to be a hypocrite, after all. Looking over the pokeballs around her belt, she could not believe how many of them were already full. She had gotten an egg this morning, on her way out of the lab. It had quickly hatched into a cute little Meowth which she had already began growing attached to as well.
Short after, she was giving a fossil by an older man and was able to revive it into an Aerodactyl. That one was wild. She knew she was going to have a hard time training it. Sighing she then thought of the next one. A young Absol. It had been wandering down the street and most of the people looked at it in disgust. But how could they not, Absol were said to bring bad luck. Still, she could not resist it and it had quickly agreed to join the team as well. The final new member, a Pikachu, had been sitting at the adoption center. They were about to send him off because he was such a trouble maker no one wanted him. Instantly, Rhys knew she could not let this happen. It was what had happened to her and she would not allow it to happen to a pokemon.
So that was her current team. She looked over at Sev who fluttered about, often returning and resting in the grass before again flying around and coming back. She was yearning for something to battle. It was nearly night fall now, too, and she figured that once it was dark, Rhys would want to get to bed. Which would mean no battles until tomorrow! The Scyther groaned at the idea, landing one final time next to her trainer. She was not so sure what to think of the girl yet, but liked her more than the lab. Plus she did not seem big on dominating and controlling... which was a bonus. Looking around, she leaned against the bushes and Rhys sat up a bit with another yawn. "Nothing?" She asked in a disappointment, only to have the pokemon nod in an almost angry fashion.
Well, if anything, at least they were both full. Rhys and Sahara had both managed to snatch up some food for the others. Not that any of them really needed help finding food... except that damned Pikachu. He seemed more intent on getting caught then actually eating. She rolled her eyes at the fresh memory. The whole group being chased by an angry merchant, dropping their winnings along the way. Well, at least they had still made off with enough to fill their bellies. Except maybe Riptide, but he was the one who got them called. Not that he didn't go pick some fruit anyway. And Seven did not really need help. She just kinda... caught her food. But, she did need to feed herself, Sahara, and Gaby. As mentioned before, the Aerodactyl was a bit of a psycho and she could see him feasting upon some poor trainer or its pokemon. She laughed aloud at the idea, only to receive a strange look from her Scyther before the pair started scanning the area for something to fight.
There was nothing more that this Wingull enjoyed than sunbathing. And today was a rather sunny day, so that put her in a much better mood than yesterday. Her nest had been smacked out of a tree by a Scourge Pokémon and she'd fled the area before the Pokémon could attack. It had been a Scourge Pidgey, twice the size of her. The seagull Pokémon shuddered slightly at the memory of narrowly escaping an unfortunate end. But today was a new day, and she'd managed to rebuild her nest in the tree. This time, her nest would not be destroyed so easily. The Wingull would fight to defend her home instead of running away.
So when a female trainer wandered near the tree, she peered over the edge of her nest. The Wingull frowned slightly before preening her wings nervously. Was this trainer looking to steal her nest? Humans had always regarded her as a mere pest as opposed to actively seeking her, so she figured that she'd be safe. But after yesterday's events, the Wingull was jumpy and quick to defend her nest. She sent out an experimental Water Gun by Rhys' feet, then waited for the girl's reaction. She ducked into the safety of her nest, peering over the edge of the woven branches. It was built like a shoddy basket missing its handle, decorated with miscellaneous bits of colored ribbon.
The Wingull spied a large mantis Pokémon at the girl's side. The Pokémon's scythes looked sharp and fierce. She did not want to fall prey to those arms. The Wingull clacked her beak audibly as she realized that she had initiated a battle with the Scyther. But, perhaps, if the girl figured that the Wingull was not worth her time, the pair would move on and Wingull would be safe. She hoped that this would be the case and if not, the Wingull's eyes narrowed fiercely in preparation to fight.
Rhys moved her feet and leapt up quickly as a splash of water fell to them. "What the shit?" She immediately blurted out, glaring up quickly. She half expected to see another human who had done it, but she did not spot anyone. Instead, there was a bit of rustling in a tree off to her side, to which she tilted her head. What was up there and why had it shot water toward her? She scowled and looked over toward Seven, who had immediately perked up. Especially since this now was possibly a fight. She immediately ran her scythes against one another to produce one of the more menacing noises she could make.
