This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The little Blitzle at Mordecai's side gave a leap. Her dark fur sparked with electricity in anticipation for the match. She pawed eagerly at the floor of the arena, and the breeder gave the little Pokémon a rub on the top of her head. "That's the spirit." She was young, but very eager to please. In the background, Molly looked on with genuine interest.
the battle arena was foreign to J. he glanced around himself, immediately recognizing the dreamlike quality to be that of the dream world. "again?" he muttered, entering the coliseum before his aron and ralts flanked him. strange, he mused, taking another step into the arena.
it was quickly apparent who his opponent was -- the person standing before him, accompanied by an eevee and blitzle. (what was it with blitzle recently, he thought, having immediately thought of neo's hyperion.)
The first thing that Mordecai noticed were the two Pokémon behind his opponent.
The second thing that he noticed that this person greatly resembled Isaac Delacroix. But this could not have been Isaac, because Isaac was still a boy, still sixteen years old, and still in Nerio City. This was not Isaac Delacroix.
Mordecai feared that if he stopped to think about it, the thoughts would consume him. "Electra, you're in first. I want a Thunder Wave followed by a Quick Attack."
J immediately recognized the type of pokémon mordecai chose to use, and he grumbled inwardly. blitzle was a horrible, horrible opponent to fight, but he kept his face clean of expression as he gestured for his ralts to enter the fray. "roth," he addressed the young pokémon, "confuse ray."
really, what else could the baby pokémon use other than that attack -- it was quickly struck by the thunder wave as soon as it had launched the ray attack towards the zebra. roth crumpled to the ground, paralyzed, but its synchronize was about to kick into play.
That left the poor Blitzle confused and paralyzed, rendering Electra effectively immobile. Mordecai rubbed the back of his neck as the Pokémon twitched pathetically on the floor. It would take some time for the confusion to blow over. The Pokémon blinked dazedly with a silly grin on her face.
"Electra, can you hear me?" Mordecai called, to which he got no response but bright sparks flying from the zebra-like Pokémon. "... well, you tried."
Molly, meanwhile, hung back with a frustrated expression.
(confused turn 1, paralyzed, whoops not much I can put here LOL)
J watched the helpless blitzle, and glanced at roth, who was looking back at him as well. surprsingly good for a newborn, but offensively, he had no options other than the hope that the blitzle would strike itself in its confusion. he called roth to retreat from electra's side, and glanced over to mordecai.
"do you want to call this round here? roth has no offensive skills, and electra's handicapped. unless you want to wait it out?"
Mordecai gave J a nod. "Yes, I think that would be best," he replied. The man retrieved the poor Blitzle's Pokéball, and the electric type disappeared into her Pokéball, absent-minded grin still on her face. Poor thing.
He gestured for Molly to step forward. "You're up," he said to her. "Looks like he's got an Aron, just like Ferrum. Rock and steel, so you'll have to hit pretty hard. Be careful out there, okay?" The Eevee gave a chirp before bouncing forward.
J watched the eevee bound forward, before sending dust to battle it. he'd never previously encountered an eevee, but it didn't matter. the aron toddled towards the normal-type, before J decided to take the first turn as mordecai had in the previous round.
"uh, try going for a tackle," he told the aron, and it nodded, attempting to ram into molly with its clumsy body movement.
The Aron's hard body is enough to knock the Eevee off balance. Molly shakes her head though, shaking off the attack quickly. She bounced about, staying very light on her feet.
"Tail Whip. We're going to have to lower its defenses, then go in with a Return." Mordecai knew that Molly was at least fond of him, so surely it would put a bigger dent in the Aron than a Tackle (if it could put a dent in it, that was).
The fennec fox Pokémon gave her trainer a quick nod before whipping her tail at the Aron, then thrusting her weight against the Pokémon's rocky body.
molly's tail lashed against dust's face, and the pokémon stumbled back, slightly stunned by the blow. it quickly recovered though, after some blinking and refocusing on the furry creature. J wasn't too worried about dust; it was built solidly, and barring any sudden surprises, he was sure that the aron would last another round against the eevee.
"take the blow." the aron seemed a little confused at the order, but stood still, shut its eyes, and waited for the return to strike. the fox struck true, smashing its entire weight against dust's torso, but the steel-type was none the worse for wear. it ended up a tad shaky on its feet, which was rather apparent when it tried walking.
"return the favor, dust. tackle."
(i was surprised to find out normal-type moves are like 1/4 effectiveness against aron)
If anything, the Return attack did more damage to the Eevee than to the Aron. Molly wasn't the type to give up too easily though. She shook it off and pawed at the dirt, holding her ground as the Aron thrust his weight against her. She rolled about in the dust, but quickly leaped back on her feet. It was like being tackled like a rock, but Molly still had some fight in her.
"Molly, Sand-Attack now. We're going in for the defensive."
The Eevee gave her trainer a quick nod. She knew, for a fact, that she was much faster than the rock-steel type Pokémon. It was something that she'd have to use to her advantage. The fennec fox Pokémon began to immediately kick dust and sand in the Aron's eyes, along with creating smaller dunes to obstruct the Aron's path. The smaller hills were something that Molly would have no trouble leaping nimbly to and fro, but would cause a little more problem for Dust.
tears welled up in dust's eyes as the sand-attack struck it, and as it dropped to the ground to rub at its eyes, J realized he was seeing the reenactment of an all-too familiar scene. the aron had previously succumbed to a mud-slap in the same manner, and he had pulled it out from the battle to save it from further discomfort.
he wondered if he should do the same this time, too.
"dust?" the aron continued rubbing its eyes, and the tackle it attempted out of frustration had missed by a long mark. "we're done."
he glanced at mordecai, giving him a nod as he slipped his hands into his pockets to search for dust's pokéball. "good job."
Molly reared back, ready to retaliate, but was left with a confused expression as J suddenly withdrew the Aron from battle. She glanced back at her trainer, who was nodding back at J with mutual understanding.
"Nice job, Molly," he said to the Eevee. Molly gave a squeak of joy as she bounced back to her trainer, under the impression that she had won. Mordecai gave a grin and rubbed the top of her head. He looked up to say something more to J, not sure what, but the dark-haired trainer had already withdrawn from the arena.
