This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

karimi examines the un-exploded drifloon closely before throwing a virus ball at it. her pokemon still had dodges saved up, and her arcanine had survived phantom force, at least.
"hey, you're not half bad!" she grins at him. "i guess you're a veteran, huh. that didn't look like your first rodeo." vertigo
"guess so!" she chirps. "so uh. i never did get your name, i don't think. i'm karimi, a researcher! although i guess that kind of goes without saying." her pokedex is still in her hand, after all vertigo
"maybe you just think that you don't since it's not like everyone grows up with their cousins." she mulls over it a little. "neo said that he looked exactly like you, though. except 'better dressed'. her words, not mine." karimi thinks that j dresses pretty okay. vertigo
"i guess? i mean, i kinda figured that most people know their twins." wait, that was a bit insensitive, wasn't it? karimi winces. "sorry, i probably shouldn't have." not with all the missing family members that fell victim to the scourge.
and that's a pretty lame response, but what else can she really say?
"well, it's not all doom and gloom!" karimi attempts some semblance of optimism. "at least there's nothing holding you back, right? you're free to do whatever you damn well want, and-"
she falls silent. is this what she had wanted, once? to leave the burdens of the karimis behind, back when the scourge were not a threat to kohaku. (don't think of them as baggage, alia karimi, don't you dare).