"Check it out?" She said in a harsh voice, but was careful to keep the more questioning tone. She still did not want to appear to be a dictator over her pokemon. No, instead they were friends, and that was how she would treat them. She would never be like her parents. Oh, how she despised those fools more often than not. She moved her dirty, grungy hair from her face, trying hard not to notice the faded color, and pulled her hat down a bit to help shade her eyes. Not that she really needed it too. It was nearly bed time anyway, so in no time what little natural light there was left would be gone (aside from anything the moon produced).
She took a few steps toward the tree before watching Sev leap into the air. The eagerness of that pokemon to battle was always a bit more frightening than anything else, but she did the best she could to ignore it. She knew that this was a trait of Sev befores she had taken her from the lab. Besides, other than that the pokemon was perfectly normal and she loved her already! Her dark eyes scanned carefully and she listened with a smile to the hum of the bug pokemon's wings. Normally, she hated that sound, but to her it seemed as if Seven's wings were a bit more melodic than a normal bug. Perhaps it was because this one was her bug. They must all have a sort of rythem to them, right? She had just never cared to listen until she had her own.
Still, her eyes hardened once more as the pokemon landed on the branch. It shook from her weight and the bug looked dangerously about, immediately spotting a den before resting her eyes on the Wingull that it belonged to. {Scyther!} She called out, looking back down at Jackie momentarily. She figured the girl what not understand what she had said, although it was nothing too interesting. Basically just announcing that it was a pathetic Wingull. She looked the thing over and wondered why it had bothered to shoot water at Jackie in the first place. It obviously was a weakling. Not even scary! Normally, she would not present herself this way, but right now, her desire to battle was taking over her.
On a daily basis, she had an easy time getting along with other pokemon. But then again, pokemon usually didn't shoot attacks at her trainer. Her head lowered and she raised her arms a bit, obtaining the best gripping her feet could manage on the branch that appeared a little too small for her. Her wings continued to beat, just in case it snapped and they had to hold her up, but it was with little effort, since right now they were not really doing any lifting or moving. {Scyth,} She challeneged in a low tone, letting this pokemon know that they were now going to battle, whether it liked it or not. "A Wingull, eh?" Rhys finally pipped up, now making out a bit of the bird pokemon. "Probably useless to my team..." She mumbled. She was not a harsh trainer, but she did not want to take in any pokemon that she did not really want. Since she obviously would not use it. So she figured it was best to just let them live free. Still, that did not mean it would not give Seven a good battle, right? And was that not what it looked like the Scyther was preparing to do? Battle?
She nodded to herself and grinned. "Alright Sev, we going to fight it?" She asked, only to have the pokemon nod without looking down at her. "Focus Energy then use Bug Buzz," She commanded, her voice still soft and filled with admiration for her bug pokemon, who nodded and momentarily glowed a red color as she prepared to attack. Rhys had not yet seen the pokemon's attacks other than Quick Attack, so she was excited to see what Bug Buzz and Vacuum Wave would look like. In a second, Seven was speedily attacking, first making an awful noise (that even made Rhys clasp her ears) then firing a red beam toward the poor Wingull.
Oh my. Now that Sev had flown up to the treetops, the Wingull saw that the Scyther was slightly bigger and appeared to be stronger than she'd initially expected. Perhaps she'd acted rashly by squirting water to repel the trainer and her Pokémon. She was sorely regretting the decision, but the Wingull knew very well that she would simply have to live with the consequences. The battle had already been initiated when she'd shot a Water Gun at the pair. Now she'd just have to fight back with the little might that she had.
The Pokémon growled at the Scyther, trying to scare it off. Lowering the Pokémon's attack in general would have been a good idea. But before she could make a legitimate strike at Sev, the Pokémon's noise was more irritating than damaging to her. Still, she felt the effects of the horrendous noise. Bug type moves were no good against her. Perhaps the type advantage would be enough for her to hold the giant mantis Pokémon off. She Wingull eyed the Pokémon's menacing scythes. Getting run through with one of them probably wouldn't feel so good.
