This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

ikram paled slightly, but palmed the device in her hand. she gripped it decidedly. no death by moomoo milk today. she'd live to one day buy the silver c-gear she coveted. "this one will do," she said firmly, more to herself than to florance, and walked over to the checkout. she pulled out a few notes from her pocket and obtained a new c-gear.
she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear as she went back to florance. the device booted up after she inserted a chip into it, and ikram smiled at her own reflection on the screen. okay, how did this work.
"alright," she held it out to florance, smiling, "your number, if you will."
She smiled when Ikram decided on a c-gear, and followed her to the counter.
She pulled her hands out of her pockets, and typed in her number. "Uh, don't be afraid to call me or text me, not over this dollar thing. You seem pretty cool, I wouldn't mind being friends." She wouldn't.
"I probably won't be sticking around Proserpina City for much longer though, I have to take off for Nerio soon. I'm walking the journey though." God she wondered how long that would take her. vertigo
"dollar -- oh," ikram said in an exhale. it had completely slipped her mind in her desire to get a new gadget, but then again, it didn't really matter to her. many things didn't if one was someone like her. the girl smiled, and nodded as she hit the button to check florance's data. "gotcha. i'll text you, gutta keep in touch and stay alive in these times, right?"
she hoped she was saying the right thing. florance was rather nice though, and ikram didn't feel like she'd be easily offended.
"ah, nerio?" said ikram, her thoughts immediately going to the city and its underground activities. not the best place to be, but it was a great city standing strong before a mass of deserted towns and places. "i'm heading to ceres myself, because there's a lot of things for a ranger to learn around there ... good luck to both of us, though. it's so much walking!"
Florance was rarely offended by anything."What's the point in staying alive, if you're doing it all around, right?" Ikram seemed like a sweet girl, definitely someone that downright tough Florance wanted to be friends with.
"Do you happen to work for Eos by any chance? I'm an eos breeder." Ceres was actually a place she wanted to catch a few Pokemon in. She heard that it might be a good place to find amorphous and grass types. It was strange and still new to her, thinking of pokemon more as their breeding types and less as their actual types. vertigo
ikram perked up at the mention of eos. "yes!" said ikram, "i'm a ranger affiliated with the union, under sa'di." she wasn't sure why she was mentioning all these, but she supposed that more information couldn't hurt anyone. "it's cool that you're a breeder. i heard that's the only way you can get vaccines nowadays, barring official ones from eos. those are usually reserved for trainers who do most of the fighting, though."
she knew a lot of random trivia from god knows where. ikram often picked up little tidbits here and there, and stored them all away in her mind, ready to be called upon at a moment's notice. it was a funny little trait that she always liked about herself. "how's it like being a breeder? do you have a lot of cute pokémon?"
"Under Sa'di?" Florance could have sworn she remembered a Sa'di being mentioned in Juno, that she was a tough woman, and some beginner ranger was dreading meeting her, Florance respected that.
"Eos researchers can make vaccines. I wonder if they'll sell them cheaper than if you get them officially from Eos. Being a breeder is actually a lot more..." She searched for the word. "Rewarding, that's it. It's a lot more rewarding than being a trainer, which I was beforehand." Not a traveling trainer, a head chef, had tons of fire types trainer.
"Some of them are cute!" She released her shuppet and cottonee, as examples. "Some, not so much. I work with amorphous and grass groups. So I get a mixture of cute and not-so-cute." vertigo
it was impressive how florance seemed to have tried her hand at many different classes before settling on being a breeder. ikram, on the other hand ... being a ranger was her first job ever. she hadn't had much to do before. "if they even sell them in the first place," ikram pointed out, "but rangers don't have that many pokémon, so we're not in dire need of them."
she smiled, approaching the cottonee and shuppet as they emerged from the pokéball's light. "hello there," she greeted them, waving to the floating ghost-type and then at the puff of cotton. "oh?" ikram turned back to florance, blinking at the idea. "but they're all your pokémon, so they must be endearing."
"I'd figure there'd be some, somewhere. Being a researcher is a pretty popular thing." She smiled at the thought. "Being a ranger has to be nice though, you have to be really close to your partner, right?" Pokemon was something that she didn't act tough about. She showed her affection towards them pretty often.
The cottonee and shuppet made friendly noises, and smiled a bit. They were happy-go-lucky pokemon. "They are! It's just some of them are honestly, downright scary looking. I have a trevenant, which I really do like though." vertigo
"yeah," ikram said, "that's the idea of being a ranger. living hand-in-hand with nature and civilization, and protecting the region from the scourge. that's a shortened version of what we're supposed to do, by the way." the ranger sounded enthusiastic about her job path. it was pretty cool so far; she got to strap a watch-like device to her wrist and draw signs with it, she had a chimchar for a partner who was willing to cooperate, and now a new eos friend. things seemed to be going well.
"oh ..." ikram's excitement was dampened briefly at the idea of slightly less adorable pokémon, but she resumed her usual state quickly enough. "but if you think of them in a different way, they're cool. the amorphous class has ghosts in it, right? like your shuppet and trevenant."
