This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Neo took a small nibble from the grilled cheese sandwich. She set it down and didn't touch it again. Ever. (To Batin's credit, she assumed the sandwich's defects were the Land of Nightmares' fault, as opposed to Batin being the worst cook known to man.)
She was too focused on the cloning apparatus to bother throwing the grilled cheese at Batin too. Besides, throwing objects at him had started losing its appeal.
"Slowly," she answered.
"Sandwich sucks," she added. "I should call you a bad cook."

"I'm not sure I want to strip down and shower in front of a sentient land." She scowled at the sudden appearance of the shower, and she considered her options. She could stay drenched in blood forever and ever, or she could try to do something about it.
"Nor you. Get out. I'm showering. Maybe find me something new to wear."
She stepped into the shower. Its sliding glass doors not exactly inspiring of privacy. The blood made her skin crawl though, so she wasn't going to complain too much about a chance to rinse clean.
The water was blistering hot and crystal clear, yet something about it felt unclean. Still. It was better than the blood, which now pooled in the drain, coalescing red like a particularly poor piece of modern art..

He had a flannel shirt that was a bit small on him, which probably meant it could function as a long evening gown for Neo. He debated giving her a belt.
...she might try to strangle him with it. No belt then.
Batin stepped back inside, very obviously not looking in the direction of the shower, shirt folded over his arm.
What to do with a swarm of eelektrosses appear in the shower like the start of a very concerning japanese porno. Repeat: very concerning.
Neo screamed like the dickens.

The shower doors cracked before splintering and shattering as she fled the shower. She sped over to Batin--tried to keep her back to him, although streaking in front of him was the least of her concerns--grabbed the shirt, and wrapped it around herself. It was a suitable robe.

She stopped screaming. She was still hyperventilating. Also, crying again.
"Minerva," she said, because she recognized the lucario. It wasn't Heron. She pointed a shaking finger at the shower filled with eel lashes. "Fusion bolt."

Perhaps it was because the eelektrosses weren't scourge, but the clone sprang into action.
She leapt forward and severed them in two with a stone edge. Before the eel pokemon could even start flopping, she'd cauterized the edges with a fusion bolt. Whatever else, Minerva was obviously up to date on her classical mythology.
"Quick thinking," Batin said to her. "Very nice."
< I fight, > the Lucario shrugged, blasting her thoughts to everyone in the room. < I win. >
Batin turned back to Neo. "They're gone," he said, before looking over his shoulder a the corpses. "They're dead, at least. It would be nice if they were gone. Are you okay?"

Not very okay then. Could have been worse. At least she wasn't catatonic.
At least he hoped she wasn't catatonic.
"You try talking to her," he told Minerva. "I'm certain she doesn't want to speak to me of all people, and I'm not dropping her off anywhere like this."