The Wingull shook her head to rid her ears from the irritating buzzing noise, and once she did, it dawned upon her that if they fought in the treetops, her nest would be ruined. Defending it would be all in naught and all in vain. "Wing, wingull!" she screeched at the Scyther, momentarily leaving her nest. She'd decided that the female trainer below nor the Scyther were interested in her nest and instead, planned on battling her. So be it. She soared some way away from the basket of branches and instead, overhead Rhys. When she felt at a safe distance, the Pokémon proceeded to blast her opponent with a strong jet of water.
Sev almost laughed as the Wingull growled at her. In fact, her attack was lowered due to her humor at the situation and the fact that she felt she almost felt sorry for the poor thing. Perhaps it was too cute to beat the tar out of? No, she shook her head as the smirk disappeared from her face. She would have to kill it anyway. Well, probably not kill it, but teach it a lesson, definitely. She shook her wings out a bit before slapping them together in a melodic hum. They stopped again as she realized that the bug attack had not done much damage to the pokemon, looking down at Rhys in distress.
The trainer, also realizing this, tried to quickly decide which move to attack with next. She tried to remember how types worked, but she had never gotten that down well at school. "Shit!" She thought, clenching her hand into a fist before realizing that the Wingull was now in the air above her. She took a side step to look around and take in the new battle field. Fighting in the sky would at least make things more interesting, right? She nodded to herself before deciding what she would do next and how she would approach this battle. However, before she could make her decision, Seven was being attacked by the Wingull! She watched the water soar through the air and hit her pokemon sqaure in the chest!
{Scy} She cried before taking things into her own hands... er scythes. Taking off into the air after the Wingull, not having paid attention to its distressed call, she used the best Leer she could. If her attack was now lower, she would be lowering the Wingull's defense in response. Straighting out her body again, she seemed to almost disappear out of sheer speed. Instead of going for a direct hit, she quickly moved sideways and turned, now aiming more for the bird's wing and side. Her Quick Attack was not yet the best, but it was fast enough that it should be able to momentarily confuse such a weak Wingull, right? Rhys smiled at her pokemon and was pleased that she did not always have to tell it how to respond or fight. It was nice. Especially since she felt like she controlled her enough.
She could feel her heart pounding in excitement for her first battle. Her expression was constantly changing as she watched the air above her, and to someone just passing by, she might look like a bit of a moron out there. Especially when she began moving around, trying to find the best angles for her dark brown eyes to focus on and watch the battle. She always felt bad when she decided to do something to a wild pokemon, especially now that she was able to catch them, but did not want this one. She almost felt as if it was her duty to just leave it alone and find something else to battle, but she still could not do that to Sev. Besides, the pokemon had initiated the battle. And from what it appeared, only wanted her tree anyway. That seemed to be why she moved the battle to the air, anyway.

Wingull knew she was very much in over her head. The Scyther was much larger than her, and didn’t seem phased by either of Wingull’s two attacks. But still, Wingull had to try. She had come out of her shell one time, and tried to have a little fun with a human to make sure the human didn’t destroy Wingull’s carefully-crafted nest, only to have her hopes dashed and her momentary courage thrown back in her face. Well, Wingull couldn’t take this lying down. No matter how outmatched she was, Wingull owed it to the remains of her nest to at least try and put up as best of a defense as possible.
The Scyther was fast, so swift that Wingull couldn’t even try and keep up. Wingull fell from the tree, forced out by Scyther’s Quick Attack, and had to right herself quickly before she crashed into the ground. She flapped her wings hard. She was a swift little Wingull herself, even if she couldn’t come close to the Scyther, she could still maneuver through the trees much easier than the larger bug.
Wingull darted through the trees and shot off the strongest Water Gun she could. The stream of water arced through the tree branches, and Wingull took refuge where the branches were the thickest. Scyther would have to get through the tree before she could get at Wingull again. Wingull growled from her refuge. She remembered the lessons her friends had given her about fighting. The best way to handle an enemy stronger than her was to lower the opponent’s attack. Then they would hit less hard and it would lessen the difference in strength between the Pokemon. Wingull hoped it helped.
