This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

physis doesn't even blink at the insult. she knows what she is, and she's known it for so long that his words were about as insulting as calling her a woman or a hades agent. she is alive because she knows cowardice. physis feels no shame in being alive.
she lets him go by shoving him away, into the direction of a tree so that she may deal with the new arrival. she does not see what she saw in the girl that she was about to kill in decima. he is of little importance.

She doesn't react when Kaz calls out her name - it only means that she'll have to watch her back later on - and she only grits her teeth when the scourge-allied human pushes Kaz away and takes out something from their pocket.
...it's a styler. Like a ranger's. Ahuda would have used her own but she's not trained in it enough yet damnit and so she does the one thing that would've gotten her labeled her as crazy if this wasn't a scourge battle.

alex wandered over from the well, having ditched his companion from earlier. he felt something thrum in his veins, and saw an ongoing battle. oh yeah, there was an invasion going on. alex had forgotten, oops.
"well, sonata, let's dance." he stood beside the other agent, recognizing that she was such with the feeling pumping through his blood. the gengar emerged from his shadow, laughing before slithering over to where the mamoswine stood.

His small taunt apparently had no effect on the woman, who, with strength he wasn't expecting, tossed Kaz aside like the child he was. Physically, he may have been physically larger, but he was still an innocent, untouched child in this game that he knew she'd certainly been playing for some time now. He cursed under his breath as he regather himself, his hands gently pressing against the trunk of the tree to regain his balance. Ahuda would finish her off. All was well.
And then another voice rang out, this one too masculine to be either women. Kaz jumped at the sound as he turned his body quickly to face a second agent. "Fuck." he murmured under his breath, helplessly looking on at Ahuda.
Honest to Arceus, do they really have to aim for Lyre? Ahuda can only watch helplessly as the poor politoed takes the brunt of every attack, and the guy that suddenly appears out of nowhere to attack it doesn't help, either. Nor does the burn that Madonna gets soothe her mind, and with gritted teeth and a muttered curse Ahuda raises her styler while running toward her poke assist.
She's never done this before, but damn her if she doesn't try.

alex steps up to the politoed, whisking him up into his arms before ahuda can grab him. he inspects the pokemon, finger drawing across the politoed's skin. "you should really vaccinate your pokemon. beasts like us might get your precious pokemon sick." he throws the body to the ground, hard. "let this serve as a reminder."
physis can't say that she likes being called a beast, but this isn't the time to comment. she gauges the flow of the battle and draws a single sign. necessity will dictate her actions now.
For fear of his own Pokemon's safety, Kaz found himself staying silent. The one with the blue hair seemed more unstable than the woman, somehow more despicable. It was probably because he was talking. Still, Kaz resisted the urge to level him and stood off, away from either side of the battle. He couldn't help but stare that the one with the helmet. She'd taken him down and then threw him off to the side. Why?
Ahuda's Politoed fell hard, being taken by the other agent. Remorse pinched at Kaz as he watched him trace a finger along the poor Pokemon, throwing it to the ground with a thud. Again, he allowed things to ensue as to protect himself and his team. There was nothing he could do for Ahuda except tell her to run, but he was sure that she was probably aware of that already. He was really quite useless. nette
She grits her teeth, clenching her jaw until it hurts and only moves when the blue-haired man throws him to the ground - moving past him with the politoed in her arms, virus be damned. She knew people that could help with vaccines, and if Lyre really was infected - well, she'd cross that bridge when she came to it.

