This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

This was the ugly part of town. On the upside, it wasn't the ugliest part of town. Emergency and temporary shelter littered the entire area, and scourge refugees kept to themselves in tents and sometimes trailer houses.
She'd been to Nerio City before a fair number of times as she was growing up. Her most recent visit she'd spent not in a humble hostel that time, but rather here, with the rest of the survivors that had made it this far. She'd found out about the Eos Program here too. She'd visited for... no reason, really. Old time's sake.
It was nighttime, but the area was still sparsely (but brightly) lit by various campfires and floodlights. The rest of the area of an inky black tinged into grey from the diffusion of light.
Neo paced the perimeter of the refugee camp, guarding it against mostly nothing, or so she hoped. Nerio City was safe for now. Still, there may be a wild pokemon or even a daring criminal. And maybe there was scourge lurking in the darkness. It didn't hurt to check.
the outskirts of the camp were deserted, and most of the time, pokémon didn't go where humans were. they knew better than to do so; scourge had put most humans on edge, and they no longer cared whether the humans were kind or bloodthirsty. they simply didn't go near the camp anymore, and when the scourge came, they died, or fought back, then died.
as neo walked around the camp, a pokémon (foolish!) flickered into view - literally. the beginning of a ghostly flame seared the darkness, and purple embers sparked around the creature. it was a litwick.
:litwick: lv25 flash fire astonish, minimize, smog, fire spin, confuse ray, night shade, will-o-wisp, flame burst, imprison + clear smog
Her first thought was to bring out Icarus, because a surf would put out the litwick. It would also flood the entire premises. Changing her mind, Neo went for Leto's pokeball instead, releasing a gastly onto the street.
Hopefully they could keep this nice and quiet.
"Leto, nightshade and hypnosis."
under 60 hits (new status effect rules go live tomorrow, but I guess you can choose whether you want to go by current or new rules.)
the litwick floated rather ominously before deciding to send out a flame burst at the gastly. the hypnosis hit soon after though, and the candle pokémon fell quite asleep. it was still hovering in mid-air, though, its flame flickering weakly as its breathing slowed.
Leto hissed as this second flame burst struck true, and she writhed, going fully incorporeal and fading out before reconstituting herself again. She hissed again, this time with teeth bared and not in pain.
the litwick's flames flickered; it was a pretty good indicator of its health. the night shade struck it, and ghastly flames burst from its little flame atop its head. the candle pokémon released a confuse ray from its flames, before they spread in a swirl about leto in a display of fire spin.
the litwick couldn't really see the ray amidst the flames, and found its head abuzz with mysterious objects and two of leto. since when did the trainer release two gastly? letting out laughter a little too goofy for itself, the litwick used will-o-wisp.
under 50, condition ends and will-o-wisp over 50, hits self if odd, will-o-wisp if even
"We will confuse ray until it sticks," Neo ordered, annoyed. Leto was equally annoyed, and her head was still a little bamboozled from the last confuse ray she took.
Leto danced through the air, avoiding the will-o-wisp, and returning fire with another confuse ray.
the litwick made an attempt to avoid the confuse ray, and it did. it then retaliated with a flame burst coupled with a will-o-wisp. if the gastly could keep throwing confuse rays at it, it could certainly pelt it with flames.
The gastly was heavily singed and now on fire. Great.
In an uncharacteristic display of emotion, Neo threw up her hands. "This is stupid!"
She used a potion on the gastly, and threw out a second pokeball, bringing Tiresias into the fray. The deino looked confused, sniffing at the air and probably having a hard time identifying the difference between his ghost friend of his that was currently on fire and the ghost enemy that had a fire on its head.
"Bite it. No, no, turn right, that way, yes, bite."
the litwick found something grasping at its ghostly exterior, and it shrieked. its flames burst towards the dragon pokémon; if it didn't escape its jaws, it would quickly be defeated.
