This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

it's funny, how this beautiful stream is far more poisonous and deadly to the two of them than decima city ever was. it is a dangerous world that they wish to destroy, but physis cannot help but find it to be deceptively calming.
the calm doesn't last. the storm is here to stay.
lvl: ??? (scales)
[ this is a special event. when froslass reaches half health, a dice will be rolled each turn for instant permadeath. this only applies for turns in which she recieves damage ]
"People like you and pokemon like her shouldn't really hang around here," Griff said. It would've been idle small talk, but he drew the entei sign in the air.
physis doesn't make small talk. physis is here to take advantage of the scourgification of ceres forest, which meant that this ranger was the one who probably shouldn't be here.
froslass dodges entei sign froslass dodges leech seed froslass is hit by poison sting froslass is hit by ember

Her first encounter with scourge, and it wasn't even her encounter -- she heard the voices, the sound of battle, and took one glance at the froslass before hopping in.
Sinclair probably should have been vaguely concerned about interfering in someone else's battle, but those things belonged in Ceres as much as a swanna belonged with a school of feebas.
sinclair released drifloon (13) sinclair analyzes froslass HELL YEAH drifloon used tailwind

"Hey, stranger," he said. Griff glanced over at her, and maybe he should've said hey, beautiful instead. Oh, well. There were other priorities. "Glad to have you."

froslass uses blizzard on drifloon and roserade (acc penalty)
(guys ur gonna knock her out before i even get to these rolls...)
eewyQXZ0 <50 falls into the amberwell physis draws ho-oh sign - sacred fire on the roserade
"Uh," Griff says as his roserade screeches and convulses.
roserade dodges sacred fire and blizzard misses roserade has hit its infection check limit! scourge roserade!
"Shit," he elaborates.
charmeleon uses tackle on roserade into the amberwell ...charmeleon uses splash?
With the roserade (hopefully) taken care of, Griff gets moving. The Amberwell enjoys itself a nice meal on the scourge, but he's more concerned about the agent. The one that shouldn't have been here in the first place.
It's hard to truly cut off anyone's path in a clearing such as this, but Griff circles around to face Physis. "Agent without a partner. What happens now?"
the froslass fell into the amberwell and didn't seem to be getting back up, which she figured was a good thing. the less good thing was the roserade.
sinclair hastily analyzed scourge roserade, aka she jumped in next to the charmander and happily pushed it into the amberwell while shoving her pokedex in its face. idk how you get closer examination than that, considering it was kind of burning into kentucky fried scourge.
assuming i roll for infection check now, and now that the battle is over (??)
mryhQxjN <80 for noibat. <70 for drifloon. i think.
oh, shit. her pokemon started convulsing. she glanced at griff. "you have a weapon?" she asked, before looking back at her pokemon. "kill her." disregarding the fact that physis was standing right there, of course.
sinclair splashed the pokemon with the amberwell water, eliciting a pained shriek from both, before popping them both into a virus balls. she'll look at them later.
physis, on the other hand -- the woman casually pulled a knife from the sheath strapped to her side, shrugging. "... still dangerous." nothing too personal.
physis is in disbelief. why isn't fantine doing anything? why isn't a blizzard overwhelming their enemies? why isn't she going into bloodrage, why isn't she rising from the ashes?
shit, this battle is over. they're leaving, they have to leave before more ceres rangers arrive-- her hands are shaking, why are her hands shaking? it's only a job, only a simple job to be taken care of within an afternoon.
physis clenches her teeth and draws the dragon sign - protect as she starts running towards the froslass, like always. she tries to ignore the burning sensation in her legs as the amberwell water soaks through her pant legs.
she's almost there, she's going to make it. she's going to be alright, they're both going to be alright. physis reaches out for her arm -
the froslass doesn't even have the energy to wail as she dissolves into the water. her partner grabs her by the hand, but within seconds, that hand becomes inseparable with the water of the amberwell.
if fantine didn't have the chance to scream, physis certainly does as she burns.
The cops would throw him to the wolves or worse if they caught him with a weapon, Griff was pretty sure.
"No weapons," he said, hands up in the air--empty. "Don't need one though."
He drew a sign in the air, his gesture smooth and with all the confidence of a concert pianist--or the finest child pickpocket in Nerio. It should've been entei for fire, but instead he drew darkrai.
zebEvXc9 < 80 sleep
"Let her sleep. A painless death is more than she deserves," he said, low and quiet. Maybe he spoke to Physis, or perhaps to Sinclair, or to no one at all. It didn't matter much in the end.
He didn't move though, still blocking off the easiest path away from the well. Shyvana had already ran for the other side of the clearing in the glade. They couldn't actually block off all escape routes, but they could damn well try.
"The pretty girl here going to kill you," Griff told Physis with a grin that wasn't entirely nice. It wasn't nice at all, really. "I'd run, if I were you. Not sure you can run fast enough though."
Sinclair watched him draw the sign, and she couldn't help but agree. Being able to draw signs like that certainly came in handy, didn't it? The woman didn't let go of her knife, though (and Arceus, where was her gun when she needed it?) and simply stared at Physis' attempts to save the sizzling Froslass.
The woman's screams meant nothing to her.
She would have smiled, if smiling was something she did, because Griff wasn't wrong; she would kill Physis, preferably sooner rather than later, and already she was taking a step forward.
there's nothing here for her. there's nothing left for her to salvage. physis drills the facts into her head. there's nothing that can be done for her partner.
the ranger sign dissapates around the dragon sign's protection. protection, as if that did her any good (it didn't).
