This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Considering the circumstances of her birth, it was a good question. The child of two rich parents, growing up with no knowledge of training, miraculously accepted into the Eos Program and plopped at the doorstep of the Cypress Laboratories. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Her goal was to eliminate Scourges to the best of her ability, but it seemed ridiculous. Ludicrous. Impossible. Why not let everyone else do the work?
But if everybody else thought that, too, nobody would be doing anything. Nemona Taiski's hand rested on the brass doorknob. And we'll all just stand by while all of the Pokemon in this world are snarling monsters. Zombies. Who would have guessed? It sounded like some kind of sick plot from a horror movie. Kohaku was just one, big horror movie. It was up to the members of the Eos Program to help out.
Twisting the doorknob, Nema's shadow crept into the room. Light breaths were audible as she peered around the room for a sign of life. "Um. Hello? I'm a trainer, accepted into the Eos Program?" Her voice rose in pitch at the end of each sentence, curling a statement into a question. Seriously, how did I even get here?
if it's any consolation to nema, cypress is probably the one guy in juno who's more jittery than she is. when the girl opened the door, he drops his entire stack of books to the ground with an incredibly loud THUMP.
the sound manages to disturb the entire cage of rattatas, and they screech obnoxiously against the cage.
"w-who?" the professor has seen better days, especially after the collapse of juno hospital. "oh! you're...you're the trainer who was scheduled to stop by today, aren't you?" he laughs rather nervously. "c-come in..."
a relaxed old alakazam walks up to her with a large case. he holds it up for nema to inspect.
"feel free to pick a pokemon from the case! you're going to...to be fighting the s-scourge, after all..." :storchic: :slapras: :sshinx: :ssunkern: :sabra: :spancham: :spineco: :swhismur: :snosepass: :scleffa: ?Lyrical
Startled, Nemona was jolted by the sound of a stack of books falling to the ground. Wincing at the noise that the Rattatas were screeching out, the girl stepped into the room, tentatively glancing around. Awkwardly, she stooped down to gather the fallen books in her hands and placed them on a nearby table. "Um. Yeah. That's me." she managed to say. Smooth, Nema, smooth, she inwardly chided herself.
"Thanks," Nema murmured and observed the choices laid out before her. All of them were vaccinated, of course, as she expected. A shudder ran through her spine at the mention of the Scourge. The word zombies played in her mind over and over again, like some broken CD record.
Before she knew what was happening, the girl had grabbed one of the Pokeballs and tapped the white button. With a flash of red light, a Shinx materialized from the capsule device. Blearily, the Shinx blinked and stared curiously up at the girl. Nema bent down to stroke his head, then quickly withdrew her hand as a small burst of static electricity came into contact with her. "This one, I guess." she told the professor, glancing up with pale green-tinted optics. She had no idea what she was doing, but he looked somewhat promising. Anyways, Shinxes are cute.
"then he's yours" whatever the trainer was going to pick, professor cypress wasn't about to voice any objections. "an excellent choice - i am sure that the two of you will get together swimmingly!" he had no evidence of that, but that's okay. the chances were high, as long as they were forced to stick together for their own survival.
cypress just kind of. stands there awkwardly before remembering that trainers got some...other items as well. he goes over to a dull grey container and pulls out a plastic case. inside of it contained a trainer card, five pokeballs, one potion, and one revive
he gives the case to the new trainer. "i...i wish you luck on your journey."
A small giggle escaped her lips as she rubbed the top of the Shinx's head. "You need a name. Um, Lightning?" That was a seriously cliche name, and apparently the Shinx thought so, because he vigorously shook his head. "Yeah, you're right. Malice?" Another shake of his head. "Balthazar?" Visibly brightening, the Shinx nodded. Pleased, Nemona repeated the name in her mind so she wouldn't forget. "Balthazar it is. I'm Nemona, Nema for short."
Pocketing the items the professor gave her and the Pokeball, the girl knelt down and scooped the electric Pokemon up in her arms. Balthazar scurried up her arm and sat back on his haunches on the girl's shoulders. She stood there awkwardly for a moment, then caughed to break the lengthening silence. "Yeah. Thanks. You too." she murmured, even though he wasn't going on a journey. Stepping out the door and closing it behind her, the girl glanced at the Shinx on her shoulder. "You ready?" The Shinx nodded. Nema nodded and turned to face the sun. "Good, because I'm not."
