This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

There were some who might label her choice of meeting place as unnecessarily morbid. Thalia couldn't honestly disagree with them. The dim blue light of the catacombs threw everything into shadows, and she couldn't help but remember Di Manes as it had been, scourge erupting from the very ground beneath their feet, leaving only broken bodies and blood where they passed.
The togepi sat silently in her lap as the two of them waited for their guest. If there were ghosts about, neither pokemon nor human took heed of them. Perhaps the dead slept peacefully.
di manes wasn't an appropriate place to meet anyone, but when one was eos and the other used to be eos, anywhere was as good a meeting point as it got. the laetus catacombs suited J just fine.
his arrival was punctuated by a sharp look from thalia's togepi. the creature had never changed at all. J offered thalia a small nod, face devoid of expression as usual. stoically, he sat before her.
"Nothing you haven't heard about, I'm sure," she said. "Nerio fell, and then it un-fell. Saw you at Decima--I got a wicked cool scar there, by the way--and battled some new agents, but none of that's what I wanted to talk to you about. Neo and I found some papers at Pax."
J remembered neo's words at the casino. it had been punctuated by a dealer paying out exorbitant amounts of money (he was really shitty at baccarat), but it had something to do with pax and lemures. he nodded.
"tell me about it," he said, referring to the scar, "and the papers." he had been out of the loop, after all.
the conquest for nerio's underworld wasn't a part-time job.
Thalia shrugged her leggings halfway off. It was okay, she was wearing boxers underneath. Mostly she just wanted to show him the scar. It was jagged and still red and ran from the top of her right knee cap to her hip. "Got taken prisoner for a bit," she said, pulling her leggings back on. "The girl we fought in Decima, with the froslass, she was one of them who grabbed me. Old news though. Lemures is the interesting thing. We found some papers in the Institute. The scientists there discovered some sort of tear between dimensions around the same time that the scourge started. Neo made it sound like you could pass through maybe. We're planning to try. I'm supposed to hunt down Mordecai and take him with me but if I can't find him in time, I'm going to need some help, somehow. That's why I wanted to talk."
"Go with me? To Lemures? No. Neo needs you more. I have a better shot of surviving on my own if it came down to it than she does. But finding the papers got me thinking. It feels like the scourge are always the proactive ones and we're forever reacting. They push forward, all we do is push back. Our one victory has been Bellona, and they still swarmed over Nerio after that.
Before we go to Lemures, I want to find something that might help against the scourge. They researched in Pax and found this rift, this virus. Why can't we do the same? Kohaku is littered with the remnants of the past. What's to say we couldn't find something that might help us?"
"There's the Amberwell, yeah. The Anvil is here in Di Manes. The Artifice, but that's empty and in Bacchus to boot. The Monolith, the creepy place with all the tablets, that old fountain, and the Prism.
The Anvil and the Amberwell are probably closest to us."
