This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

It had been a long time since Helvetica had been to Proserpina, it brought back memories. This was the second town that she had ever been to after she practically ran from Cura to Juno without sleeping or stopping. She practically fell asleep in Cypress' lab. She wondered how he was doing, maybe she should see him after she was done feeling nostalgic. She could show him how far she had grown.
Perhaps due to the fact that she was zoning out and thinking, rather than paying attention, the sixteen year old tripped getting onto the sidewalk and fell onto a man. Oh god!
"I'm so so sorry!" She began to apologize like crazy.
hisham stood near the entrance of the city in a freshly laundered and pressed outfit. he held a cup of coffee in one hand and his father's pocketwatch in the other.
there were a lot of different ways in which this scene can go wrong. murphy's law does not disappoint. maybe the stains will come out -- hisham has never really doubted his luck so far. at least he was tall enough not to be knocked off his feet, and the drink was merely lukewarm.
"hey, it's fine." being an asshole to kids wasn't his thing, and the butterfly that he had caught in his net is cute. hisham tosses his cup into a nearby trashcan and starts rolling up his sleeves to hide the stains. "kinda missed that roast, but you haven't killed anyone"
"No, it's not!" She ruined the poor guy's outfit. While Heal didn't exactly care when she messed up her clothes, she didn't know how others felt - and she knew better than to just assume. "Let me buy you a new shirt or something." She wiped the dirt off of her outfit, adjusted those cat ears that sat on top of her head.
"Or buy you lunch, or, or something." She just wanted to make up for this. She still remembered places to eat and buy clothes.
"i'm not too sure on how to refuse a lady's impassioned insistence" well. that was a bit of a lie, but the ladies that he was thinking about weren't creditors or busybodies. hisham pretends to mull over the idea little bit, although he had already made up his mind by then. he's learned that hesitation can be reassuring at times. the impulsive are dangerous, and hisham cannot say that they are wrong. the only difference is, he takes it as a compliment. "it's a date, then." he gives her an easy smile. "i don't really know my way around proserpina, i admit, but i trust that you do?"
this certainly beat trying to find a tour guide. GMOT ?
She smiled wide. "It's been a while since I've been here, but I think I do remember my way around."
"What would you like to eat, or drink? Is that outfit a brand or something?" She asked him a few questions before grabbing his hand and shaking it. It was exciting to meet new people.
"I'm Helvetica, like the font, butmost people call me Heal. I'm an eos trainer, and heir to a dojo in Cura." Introductions were cool right? Why was she nervous? Was it because he was clearly older and dare she say it, cute? She had already vowed herself to Jayden, but that didn't mean she couldn't just have crushes right? "Who are you, sir?"
"heh. if they were a brand, then i probably would have asked you to buy me dinner too" one easy smile for another. "i'm not mean enough to eat you broke, though i could use another cup of coffee. the day is still young."
his handshake is solid, although his grip becomes a little more firm when the girl starts talking about who she is. not a passing tourist, then. not that proserpina is much of a vacation destination, especially not after the scourge started encroaching on the land. oh, they will have so much to talk about.
"i'd like to hear more about that, actually. see, i'm actually an eos trainer myself." he reaches for a pokeball at his belt and releases a grey eevee. he crouches and the small pokemon jumps onto his shoulder to act like a second necktie. "my name is hisham mersault" GMOT ?
"Coffee it is then." Heal never acquired a taste for coffee before she joined the eos program - now she had to drink it, for there were many many nights in which she had to keep herself awake. She still didn't like the taste of coffee, but now she could at least stomach it.
He had a pretty cute eevee with him. She remembered back to a time when it didn't hurt, or even feel uncomfortable for Cypress to sit on her shoulder. "Pleasure to meet you Hisham."
"Well I suppose it doesn't really hurt, I've been in the eos program for seven, maybe eight months. You kinda lose track of time after awhile." She smiled as she grabbed his arm and tugged him away to the nearest coffee shop, her heart aflutter. "I'm lucky though, I'm still alive and I haven't lost a single pokemon." She opened the door, let go of his hand, and food the nearest two people table she could find. "In all honesty, I thought I would have died within four months of joining." Her look turned serious.
"I won't sugarcoat this for you, I don't believe in lying."
hisham might have laughed at her naivete, but he doesn't. maybe it was better for the eos trainers to believe that the organization always means the best for them. that kohaku means the best for them. "leave it up to the people who aren't fighting for their lives to keep track of time, i would say." he tilts his head almost inquisitively. "you're busy writing history, aren't you?"
his arm probably felt rather rigid, but he accomodated the angle a little so that heal can latch on comfortably. she picked a nice table, close enough to the windows to let in what little sunlight there is in jaunary. "seems like quite the learning experience. care to give a beginner a few tips?"
hisham knew a thing or two about pokemon battles, but there's always the odd tidbit about the war that only a person who's been on the front would know. he wouldn't be fighting his way through pokemon. he would be fighting his way through monsters. GMOT ?
"I suppose I am, likewise, I'm busy trying to not die." Her voice and facial expression turned a bit grim, but only for a moment before a smile replaced it. She had seen things on this trip that she never really wanted to ever see. She supposed that defending her homeland came with a price at times - her peace of mind.
"I can give you some tips if you'd like." She felt some kind of surge of confidence, an older man, a handsome older man was coming to her for advice? It flattered her beyond all compare.
"Scourge, I don't know if you've ever seen them, but they're not... not Pokemon. Some have bonded with people, they call themselves," she tried to remember. "Hades Agents, I think? Some travel in packs, tearing everything in their wake. Others are just plain bloodthirsty. Even a Pokemon that was weak in life, suddenly becomes a problem when the virus hits them." As if they double their strength.
She ordered coffee, just plain with a boatload of suger to sweeten the disgusting tasting beverage. "It's terrifying." She looked down and spoke softly, not wanting to let her facial expression be shown.
that's a good thing when hisham is counting on the young lady to be flattered beyond compare. it's much easier than having to deal with a young lady who was offended beyond compare. personal experience? no way.
"an admirable pasttime, i assure you. not everyone has the courage to pursue it." hisham gives a careless wave. "yes, i was hoping that you would enlighten me."
he orders a cup of black coffee. hisham folds his hands together, leaning in slightly. the very picture of attention. if the girl wanted to interpret it as special attention, then he's not stopping her.
his expression turns somber at the right moments, and he even acts as if he was about to speak every now and then, but hisham remains silent until heal is done speaking.
"scourge pokemon that are bound to humans? that sounds very...interesting." there was no other word for it, really. "no chance that they could be ordered away from the cities by these 'hades agents', i suppose?" his tone is lighthearted, but not overtly so. he wouldn't want the girl to think that he wasn't taking her seriously, after all. that's all that young people really want. hisham lived to please. "hey, it's okay to be afraid, heal. everyone's afraid. the only difference is that you haven't run away."
