This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Batin is lurking around the Amberwell plotting evil things.
Okay that's a bit unfair: he's not that close to the Amberwell, although he's getting closer. And if you were to ask him if he were planning evil things, he'd vehemently deny it. He thinks he's planning useful things! But no one is usually more convinced of their own righteousness than villains, after all.
He hoped he didn't run into that pesky green-haired EOS researcher who was always foiling his plans.
"Trust me, if you knew her like I knew her, you'd realize how underhanded that message was. I wonder how she ran into you, hmm? She doesn't come out much these days."
Lucario was perched in a nearby tree, perfectly content to let his partner have his games.
Why was he here alone? The Amberwell was one of Eos' strongholds, especially with Olivia always somewhere in the area. She'd expect agents to lurk there like Eos lurked at Pax Institute, but alone? That's pretty bold.
She took a step back from him, realizing that within punching distance is really too close to be standing next to an agent.
"Oh? So tell me, how do you know her, Mr. Brand?" she asked.
"Her fiancee story? How long did you two spend talking about me?"
He shrugged.
"I'm not a scientist. Wasn't one before, either. The most I know about chemical compounds is baking, and the most I know about psychology is just what goes on inside my head. I'm afflicted. I have my theories on why it happens, why only certain people become agents, but they're not scientific. They're just musings."
"If it was Sophia, the hurt was genuine. I'd advise you to be careful around her though."
"As for my theories, they're not that ambitious. In humans, the scourge is attracted to a deficiency or a flaw. The scourge marks us out, those of us who were always wrong, and in doing so it culls us out of humanity so that we can't further spread our taint, isolates whatever is broken in us from the gene pool. But I wouldn't rule out never tasting my baking yet. You'd go to your grave regretting never having tasted my scones."

"She doesn't seem stable. I'm inclined to blame you for that."
Neo wasn't sure what sort of theory she'd expected, but it wasn't that. That was unnecessarily bleak, although interesting to note. She wondered if other agents were similarly bleak. "So you and Sophia can't make babies? Probably for the best. I see where your theory finds its roots."
She laughed, a scoffing sound that escaped from her throat. "More like your scones may send me to my grave, should I be mad enough to accept them."
"She's had a hard life, and a great deal of it happened before I met her. She does disapprove of my more recent choices, I'll concede."
"Children are a hassle, with no appreciation for good plate presentation. I have no idea if I can make them or not, but I have no interest in doing so. You're probably right it'd be ill-advised if we did reproduce though."
For maybe the first time ever in a conversation, Batin looked genuinely hurt.
"My scones are delicious. If I wanted to kill someone, I'd just kill them. I wouldn't ruin perfectly good food."
