This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the city square was impressive. isaac had visited often during his stay in nerio, and there was always something new to see in the area. he'd seen many different people and things for sale.
now, it was different. the city square, glamorous as it was, had started showing signs of decay from the influx of refugees. isaac figured that it was only natural, but even though they were refugees and peddling their wares about, the goods on display were still pretty damn expensive.
isaac chewed on some candy floss contemplatively, and walked through the busy streets of nerio city square.
under these dimmed streetlights and impressive crowds, it could be anyone's mistake. tonight, it just so happened to be hers. still, it's fortunate that she is disinclined to talk to her colleagues in the public sphere. what really bothers her is when he walks closer and sophia notices that he seems...different, somehow. a bit on the younger side, as if she's gazing through an old photo album.
she catches herself staring, as if the boy is merely a page in a photo album. for all sophia knows, he could be. she has never been inclined to pry into iskander's life, and now morbid curiosity takes root. as he comes closer, she sees the shadows of someone else as well. sophia isn't sure.
should she approach him? either way, he seems to have no intention of stopping.
she should probably look away now. it's really none of her business.
isaac hadn't noticed sophia. neither had clavier or timbre, actually. the axew and tirtouga were occupied with their own interests, except for the nurse pokémon. sonata, the chansey, had noticed sophia's incessant staring and chose to stare back. it waddled over to isaac, and tapped him on the small of his back.
the ranger jumped.
"jeez, sonata!" he said, "stop surprising me like this." isaac laughed, and glanced over his shoulder accordingly, as sonata had pointed towards sophia. his gaze located the agent, and he tilted his head. a small frown curved his mouth. he had never seen this person before, had he?
isaac wasn't sure. his parents did love to drag the siblings to balls and events on a monthly basis, or more. maybe it was someone he had met, but forgot. isaac turned around, and decidedly ate more of his cotton candy. good thing she hadn't said anything that would have forced him to say something in return.
"sorry" sophia attempts to reclaim the situation before it looks incriminating. "i think i mistook you for someone else"
she doesn't think that she's met this iskander doppleganger, but she could be wrong.
"i hope that i didn't startle you" she nods at the chansey. suddenly, sophia wonders what it was like to have multiple pokemon. she had stopped taking her froslass to the city, and even tighter instructions to stay behind at all times. ever since decima, at least. she thinks that she would have regretted it more than the others, had fantine accidentally snapped mordecai's neck.
isaac blinked. "o-oh, it's not a big deal," he said, grinning at the lady, "everyone makes mistakes sometimes. it's fine. i'm not startled or anything, so if i'm bothering you i'll take my leave." the boy glanced at his pokémon and figured they may have been the reason why. not everyone walked around with three pokémon around them. the chansey specie was a rarity outside pokémon centers, too.
"sorry," he apologized in return, giving sophia a quick nod.
isaac blnked. huh, so this woman knew him then? probably one of those people he'd met at parties, he thought. "yes, i do," said the ranger, nodding. "do you know him?"
sophia didn't like to interfere in fellow agents' affairs. what she knew about iskander is rather minimal. even to a brother, she's not exactly sure if it would be safe to mention their colleague relationship in any capacity.
so she doesn't. after all, she would have been genuinely upset if someone had mentioned anything in front of her brother, had he stayed alive.
"not very well" sophia pauses. "are we talking about the same person?"
sophia reigns in her curiosity for the sake of decorum. she is surprised to hear his answer, but she doesn't show it.
"sorry for bothering you, then" of course, keeping a low profile always beat curiosity in the end. "goodbye, mordecai's brother"
so maybe she never asked for his name, but sophia never had qualms about being referred to as 'daniel's baby sister'. she assumes that this boy is the same.
isaac glanced at the woman, and nodded. even though he didn't like being called mordecai's brother, he had been called just that too many times in his life to count. he was able to put it aside. as he waved goodbye to the lady, he felt that this encounter had been a strange one, and wondered if he would ever see her again.
