This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Stars peppered the night sky in the Dream world, little scintillating specks against the darkening expanse. Slumping against the trunk of the Tree of Dreams, Nemona Taiski watched as the Pokeballs she had with her deactivated, resulting in a mass Pokemon outbreak. Balthazar, Colonel, Trixie, Hideki, Kibi, and Villa- the whole lot of them. The girl giggled while she watched the Pokemon exchange glances before running of to play. After all, they were all still young. Especially Kibi, the newborn Fletchling. The oldest was either Balthazar the Shinx or Colonel the Sandshrew. Either way, they were all the same to her. Young. Curious. Aspiring.
A list of simple joys in life would include watching Pokemon play while relaxing under the whispering leaves of the Tree of Dreams. The muted, faraway music of the Grand Bazaar drifted here, reaching everyone's ears before fading away. The heavy beating of small wings wasn't missed by Nema. "Try not to flap so hard." she instructed, as if she herself had the ability to fly and was now a flight instructor. "Try, like, gliding on air thermals. There's probably a lot around here." The young Fletchling continued to beat the air frantically, and the girl giggled. He'll learn at some point.
Was it possible to sleep in the Dream World? Was there a Dream World for the Dream World? Was there a Dream World for the Dream World for the Dream World? Questions bubbled out of her mind, and the only way to answer them was to experience them firsthand herself. Closing her eyes, Nema prepared herself to slip into the realm of dreams...
A bump shook her awake. Apparently, there wasn't a Dream World for the Dream World, or a Dream World for the Dream World for the Dream World for that matter. Even though it was possible to sleep. Yawning and stretching her arms, Nema felt the tremor again. She stood up and turned around to see Villa the Skiddo, bumping the tree that seemed to stretch its branches into infinity with her horns. Blinking her half-lidded eyes, the girl watched the Skiddo headbutt the Tree of Dreams over and over and over again. Each bump shook the tree somewhat, but Villa's efforts were seemingly futile.
"What's the matter, Vill?" she sleepily asked, rubbing her eyes in a fruitless attempt to jolt herself back into her awake and ready to rumble mode. It didn't work. The Skiddo grunted and gazed up at the extended branches of the tree, seemingly frustrated with something. "Holding a grudge against the tree?" she jokingly asked. The Skiddo shook her head and headbutted the tree again.
Finally looking up, Nema saw that there was something lodged between the leaves and branches of the Tree of Dreams. It was far away, though, and hard to see just what it was. Deciding to investigate, the girl glanced back at the hardworking Skiddo. Every bump shook the ocject, but it stubbornly refused to fall. Fine with her.
"Kibi, could you try getting that for us?" the girl asked the Fletchling, who was still practicing his flying. Following the general direction of her pointed finger, Kibi painstakingly winged his way upwards before pecking at the object. At once, the object fell to the ground with a thump. Dizzy with looking so high up, the girl and her Pokemon glanced at what was in front of them. An item? Money? Some poor Pokemon who was so surprised by Kibi that it fell to the ground and it now laid there, stunned, as the group huddled around it? The possibilities were endless.
Apparently, Millie Goldman had nodded off to sleep under the branches of a shady tree back in Prosperina City. It was only fitting that she dreamed about being under yet another tree. The tree of Dreams, to be exact.
As soon as her eyes opened and she saw the tree, the ranger's capture stylus deactivated. "Eh?" she uttered, rubbing her eyes and palming her dead device. >>Those kinds of things don't work in the Tree of Dreams.<< an amused Deino, Ethreal, informed her. He had been here time and time again, before Millie had picked him up at the Ranger's Union, and had watched enough confused dreamers at the Tree of Dreams to know how it worked. >>You might find something or someone here.<<
As if to prove his point, Lady materialized out of thin air. The Pokeassist must have fallen asleep later than the girl and the Deino. The snobby Mareep was somewhat placated by this tree. >>Well, it does look nice. she grudgingly allowed. That was saying something, because usually Lady would never enjoy any place but a huge palace with butlers and maids all cluttered inside.
>>Does this go up forever?<< Ethreal marveled, peering up towards the extended branches. There was no end in sight. "Let's find out." Millie decided, hopping onto a low tree branch. Early on in her childhood, she had climbed many a tree in Bacchus Town. The thought pained her, since her family was forced to move away after the Scourge overran it. That's why she became a ranger, anyways- to free her beloved hometown from those zombies. Fired by these thoughts, Millie pushed herself up onto another branch, waving to the Deino and Mareep below her. "Get up here, you guys."
Even at the Tree of Dreams, Lady had her limits. >>I'd rather not,<< the Mareep sniffed, slumping against the trunk of the tree and closing her eyes, feeling the cool grass, coated with morning dew, against her wool. Ethreal thought differently, though. Being a Deino, of course, he had never thought of climbing trees before. It looked easy enough, though. Bunching his haunches and leaping, the Deino managed to cling onto the branch that Millie had been on just a few moments ago. The ranger sat on a branch several feet above him, her legs swinging in the air, with no fear of falling and slamming hard into the ground. She grinned down at the Deino, who was slowly catching up to her. "Ready to climb to the top?"
Of course, it was impossible. There was no top to begin with. There was only a tree, extending its branches to touch the moon and stars. For twenty minutes, Millie and Ethreal climbed as far up as they possibly could. When the branches began to grow thin and sparse, both stopped on the same branch. Down below, the sleeping Mareep was only a pink spot on the ground. "We should be heading back, now, Eth." she told her Deino. "Back to reality." With that, both ranger and partner Pokemon slowly made their way back down.
