"dumb old man..." grayson grumbled, sitting at the edge of the doc. he had tried to fashion a fishing rod out of a stick and some string, using a clothing hook for the bait hook... thing.
ionis was resting beside grayson, watching the water. grayson ran a gentle hand through the gogoat's fur, very careful not to stir any sort of bandage or sutures he had sewn into the pokemon. as for a response, ionis didn't give one. "it's all right." by the wearing of his horns, grayson could tell the other was older.
fishing was boring, grayson decided. it was an old man task. more fitted for ionis if he had thumbs rather than grayson himself.
Nix sat at the edge of the water and she looked down into it, her skin crawling as she did so. She actually rather likes water but since she lost shadow she found being close to a lot of it made her uneasy, something stupid to consider when one knew her partner pokemon. Mimi was swimming in the water ahead of her which she was sure was the reason for her not catching a blooming thing, she had been gifted this old rod so why not try and use it. A voice behind her made her laugh softly and nod her head, "Not the most fun ever, is it..." she said in a low voice that she didn't mean to really say, just think. She turned her head to see a male nearby who seemed to be trying to fish as well, and doing as well as her it seemed.

well excuse me, who was this? some dinky little girl talking to him, that's the dream. why was she swimming in the water? it had taken a blast by zim to melt some ice for him to fish. "what the hell are you doing in the water." grayson deadpanned, staring down at the redhead with almost a revolted expression.
keeping it classy, grayson always was. even ionis moved to stare at the girl, before shaking his head and settling back down to stare into the water. when the "fishing line" jerked slightly, he butted his head against grayson's side, who quickly yanked on the stick.
his big catch of the day was simply an old boot. it was a good thing he wasn't fishing for food.
Nix shifted on the edge of the water before she turned up at the voice that came back to her, well alrighty then. Ok, she was sitting at the edge of the water and had considered dipping her legs in the water but she had a pokemon that was born to swim on her team. Why not? "Do excuse mimi, she saw the water and dived on in. The dratini in question turned her head at her name and then gave a little mew before she dived under the water, just as the male hooked a boot it seemed. Nix tried to keep her laugh hidden though mimi did no such thing, bubbles coming to the surface as she laughed to herself

the air was filled with foul curses from grayson's mouth as he threw the boot back to the ice, the hard heel crashing through the ice. out of irritation, grayson started to hard-core judge the redhead. he remembered when he was her age, what, she looked like she was fourteen. "i didn't ask about your dratini, i asked about you." scorn was clear on grayson's face, squinting at her with an eyebrow raised. his rough demeanor was contradictory from his gentle hand on ionis's horns.
again, he cast his line. maybe next month horace would be willing to give a certain fishing rod to him. it was only now that grayson remembered he was supposed to be nicer to people.
Nix gave a small growl as the male snapped back at her, "Well i aint in the water, just close to it. She's the swimmer" she snapped back in the same tone he spoke to her in. She wasnt one to snap without reason but she also didnt like rude people, it was just part of her she couldnt help keep down. Mimi dipped under the ice again and swam through the water again, her pink skin shining under the water as she moved making nix smile as she watched her. Nix looked down at her own rob, still nothing on the end of it but she was enjoying herself none the less

well, someone had a backbone. that's refreshing to say the least. if nana were out of her pokeball she'd be scolding him so hard for being rude.
well, nothing was really biting. grayson threw out the rod, tossing it down into the water. he might as well let some pokemon have their fun while they were here though. "fluke, you'll have fun here." out of the pokeball he had taken out, a bright purple spheal rolled out onto the ice with a red beam of light. he cheered, clapping his paws before rolling away on the ice. ionis shook his head, watching the much younger pokemon with a watchful eye. grayson could practically see the grandfather inside the gogoat.
be nicer. right. um. "so, what, you're a trainer?"
Ok, she hated to admit it now but this was getting boring. Her hands were getting cold wrapped around the rod and nothing was biting, not to mention she was sure mimi was scaring off anything that even considered it. She sighed and placed the rod down at her side before a little pink head appeared in front of her and mewed at her, "Well how am i supposed to catch anything with you swimming about?" nix asked in a playful voice that earned a laugh from the pokemon before she dived under the ice again. This was the moment nix noted a new pokemon on the ice, one belonging to the male she assumed since it was so close to him. He spoke again and the words seemed much calmer, maybe the fishing really hadn't agreed with him. "Yea, new trainer and all but i am. Yourself?" she said with a little nod in his direction, she could see the grass type at his side so she assumed he was a trainer too but she could be way off king

that little dratini could also have been the reason for his own failure at fishing. or because of the fact he didn't have a fishing rod.
nah, it was totally the dratini.
"a breeder." he paused. "it's been a long, long time since i've battled. if you're new, would you like some practice? after all... i'm just a mere breeder. whaddaya say, a two on two double battle."
it would be good practice for when he went to the gym to try his luck there. ionis reared his head, scooting closer to the edge of the dock. "don't worry." grayson gently scratched behind the gogoat's ears. "not you. you just rest and then we'll see when you're better."
That she had not seen coming. "well, I dunno. For all i know you could be some seasoned breeder taking time off for fun" she said with a little tilt of her head, she knew that there were people who trained a team all the way up and then took on new pokmemon to start over. What if he had some level 50 pokemon and she was stuck with her little gang, not to mention she only had poko and minx aside mimi. But she still wanted to battle, "If you can promise me you got some pokemon close to our level range, then sure thing" she said with a nod of her head. She did want to battle as much as she could, she wanted her pokemon to get stronger and she wanted to get closer to her pokemon so, why not? king

well she was smarter than she appeared. "i have a few." he reached to his belt, tossing out two pokemon. "here's mile and visk." there was a very evident type advantage with the two pokemon he'd thrown out. "they're a bit new. newer than my other pokemon, that is."
ionis, though an old wounded man, could probably stomp his way through the girl's pokemon easily.
Nix couldnt help but grin, she could see he hadn't quite expected her to ask about more powerful pokemon. She looked at the two pokemon he threw out only to feel a little ill, they looked a lot stronger than even her strongest pokemon. But, she did have poko. And she knew Mimi was actually hard to get damage in on, so maybe she had a chance. Heck, if she could lower one of this pokemon she would feel better about herself. "Well, i'd use Mimi who you've met and Poko" she said, lowering a hand to her belt and pulling up poko's ball before clicking her free. The pokemon appeared in a flash of light before she turned to look at nix and then snorted and turned away again, "blooming rude" nix muttered softly king

well then. "i suppose i'll go first then. mile, start us off with leer on the ponyta and tackle on the dratini. visk, autotomize and then rock tomb against the ponyta.
mile used leer. mile used tackle on dratini. visk used autotomize, visk became nimble. visk used rock tomb on ponyta.
Nix barely got a moment to find her feet before the male was calling out attacks and she started back on the edge of the dock, "well ok then. Poko, get out of the way of the rock tomb" nix said with a little tilt of her head and for once the ponyta did as she was told. However she then went on to turn right in to the leer headed for her and froze for a moment. "Honestly" nix muttered as she turned her gaze from one of her pokemon to the next, mimi has taken the tackle to her side and now was turning herself around and nix nodded. "Mim, thunder wave on the steelix then go with dragon pulse on it too" she said with a nod before her gaze turned to poko, now shaking herself and moving forwards again. "Poko, ember on steelix too!" nix called out as the pokemon decided she wanted to use the move herself, well one pokemon listening to her was good enough, surely...
