This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Adian had been training his three pokemon for quite some time now. By "quite some time" it really meant just four days out in the surrounding areas of Prosepina City. He had set up a small camp just outside the city rather than coming in. Granted, it was his home town, but Adian had just left his home for the first time. The last thing he wanted to do was come back after less than a week. Especially since his mother had helped him pack everything he would need to live outside for the rest of his life. Not that Adian had wanted her too, mind you, she had firmly insisted.
That morning, Adian had woken up in his tent to find all three of his pokemon snoozing together. He was more than happy to see that they were getting along. He had worried in the beginning that he would have them fighting each other. Although their personalities were so different, he wasn't sure it would happen, but he never knew. It wasn't as if he was around pokemon a lot. These three were the closest interaction he had with the little monsters in his entire life and Adian was already wondering how he could have grown up without pokemon in his life. Blame modern day city life, Adian figured.
As Adian poked his head outside his tent, he saw it was another lovely day. Of course, the weather was starting to cool down, but the sky was blue and there was only a wisp of a cloud here or there. He would need a jacket today, and possibly some mittens if he wanted to do some more training. Adian looked back inside his tent and watched his three sleeping pokemon. Perhaps, he wouldn't train today, maybe a nice picnic to surprise his new pokemon. All work and no play made Adian a dull boy, oh yes it did.
It was still a bit early for an actual picnic, so Adian decided he would get himself set up. He had made himself a small fire ring out of rocks he had found laying around. Inside the ring were charred logs from dinner the night before. Adian figured his pokemon would be fine alone in the tent as he set out for some more fire wood.
It took him almost two hours to finally bring enough for a decent sized fire. By the time Adian had made it back to his camp, Oshawott was already stirring. As the only female in the group, she had put it upon herself to make sure everything stayed nice and tidy. Something Adian was grateful for, considering he wasn't very tidy to begin with. "Come outside Oshawott and help me?" Adian asked as he sat beside the fire ring, carefully trying to nurse a small flame under the sticks and kindling he had set up.
Oshawott of course, did as she was told. She frowned at the sight of the fire. Of course she would, fire and water pokemon didn't particularly go well together. "C'mere girl, it won't bite. I just need some help. Grab me another small stick from the pile, will you?"
Another hour had passed, and the sun was close to reaching the peak of the sky. It helped to burn off some of the chill in the air. The fire was large and Adian had already begun to start grilling food for himself and his pokemon. Axew had woken up as the sound of crackling and spitting logs filled the air. Shinx however, hadn't even bothered to move a muscle until the sweet scent of cooking food wafting into the tent.
Adian had laid out an old blanket by the fire, careful to keep it far enough away should any sparks fly. His three pokemon were already chewing on the hot dogs and s'more Adian had made. "Hey guys, wouldn't it be fun if other trainers joined us?" Adian asked his three pokemon, "If you happen to see any, let me know, I'll wave them down and we can have a picnic."
OOC: Open to everyone. Since it's winter now, I think a nice warm fire would be great to help Adian get introduce to everyone, yeah? So throw your lovelies in. :3
Winter was upon them now, and with the delcining temperature Victoria had to keep on moving, keep her blood pressure up. She was on foot, one of the most unlucky modes of transportation out there. And why, because her bike was at the shop molding on snow treds for her tires so she could ride in the ice and snow. Winter was one of her least favorite seasons because of this sole fact, and paired with her empty stomach (she had only eaten a very light breakfast consisting only of a bacon sandwich) she was in a horrid mood.
her passive front wasn't very convincing, every so often sighing heavily as she shook her head, brows furrowing. The Axew at her side occassionally galnced up to see what Vic was doing, stopping in the middle of the path, but as she contiued to do this, she came to ignore her, knowing she wasn;t in any real danger. Her trainer could get annoyed, anyone could. She snorted lightly, the chilly air sending a whisp of breath from her maw as she breathed. Besides the smell of winter, the oddly colored axew could place many others; the scent of decaying foliage as they hiberated and died for the coming winter, the scent of the road beneath her, cold, and the aroma of the...food?
She lifted her snout, nostrisl twitching eagerly at the promise of something to eat. Of course, unknown to Vic, Quinn had found some berries a couple hours ago and gourged herself while her back was turned, but more food was always a plus, and if she could nab a quick meal, then why not? She rushed forward, causing Vic to frown down at her fleeing pokemon. "And where do you think you're going?" She accused, but her voice wasn't angry, more tired at having to quicken her pace. Quinn didn't always listen - she was a free spirit, after all. Just like her.
What she saw both surprised, annoyed, and pleased her all at once, her face twisting into one of perked neutrality at the smell of hotdogs over an open fire. Quinn quickly approached the trio of pokemon and their trainer, pipping a barking <Axe!> of a greeting. Her bright eyes scanned the pokemon in her company; the oshawott and shinx didn't interest her nearly as much as the other male axew. And this one was green. Vic slowly approached the tent and the fire, glancing down at him from her standing position.
"Sup."
Quinn wagged her tail, nosing towards the other axew curiously. She wanted to play - and eat - and push the male around. She even went as far as thrusting herself onto the boy's lap, claws gripping his pants as she tried to get closer towards the dragon type.
