Every night, Neo dreamed of the battle arena. Every night, Icarus joined her in her dreams. She wondered if this was a sign of psychosis.

The arena lights were dramatic, the field a volcanic disaster zone, the imaginary audience screaming their support (okay that part was clearly Icarus' dreams), and Neo sighed.

Icarus flopped about on the volcanic field as a magma pit in the center spat out fumes of smoke. This time, he would be victorious!

it was hot. grayson vaguely wondered why he was fighting a floppity fish, but shrugged nonetheless. "well, here we go." a flash of red, and there was fluke, the spheal. it gave a little squeal, rolling out onto the field and flailing about when it couldn't stop.

she bumped into the magikarp and managed to finally come to a stop. ah, friction, thy best friend. "er, powder snow."

there was something called honour to a battle that really didn't apply here.

Neo was completely besotted by a series of calculations she had been working on until her Dexy Sense started tingling. Sitting upright in attention, she had her pokedex ready in hand, and it was leveled directly at the spheal.

The magikarp flopped in the snow, which melted soon after landing. The sudden change of temperatures made Icarus sneeze.

"Icarus! Splash!" she commanded.

fluke stared blankly as the water rolled her back to grayson's feet. "right. let's try this again." before he could gently nudge fluke back, the sassy snubbull he'd recently obtained shot out of the pokeball, and charged straight forward with her jaws open, teeth sparking in a thunder fang.

"that works. i guess."

Pokedex still ready for action, Neo dispassionately took down another entry.

The thunder fang connected, and the jolt of electricity sent the magikarp into seizure, which meant it flopped really fast.

Then Icarus laid motionless on the volcanic field. Neo recalled him into the comfort of its pokeball.

"Good fight," Neo congratulated, not entirely honestly but 100% politely.

fluke looked sad at not getting to finish her battle. ris, on the other hand, was practically posing. grayson returned both of them with a shake of his head, and nana's tail flopping in time.

"hm." he murmured, feeling no need for anything else. he walked off without another word.
