This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

William stared into the crystal clear waters of the Amberwell as he sat at its edge with his feet in the icy water. The Amberwell was nothing more than a pond, but people seemed to flock to it because of it's curative properties. But no matter how long he sat and soaked in the waters it would still not fix the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.
To his right William's elekid played in the shallows of the well. This was his only pokemon that was properly vaccinated against the hades virus, and he knew that as his journey progressed, the more likely it would be for him to lose a comrade to this plague. He had already lost his mother to it, and he didn't want to lose anyone else. Elekid seemed to sense his trainer's worries as he began to tug at his shirt, trying to get him to come and play with him.
This put a smile across William's face. He stood up, beating the dirt off of his shorts. "Alright! Alright! But you better run, 'cause I'm gonna get you!" He took off after the small yellow creature, chasing him around the Amberwell.
What a refreshing day! Sure, it was still cold, but today was decidedly tamer than most. It was actually getting close to pleasant, or as pleasant as winter could be! Maybe it was the forest, or maybe it was the amberwell itself, but the weather was not as bitingly harsh. Having gotten into the habit of traveling alongside Phoenix, his Rapidash, for the sake of warmth, the two meandered into the glad at an easy pace. Spotting the pond, he had a few flashbacks to an earlier time, and his first battle - and all the strangeness that entailed. Honestly, he wasn’t sure how to feel about those memories, eheheh. But seeing someone playing with their pokemon made him grin to himself. It was always nice to see happiness in the midst of all this bleak battling.
Having gotten rather close to the edge of the crystalline pool himself, he rummaged into his bag and pulled out a poke ball. A flash of red exposed a Seadra into the waters, where it shivered happily and trilled. “It’s been awhile, huh Zooka?” Zooka made happy noises in return, before submerging to zip around the shallow water. Nima was content to watch him from solid ground, now leaning lightly against the warm side of Phoenix. Not wanting to be rude, but also not wanting to interrupt, the blond researcher picked a moment to wave at the young man when it seemed he might see the gesture.
As William was playing with his pokemon he caught a red flash, from the corner of his eye, followed by something splashing in the Amberwell. He looked over to see a Seadra zipping through the shallow waters, but where did it come from? Just seconds before William had thought he was alone in the clearing.
He looked around, looking for the pokemon's trainer and finally found her. Across the stood this beautiful young woman, not much older than William, and her Rappidash. When he took notice of her she waved to him and he took this as an invitation to come on over. He scooped his Elekid up placing him on his shoulders, and trotted over.
As he approached the woman he extended his hand and allowed a warm smile to stretch across his face. "Hey, I'm William. And this little guy." He gestured at the Elekid sitting on his shoulders. "..is Elekid."
He hadn’t intended to interrupt the fellow trainer, but friendly gestures often begot the same. He wasn’t the sort that minded friendly chit-chat! Grinning, he waited for the stranger to reach him, at which point he was presented with a cordial handshake and greeting. The handshake was definitely not what he expected - for some reason, he’d never thought to do the same! “Nice to meet you both!” Nima shook William’s hand warmly, not minding the fact his were noticeably more slender. It was a fact of life for him by now. “My name’s Nima, this one here is Phoenix, and the one in the water is Zooka.” The Rapidash tossed his head happily, and then stepped in to nuzzle at both William and the Elekid. Zooka was too busy playing about to bother with introductions. Having shaken the man’s hand, Nima smiled up at the little electric type. “How do you do Elekid?” The researcher had a habit of treating pokemon the same as people. Or maybe he treated people the same as pokemon? It was hard to tell sometimes.
