This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Apparently you have to book gym leader challenge times due to popularity…that just wouldn’t do. Courtney found herself dancing among library isles, a swan amid the books, chased by the hunter - a lone security guard.
She had come out of hours, earlier they told Courtney she would have to return the next day, a few pacing hours had left her more anticipating than ever. She HAD to fight him. After around 10 minutes of darting Courtney found herself inside of an elevator somewhere in the museum, it was cold, she distinctly remembered how claustrophobic and warm they usually were…but this, it just seemed lonely, empty even. Then B4.
In all honesty she couldn’t make out anything, the room was so dark, Courtney would focus on something then it would just be a trick of the small amount of light that seeped in through some unknown gap or window.
jasper's voice rang out in the gym. as he spoke, the lights in the gym sprang to life, casting shadows and lighting across the arena. jasper was at the other end of the room, grinning as he waved enthusiastically at courtney. "welcome to the proserpina gym!" he said, the grin still on his face. "i think you might already know, but i'm jasper, at any rate. it's nice to meet you, trainer!"
he fiddled with a pokéball he unclasped from his belt, glancing from the woman to the field. "if you're ready, then here we go! i wonder what pokémon you've been training!" he grinned excitedly. a gym challenger was always a fantastic way to start the day.
Sand shifted into her shoes. All along Courtney had been stood in the arena at the end of that lonely elevator – grains itching away at her feet. Thrusting her heels off, sand scattered lightly as the pair landed a few feet away. With a jolt of excitement she turned back to her new opponent and within a few more moments her Pokemon were out of their balls, shuffling, anticipating, on their side of the arena. Smiling, Courtney winked and waved.
oh, so this trainer didn't want to reveal her name. never mind, that was completely fine! grinning, jasper nodded. "we'll see about that!" he said enthusiastically, "cool, a smoochum. you have an ivysaur too!" jasper was sincerely excited to see this match unfold.
"this match goes like this: single battles, two pokémon each! may the best fighter win!"
he retrieved his pokéball and revealed the pokémon within. a shieldon emerged from the light, tossing its head about as it sniffed the air eagerly. "this is peridot, my shieldon!" jasper said, proud of the creature he had raised from a fossil. or rather, resurrected from one. "peridot, let's give this our best shot! use stealth rock to form a barrier around the arena, then let's wait for the lady to make a move!"
peridot did as it was instructed. jasper grinned, and brushed his nose with his thumb confidently.
Beckoning to her Smoochum, Courtney’s little blonde miniature was soon poking its eyes out from behind her leg, anticipating the Ivysaur that would lead the way to their first gym victory. It stared directly at it’s opponent, also a small reptile type Pokemon, a Sheildon, yet the Ivysaur had a size advantage of maybe a half metre or so. With red eyes glowering it let out a sharp SAUR, as if to alert Courtney that he was ready.
“Little Bro, first use your Vine Whip to batter those rocks out of the way!”
The Ivysaur stormed forward, closing the gap on the foe while battling against the floating boulders in its path, being careful not to scratch itself. It was now placed just a few feet from the Sheildon.
“Now use GrassWhistle!”
A beautiful melody filled the air, fresh, yet sweet and pleasant in tone; the Sheildon was directly in the way.

for Grasswhistle (If <55 your Pokemon is now asleep)
the grasswhistle had started to take effect on peridot, but jasper quickly realized it and yelled at his pokémon. "peridot, watch out! it's trying to make you fall asleep!" the shieldon shook its head, and snapped out of it, decidedly ignoring the melody that was coming from the ivysaur. "be careful of the ivysaur, okay? we don't know what it can do, but it sure makes this battle more exciting!" jasper grinned and nodded at the challenger.
"alright, let's attack now!" the gym leader announced, "taunt the ivysaur, then use rock slide on it!" peridot did as it was told, immediately starting to taunt and tease the ivysaur about its size, and how it was going to evolve into an ugly wartface. the shieldon then summoned rocks that crashed towards its opponent.
He wasn’t going to be a wartface. He would be brave, valiant; a face that would appear on the billboards of the world, everyone would stop and stare for just a glimpse at his ruby eyes. His rafflesia; the centrepieces of primetime television, Kohaku’s brightest new star, wearing the hottest fashions highlighted by the smile that everyone dreamed of.
A sex symbol. Every woman would tear off her clothes to rub against the green skin. A baritone voice, perfect for Shakespearean theatre; then he would transfer to the silver screen and earn more awards than years in his life.
But then the rumours would start! Drugs. Was he with this woman, or that one? Didn’t she used to be a stripper? And that one used to be with- the magazines would tear apart his personal life apart, his family life. Covering up the face of his newborn wouldn’t be good enough, they would always want more. Anything for more. And it would all start with this. Wartface.
He began using Take Down, narrowly avoiding the Rock Slide, kicking up a storm of dust in his track, it was unclear whether he struck the Sheildon or not.
"okay, peridot! it's fine even if the ivysaur avoids our rock slide," jasper said, cheering his pokémon on. "you're doing a great job too, ivysaur! that was an narrow dodge, but it was really cool!" jasper pumped his fist in the air as he followed up his statements with an order to the shieldon.
"alright, let's see what we can do now. dodge the take down, then tackle it!" jasper yelled, before watching his pokémon act in the arena.
the shieldon barrel-rolled away from the take down atatck, before picking itself up. it didn't take long for the creature to carry itself towards courtney's ivysaur, covering a surprising amount of distance despite its stubby little feet. it then tried to ram into the ivysaur for a tackle attack.
Once the mist of dust rose it was obvious that the Take Down just narrowly missed; so close yet so far. Courtney was somewhat relieved after the Ivysaur’s rash offensive - now it wouldn’t take the damage from recoil. Within her sigh of relief another attack was launched, from the Sheildon’s corner this time. The tackle shunted the Ivysaur maybe half a metre, it winced slightly but the size advantage began to show as Courtney prepared to sing her next song.
“Hey! I know you’re mad but you have to snap out of it silly!”
With deadly accuracy it swiped out it’s vines at the little dinosaur, ready to grab and toss; eyes more blood-red than ever.

