alex walked along the aisles of books, towering over him like fortresses. he trailed his finger along the spines of books, stopping when he reached the science and research section.

one of the books seemed slightly misplaced. alex took it out and dumped it on the floor, kicking it aside. a helpful growlithe trotted over to take the book and return it to it's correct location. meanwhile, the teen took out a random book, plopping into a nearby chair. he flicked through the pages, thumbing them and reveling in the papery noise of each page. 

he had an appointment with an old acquaintance. hopefully she wouldn't stand him up.

She didn't stand him up, although she would be the first to admit that she'd lost track of time. She'd lost track of pretty much everything over the last few hours, her soul immersed in a panoply of secrets and solutions. These shelves held the answer to everything.

She saw Alex at the table, smiled almost warmly, and approached him.

"I thought I heard someone here. I should've known it was you. Am I late? I lost myself back there, for a while, with all those lost things," Methuselah said.

"It's good to see that you are well, Alex."

alex returned the warm smile, gesturing to a seat beside him. "please, take a seat."

he didn't really need to catch up. methuselah lived in the land of nightmares, and only so much could happen in there. "so, methuselah. tell me what you know about darkrai's nightmares."

Methuselah sat down across from him. "Darkrai's nightmares are a person's own nightmares. It possesses a magnetism that draws dreamers out of the Dream World and into the Land of Nightmares. It traps sleepers, like a black hole or a spider with a web. Once they're brought here, Darkrai exposes the shadows of a soul, but in the end, the nightmare is created by the dreamer, not the pokemon or even the Land."

She folded her hands in her lap, smiled like she was sharing a secret. "Have you been suffering from nightmares lately, Alex?"