She can't carry two pokemon in her arms, especially one as large as Madonna or Lyre. She recalls her partner instead, quickly switching the pokeball in her hand for her styler. Why, she doesn't know, but the familiar weight is comforting in her palm. "What do you want?" she asks the duo. It never hurt to ask, even if the question's late, and it isn't like she has other choices at the moment.

it's with a smirk that alex watches the girl retrieve the politoed. he glances to physis. she wasn't quite sure of how heartless he was, unless she had picked up on it in nerio. he beckons sonata back to stand beside him, surprising the gengar. alex draws ice over the amberwell, hindering the girl from throwing her politoed into it. "i would mercy kill your politoed if i were you."
alex begins to take interest in the one behind the girl. "you seem out of place just standing there." he called, stepping forward. "haven't you more friends to call?"
they asked for blood, what do you think this woman's made of?
Your mouth tastes like smoke and ash. You cannot imagine how the ground doesn't blacken beneath your feet, grass and brush turning to flame. This is the fate of monsters; they only destroy. This is the fate of girls who fight monsters; they become them.
But as long as she knows what she is, she's safe. When she starts to think the blood painted on her hands is right, that's when she'll need to be put down like the rabid animals she kills. But not now. Not yet.
Thalia's eevee leaps down from where he'd been perched atop the corpse of a scourge luxray and stalks forward, waiting for her to follow him. Ceres isn't safe anymore, but Thalia tries to push the darkness back when she can. If anyone can. She trails after him, trusting his awareness over her own. She can't hear anything over the wild pounding of her heart, anyway, the endless rushing of blood through her veins.
He leads her to the Amberwell. Thalia isn't surprised. Many things start at this place, it seems--the memory of Ismael's sodden body, slight against the encroaching darkness, flashes in her mind. Perhaps something will end here today as well. The silhouettes that resolve themselves into people as she steps into the clearing take a moment to register. Three she knows, one she doesn't. Ahuda, the ranger. Thalia feels only a distant sadness at the sight of her, here and now. She's clutching a pokemon Thalia can't make out from here to her chest. She would have spared her that grief if she could have.
The other two inspire less pity in her. The woman from Bacchus Gym is here, and Alex.
Thalia smiles a predator's smile at Alex. The woman she has no time for.
"You can't see the stars through the trees here," she says to him. "It's a shame."

she had found peace when the ranger's pokemon had gone down. a kind that made her believe that the sun would rise again and the stars would return to guide her across the land. like she would fit back into the frame like a puzzle piece from the box.
it's not a peace that lasts forever. when eos trainer number two arrives upon the scene, physis feels as if she is being jerked out of a hot shower and into the bitter cold. they never stop coming, never ever. that's what she had learned in may, just when she had thought that the world would remain in equilibrium forever.
what flimsy naivete. there is no peace from the eos program. there is only a hunger that not even the blood of the scourge can satisfy. with every passing battle, physis becomes less and less convinced of the innate differences between the trainers and the agents. perhaps that is why she can trade blows with them at all.

Things had really spiraled. Standing there, watching them tear Ahuda's team down with little to no effort knotted Kaz's stomach. Even if he revived his team, they had no chance. The only thing he'd be able to do was stall, and even then, for how long? A minute? Two? The torture his Vullaby would feel would hardly be worth a minute until someone came. If anyone came. He kicked at the dirt, trying to contain his...despair? Disappointment? Was there a word? He felt like he'd let open the gates of hell. Whatever that felt like.
He didn't have any other friends. He could call Karimi, but even then, it would be too late, recalling her saying something about Pax. No, there was no one. Still, he didn't owe the man any response -- he'd been cut off by a new arrival anyway. All of Eos were friends, and they outnumbered the two agents in front of him, that much he knew. The pink-haired girl seemed to understand that. All he had left to do was wait and pray. nette
Her lips pull into a twisted parody of a smile, teeth mocking on her face. Like hell she'd kill her pokemon. It might've been better off if she did, perhaps, but there was always that slim hope that the politoed wouldn't be infected by the Hades disease. The iced-over water, she doesn't give a second glance - it'll melt, given time, and Ahuda has no intention of just handing it over to Hades, downed pokemon or no.
Thalia seems a god-given gift at this point, when the pink-haired trainer comes down on them like a vengeful predator. Ahuda steps back, next to Kaz, letting her take over. The ranger can't do anything at this point, so it's all she can do to try and keep Lyre comfortable while she waited to see how things would turn out.
