This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.

The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"okay mile." grayson crouched down to look at the snivy at eye-level. should they do agility? i mean the grass type was going to become (basically) an amputee when he evolved fully anyway, and would just slither everywhere. "let's work on power then." there were targets set up around the room, typically used for aim. "use vine whip on the targets, as hard as you can. if you break them, we aren't paying for them anyway so feel free."
mile nodded quickly, turning to lash at the coloured targets with vines a blazin'. two cracked at some point, but mile decided to rob grayson's pockets of treats afterwards. training was done, for all purposes.

"growth, then leaf tornado!" mile jumped forward, body growing green before launching a whirling tornado of razor sharp leaves at a target. there was a blur of green before it cleared, and the target was ripped to shreds. "wow, great job, mile. we're making great progress on that attack stat."
mile seemed to preen, his tail flicking to and fro. "let's do a few tackle on the punching bag. build up some stamina and whatnot. you know." with that, the servine hurtled towards another target as fast as possible on his stubby little legs. it was almost funny to watch.
grayson would never laugh at his pokemon, no of course not.

grayson had brought mile and quirk today. they waddled around for a little while, happy and just running in circles. well, they might as well work on speed or something. "run laps. run run run run run laps okay. just run a lot. in circles. around the track. as fast as you can."
mile tripped. quirk fell on her beak. grayson facepalmed.
mile waddled at a quick pace. quirk cheeped, sat down, and cried.

okay. mile was seriously close to evolving, and grayson was damn going to make it happen. he brought along tic, the shuppet was just a baby but ready for training. that was what the scourge had brought to the world of training. "mile, practice attacking. tic, watch carefully and use ominous wind on the targets."
they did as they were told. it was a good day. i am so tired.

grayson looked down at puff and slin. the whimsicott was dutifully practicing its grasswhistle, and slin was getting sleepy. he gave the cloyster a pat, waking him up. "let's try a voice match. screech vs grasswhistle."
the two were at it immediately. "good job, kids. now let's actually try some training." slin practiced his mud shot accuracy, while puff worked on the power of her moonblast. king realizes that he mixed up the two pokemon's genders. ohwell. the two are working hard.

scarlette looked down at the cyndaquil. they were new to each other, and she crouched down to be at eye level. the pokemon looked unimpressed.
"fine. tackle on the targets. ember at the ones that are moving." the pokemon followed suit as scarlette watched. she took notes, writing down the progress for the day.
in the back of her mind, she was absentmindedly thinking about what to make for lunch. she had been in the mood for watermelon for a while, and didn't know what nova liked to eat yet. maybe the little fire type would be a fan of fruit.

luke looked around. it looked like a training field, and ryn was here with him. well, dreams seemed pretty straight forward here. "confusion on the obstacles." he watched as the little ralts raised the cones into the air, playing around with them by mock juggling. "right. uh. okay. keep it up." he felt awkward, he had never really interacted with pokemon. he had a pet electrike like many other kids, but besides that he was clueless. his had never even evolved because they simply didn't battle.
it just got fat.
grayson, meanwhile, knew what he was doing a little better. he was no trainer, but he was around for long enough now. his cloyster was practicing aim with spike cannon, smashing through targets set up with the massive spikes. kraq meanwhile was doing an aerial obstacle course. he sped around the different hanging targets, moving ones that he demolished with flamethrower. the salamence evaded things thrown at him, ending with a triumphant dragon pulse.

knowing what he was doing a little better now, luke seemed more confident. "okay ryn. confusion on the cones, hit them into the wall as hard as you can." the little ralts complied, arms raised in the air in concentration. the first few cones doinked off the edge, but soon they started building power. the final one bounced off and landed several metres away.
"yeah!" he grabbed the ralts and twirled her in the air, grinning. "that's how we won our first badge."