Sinclair, and Mikael were supposed to have left for Ceres Forest already. However, all three of them had concluded it would be smartest to stock up on supplies before going through the area, just in case. If anything ever happened, Mikael was positive that visiting the Amberwell would be more than enough to cure any wounds. Still, he was a cautious person and he would always much rather be safe than sorry, given a chance. All three of them were poised to leave for the forest come tomorrow. Mikael had been out picking up some last minute supplies, mostly just extra water and some food. It should only take a maximum of two days walking through the forest to reach the other side, but he'd rather be overstocked than under. His team had expanded to a full six, meaning they needed plenty of food to keep them all sustained.
Now that it was winter, Mikael's Pokémon like Regina and Ignis preferred to stay inside their Pokéballs. The Larvitar was used to harsh deserts, not bitter winters, and Ignis was both a fire and a bug type so he was not too fond of the weather. Aqua had sensitive skin as a mud fish Pokémon so he preferred the warmth as opposed to the cold. Perhaps once he fully evolved into a Swampert, he'd be more resistant to the cold. Maria enjoyed rolling around in the snow, but she'd worn herself out with all the playing she'd done and was now fast asleep within her Pokéball. That left Laelia and Julius. Laelia's thick fur kept her warm from the frost and Julius' fur helped as well, but he was a hardy Pokémon that didn't seem to mind weather conditions.
Unlike his Pokémon, Mikael was not immune to the cold and ended up zipping his jacket up. He slipped his hands into his pockets as he walked. Laelia sensed that he was cold and ended up leaping onto his back before scrambling onto his shoulder. She let out a satisfied "Eeee~" before proceeding to nuzzle Mikael's cheek. She pressed her warm fur against his neck, fluffy tail draping over his shoulders and around his neck as a scarf. Mikael slipped a hand out of his pocket and reached up to rub at the Pokémon's head. Laelia made a high-pitched squeaking noise in her throat as she rubbed her furred cheek against Mikael's.
Suddenly, Julius stopped in his tracks and sniffed at the air. "Do you smell that, Mikael?" the Lucario asked. Mikael stopped as well, puzzled. Now that the Lucario mentioned it, he did smell the faint aroma of cooking food. Cooked food was a luxury for Mikael. It was dangerous to light a fire in Nerio City since it alerted people of one's location. It was always safer to stay hidden, but a fire often suggested that meat was being served and meat was expensive to come by and went bad relatively quickly. Mikael had always settled for foraging berries when he could or swiping bread under people's noses. The occasional burger was always a plus. He felt Laelia stir on his shoulder and tilt her nose up at the air. A satisfied "Eeeevuii!" came from her before she sniffed again, taking in the scent of the food. Mikael liked to save the money he had on hand, but figured one hotdog wasn't going to do much damage.
Julius took the lead now, following his nose. However, his normally flopped pseudo-ears were stretched out. Mikael had learned that Julius used them to sense aura, which was useful for tracking both Pokémon and people, along with using it to communicate with humans. Mikael knew that he'd be able to trust the Lucario's tracking abilities, and he could see from the corner of his eye that Laelia's nose was working harder the more they walked, and now he too could smell the aroma of cooked food. Arceus, that smelled good.
Seated by a bonfire was a redhaired teen male there sure were a lot of redheads around and a blond woman that appeared to be at least a year older than him. He thought he vaguely recognized her but pushed that thought aside. There were plenty of masculine, blond girls out there in the world, especially where he'd come from. The weak and vulnerable girls were all made done with in no time. Out of habit, Mikael clasped his hands together for a moment to check for if his box cutter was still strapped to his wrist. It was secure there and he relaxed visibly. Laelia sensed her trainer's tenseness and licked at his cheek, wondering what was wrong. Julius merely glanced at Mikael. He could sense his trainer's movements and didn't need to even see to know what was going on.
As per usual, Mikael was hesitant to approach new people. Still, the fire looked awfully inviting and there was already one person with the redhead teen. He got the feeling they were not familiar with one another, but there was still the chance that they'd met previously. But damn that food smelled good. Standing around would look strange so Mikael knew he had to make up his decision sooner or later. Laelia made that decision for him. The Eevee leaped off his shoulder and bounced over to the warm fire. She called Mikael and Julius over with another "Vuiii!" before settling down by the warm flames. Too late to pass by now. Mikael glanced at Julius, who was waiting for a command. When the trainer moved forward, so did the Pokémon.
Mikael followed after Laelia, his shoes crunching in the snow as he went over to the old blanket that the Eevee had curled up on. He crouched down beside her. "It's rude to interrupt on other people's gatherings," he said to her, only slight disapproval showing through in his tone. The Eevee frowned at him, unconvinced since she knew that Mikael himself was having trouble with making up his mind so she'd made the decision for him. Well, too late now. He glanced at Adian, who was busy cooking hotdogs and marshmallows. He recognized the soft, white treats. Maria was very fond of them and he'd swiped some once in awhile for her. "Hope I'm not intruding," he said to Adian and Vic, still not sitting down. Not until he was invited. Julius had made his way over to Laelia and was crouching by the fire.