(took Tackle, using Vine Whip, Taunt still active for another turn)
"oww!" jasper said in tandem with his shieldon's cry after being lashed by the vines. peridot was still very much in the game, though. "peridot!" the gym leader called to his pokémon, "don't worry about it, we're still in the fight!"
the gym leader watched peridot pick itself up from the ground. its shield face steeled for a moment before the creature let out a metallic shriek. "yeah! good job with that metal sound!" jasper was excited to see his pokémon act upon its own volition.
"okay, now let's go for it again with a rock slide!!"
rocks appeared from the skies and started raining down upon ivysaur at a flick of peridot's head.
Courtney grabbed at her ears, almost clawing out her eardrums with a set of sharp nails. Sounds were rarely bad, life was full of music and voices – this however sounded like claws down a blackboard, metallic, almost like a woman’s last scream before death. So harsh it made nausea form in her stomach.
The Ivysaur winced, pain rolling through it’s ears and all the way back into it’s spine, gagging as if the sound were a gas blocking anything in the room from breathing.
Pant. Pant. It was awful; the sound winded him. Pant Pant.
Boulder’s began falling from the sky. It was almost like time began to slow down, he dragged himself out of the rocks path just in time as they crashed in the middle of the arena. Shaking his head he built up to a tackle, directly at the Sheildon. Head on.

(Metal Sound hit, Rock Slide dodged, used Tackle, Taunt ends next turn)
"peridot!" jasper yelled as the ivysaur rammed into the shieldon. peridot squeaked as the heavy weight of the ivysaur bore down upon it, and the shieldon quickly got up from its fallen stance to attack the grass-type again. this time, it didn't put too much effort into setting up a defensive barrier. it went straight for the offensive as soon as jasper's orders sounded -- "peridot, an eye for an eye! tackle, go!"
The Tackle slammed into the Sheildon, but there was no time to celebrate as the opponent was bolting in retaliation. There was no time to dodge either. The Ivysaur built up to another Tackle and the two Pokemon were in a crash course to strike at the same time.
Courtney prayed, as time almost seemed to slow; this Sheildon needed to go down. It had to. They had to win. The Smoochum ducked it’s head in anticipation as the two were in mere seconds of each other.

(The Sheildon and Ivysaur are both using Tackle, head on into each other)
peridot allowed itself to take the ivysaur's tackle at the cost of dealing some damage of its own. the shieldron shrugged off the blow easily enough, wheeling around to tilt its head and smirk confidently at the ivysaur.
'hey you,' its expression seemed to say. it then opened its mouth, and out came a torrent of taunting. wartface, i suggest you stop trying, said the shieldon, your tackles are never going to be able to take me down. even if you consider a career in something else other than gym battles, you would never be able to achieve anything great.
No. No I will be able to achieve something great. Maybe not now but the future is full of possibilities, I could become celebrated, and I can be anything I want to be as long as I try. Clearing his mind and believing in himself worked, ignoring the taunt and living another few minutes without rage. Unfortunately this was short-lived as the Ivysaur was thrown half way across the arena into the sand directly in front of it’s trainer.
He tried so hard to stand up, grumbling a shaking in pain, but the Sheildon must be close to being taken down too. It cost a good 300 bucks but now was the time for it. Courtney rustled through her handbag, wrenching out the Super Potion to spray the Ivysaur with.
In a heavy shower the Ivysaur was strongly back on it’s feet. They were so close. SO close. He would not lose; this would be his final showdown. He stood proudly, facing the Sheildon’s scrutiny.
