This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Of course, thanks to the Sweet Kiss, Mel was feeling a little wobbly. He hummed in place, trying to make sense of the haze that surrounded him. What was happening? What was that pink blob charging at him? Why was Mordecai waving? Something cold connected with his side, sending him reeling onto the ground. the Beedrill twitched, then went limp, wings buzzing weakly. Mordecai stepped forward beside the Beedrill and asked, "How are you holding up?" The Pokémon only gave him a quizzical expression as he returned the wasp Pokémon to his Pokéball.
With a grin, Mordecai offered his hand out to Brazil. "Tell me, where did you find such a hardy Smoochum?" She was a little Pokémon that was tough as nails, traits desired by many trainers. Mordecai was no trainer or researcher, but studying how other Pokémon fought in battle helped him to understand how the Pokémon functioned.
LVL 12 Smoochum has gained 2 levels! Beedrill has gained 1 level!
"Where'd I get Lenor? This Assistant lady person gave it to me. She's awesome, right?" Brazil replied plainly, having made a little more than a fool of himself after punching the air and hollering when he saw the Beedrill faint. He'd won a pokemon battle! AND there were two new entries to his pokedex, so things were definitely playing out well for the orange haired pokemon researcher.
"Besides, your Beedrill was pretty awesome too, yunno. I guess I got kinda lucky, huh?" Shrugged Brazil as the Smoochum the conversation had been about ran into his arms. He now clutched the kiss pokemon, a little tightly, and walked over to his defeated opponent. It was a little untoward to be shouting a conversation across the docks, after all! Lenor planted kisses on whatever part of Brazil her lips could reach, almost as if it were therapy. Still, he knew he'd have to let her recuperate soon - she was pretty exhausted from that battle- no, that triumph.
He was smiling by the time he reached the other guy.
"What was your name again?" He said. "Sorry, I totally spaced!"
Mordecai raised a brow at Brazil. "Assistant Lady Person, hm," he muttered to himself, but decided not to think anything of it. "Ah, battling is the only one of the ways that I can use to test how much my Pokémon have grown," the breeder explained. "So I'd like to thank you for your help as well."
The man shook his head, as if to reassure Brazil that there was nothing to apologize for. "It's Mordecai," he said. "And if I remember correctly, you said your name was Brazil? If I may ask, what are you doing out here at the docks?"
Mordecai, huh? Cool name. Wasn't as cool as Brazil, of course, but really was there any name out there that could match his? The researcher smiled, a little full of himself.
"Oh, yunno, why does anyone go to the docks? Catch some sun, enjoy the scenery... I'm a pokemon researcher too, so I was hoping to see some awesome pokemon, and I guess thanks to you I did!" Brazil blushed, realising that he had indeed gotten sidetracked with the battle. Still, it was a means to an end, and at the end of the day all that really mattered was garnering enough pokedex entries as to make a tangible difference to the anti-scourge effort. Despite his relaxed demeanour, and the way the orange haired researcher preferred to perceive things, there was a dark cloud of seriousness hanging over all their heads; Kohaku was in trouble, at the end of the day...
But maybe a battle once in a while was healthy. Relieving stress was always a good thing, right?
"I guess with the scourge and all I should use my time more effectively... but at least I'm not the only one out there trying to help!"
The breeder nodded. Of course, Magnolia Docks was an ideal place for anyone to get some fresh air. He'd heard, once, that breathing sea air was healthy. It was probably because the docks were mostly removed from Proserpina, placed on the edges of the city. "The docks provide a nice view, especially during this time of the day," he mused thoughtfully. As long as he wasn't in the water, Mordecai also found it pleasant.
"It's healthy to enjoy oneself as well," Mordecai commented. "Not that anyone should loosen up their slack, but a little living never hurt anyone." He paused. "On the other hand, you mentioned you were a researcher? I have a few more Pokémon on me if you'd like to study them as well. After all, everyone of Eos is equally responsible for rooting out the Hades Virus. If examining Pokémon will help you get closer to unlocking a new vaccine, then I'd be happy to comply."
His Pokémon could do for a little more stretching and breathing space anyways.
"Woah for real?! That's so great thanks man!" Like a kid in a candy store Brazil leaped at the opportunity to bolster his pokedex! So he agreed, and waited for Mordecai to show him the goods.
Mordecai fished about in his pack. "Yes, this should be everyone," he said to no one in particular. The capsules rattled, and out came a Skarmory, Druddigon, Eevee, and Solosis. They flocked around the single breeder, all abuzz asking what had happened. The man rubbed the restless Druddigon's head, and the Skarmory pushed her beak against Mordecai's other hand. The Eevee crawled onto her trainer's shoulder, and the Solosis was the only one who was curious enough to approach Brazil.
<Greetings, human!> the Pokémon called out telepathically. <What have you done that Mordecai felt obliged to summon all of us?>
Mordecai wandered over to the psychic Pokémon and lifted her into his hands. "Ah, sorry about that," he said to Brazil. "Anima needs to know absolutely everything that happens around her."
'Haha, I'm actually kind of getting used to all the telepathy now...' He commented. The increasing time he spent with Janus, his Kadabra had made the shock of the supernatural form of communication a little less potent. Still, had he got the hang of talking back? It was meant to just be thinking, after all...
'I'm Brazil and I'm a pokemon researcher and I'm looking basically to uh research pokemon...' It was uh, a little different talking to someone else's pokemon, apparently. He'd need to be a bit more fluent. Brazil let Janus out of his pokeball - a middle man, or more accurately, pokemon, would be required.
'Tell that... that solosis what I do please Janus' Thought Brazil. The Kadabra complied happily, glad that it got to converse with other pokemon of its type for once.
Brazil proceeded to scan the pokemon Mordecai got out to display.
"Thanks man... I dunno what I can do for you but uh, if you need anything from me just say the word you know? This is kind of a huge favour for me haha!"
The Solosis, from the confines of her protective membrane, offered sagely nods to Brazil and the Kadabra. Her eyes seemed to glow with curiosity and admiration for the more-experienced psychic-type Pokémon. <I see, I see,> she said, as if she, herself, were a Pokémon researcher. <How impressive! I hope you can find a vaccine!> she exclaimed, floating up and down in place, as if she were leaping about in slow motion.
"Of course," Mordecai replied to Brazil. "I don't mind helping out though. Squashing the Scourge helps me as much as it does you." He said this statement with an unusually positive disposition. It was a good thing, though one unfamiliar to the Kohaku region would have thought that he was being a little extreme. He glanced towards the horizon, and noticed for the first time that the sun was beginning to sink behind the water. "Mm, I suppose it's about time for me to return to the Center. I learned a lot from battling with you today though. Perhaps we could meet again sometime."
(might be about time to start winding the thread down?)
