This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Florance had just started her journey. Her hands shoved deep in her pockets. She was a tough girl. She was hardened or so she'd like to think. Even though over the past few years she had cleaned up her act. In truth, she was mushy and a bit clingy on the inside, which was probably why she decided to be become a breeder rather than a trainer, researcher, or ranger, who went to the frontlines.
She kicked a vending machine that had ate her dollar. "Yo!" She pointed to some passerby. "Can I borrow a dollar? I'll pay you back."
for some reason, money and ikram seemed to be inexplicably tied together in the strangest of ways. not too long ago, she too, had been struggling with a vending machine and a lack of money. it was a sentiment she understood. the ranger adjusted the watch-like styler upon her left wrist, and raised her hand in response to the red-haired female.
"hey!" she said, offering a small smile as the first passerby the other girl pointed to darted out of the way, "i'll lend you a dollar. you don't really need to pay me back." ikram racked her mind for a suitable quote to employ. "... i uh, had to pass on a good turn."
ikram rummaged about her pockets and handed to the girl a slightly crumpled dollar. "i guess you have a point," she said, "so i'll just say thank you, okay?"
she shrugged. "it doesn't really mean anything, in hindsight," said the ranger as she surveyed the goods in the vending machine, "forget about it, i suppose." a smile.
Florance nodded when the girl handed her the dollar, and flattened it on the corner of the vending machine before feeding it the dollar and finally getting the snack she wanted. "Thanks."
"I'll probably be able to repay you by tonight, can I get your c-gear number?"
"you're welcome," said ikram, waiting for the other female to make her choice. she wondered what she was going to buy. "well, there's no real rush, but ... a c-gear?"
ikram seemed slightly taken aback at the idea. "well," she said, regaining her composure as swiftly as she had lost it, "i ... lost mine. i've wanted to get a new one for a while now. could we go together -- i mean, it's strange going with someone you don't know, but ..." ikram offered her a small smile, hopeful.
"going alone feels strange."
GMOT ? (( i don't even have a c-gear for her yet, thanks for reminding me lol ))
Oh boy, Florance didn't sign up for this. However, she didn't seem to have much of a choice. She opened up her bag of chips, she was damn hungry. In between wolfing down the potato chips and trying not to choke, she nodded. She forced a clump of food down her throat, swallowing hard. "Yeah, I'll go with you. Only because I need to repay you, alright?"
"yep," ikram said, turning towards the nearest gadget shop that sold c-gears. they were everywhere, and the ranger settled for the shop nearest to the vending machine because she didn't really feel like walking all that far.
she peered at the various c-gears on display, not sure which make to get. there weren't any assistants around to help her out either, so she was left staring for a while.
By the time they had started walking, Florance had finished her chips and had thrown the bag away. She shoved her hands into her pockets as she followed the woman. "Found one you like?"
"nope," said ikram, "i can't really decide. there's so many of them." she trailed a finger across the glass panel, before settling on a silver one. "how does this look to you?"
she brightened up at the introduction. "it's nice to meet you, florance! i'm ikram," said the ranger, giving her a quick nod of acknowledgement. to her surprise, the glass casing slid open without resistance, allowing her to pluck the c-gear out of the stand. she flipped it around in her hand, testing the weight and feel of it in general.
Boy, this girl was cheery. In a kind of infectious way that caused Florance to feel a bit more happy herself. "If you have the coin, it's nice." Noting the pricetag underneath. Florance's c-gear was old, but it worked well enough. She wants to replace it, but that would just be a waste.
"yeah," ikram said. she wasn't really born into money, and she was really far away from home, too. it was a very pretty c-gear, though. it was silver and had a sleeker design than the rest on the shelf; it was lightweight as well, and ikram honestly wished she could buy it for herself. "how long do you think i'll have to survive on moomoo milk and bread after buying this?" she mused, not willing to give it up just yet.
Florance laughed. "A month, tops, before your body starts to reject the scent of moomoo milk. Also, depends on your plans for the next few months." vertigo
that sounded bad. that sounded really bad. ikram gave the device one last look, before placing it back in the glass casing. "i'll ... go for something less pricey," she said, sighing quietly, and picked another one off its stand. it wasn't silver and definitely not nearly as nice as the one she had selected before, but at least it was significantly more affordable.
