This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Nix knew she was not a normal girl and she had never been on to hide it, but there was something here she liked. Well, she thought she knew what but best to try it. Nix had always found, rather oddly, she was drawn to either Dark or Psychic pokemon. The later seemed more interesting to her but the former were just a wonder to her too, they both were good to her. She had heard in passing words that people had come down here, mediums they were called she thought. She knew that word, it was typed with Psychic pokemon and so she hoped to happen across some one down here that she could talk to about them. She had minx on her team and while she did like the pokemon a lot, she also knew exactly the one she really would have loved to have on her team and she also wanted to learn how to really train them. Though her travels down to the lake found her looking at no-one, though the water all the way down here was a wonderful sight to behold
There was a darkness in the caverns that Griff enjoyed, even with Shyvana's light bouncing off the walls. It felt like the night, a time where good men stayed home and others came out to play. Griff knew it was dangerous in caves, especially after the last scourge attack, but there still comfort in the darkness for him. It was where people like him belonged--out of sight.
"Didn't think I'd see anyone here," Griff said. He coughed loudly, just to announce his presence in case Nix didn't notice him. He smiled, waved a little awkwardly, one stranger to another. This was how people behaved when first meeting each other, right? "Hi."
Beside him, his charmeleon Shyvana also waved. Unlike Griff, she was naturally cheerful and upbeat (she had to be if she was brave enough fight the scourge head on as a ranger's partner). @nixnight
Nix paused at the edge of the lake and bent down to look in to its waters, thinking for a moment if she should call out misty to have a little swim when a voice slipped in to her thoughts and she started. She tipped forwards before she forced her knees apart and fell suddenly backwards with a thump, though it was better than landing in the lake in front of her. She turned to see a male walking through the cave, not far from her, with a pokemon following close behind him. Both creatures waved and nix lifted a hand to wave back before she noted the little drip of blood escaping her newly cut palm, "oh poliwag piss" she hissed at herself as she moved her hand to see what she had done. Good start, not even replying to the more freindly comment she had been offered
Griff saw the blood on her hand before she did. It was hard to miss; when she waved at him, all he noticed was that her hand was sliced open.
Poliwag piss was right. Shyvana ran up towards Nix, and the charmander's concern was obvious in her cries.
Griff was slower to approach, more paranoid. An injured girl in the dark could be the bait for muggers and thieves in the city, for those that liked to prey on good samaritans. Shyvana could always spew fire at anyone threatened her, which made her fearless. Griff could handle himself too, but he wasn't as willing to run into a trap.
She seemed genuinely hurt though.
"Are you alright? There's a ranger outpost nearby. There's a healer there--"
What the hell was he saying? Griff could heal a minor cut like that himself. He didn't even need sutures and stitches. Just drawing a ranger sign would do. (Maybe two ranger signs if the cut was deeper than it looked.)
"Well, I'm a ranger. I can draw a sign for that, if you don't mind?" He offered, extending a hand. @nixnight
Nix moved her hand to her side and flicked away some of the dirt around it with her other hand before she suddenly became very aware the fire type was now closer to her and loking at her in concern, "A friendly one then" nix said with a little smile as she glanced up at the pokemon before she tried to look to see where the pokemon trainer was. he was hanging back a little but seemed to warm and come closer after a little moment but nix's hand was now throbbing as the blood reached it and she pulled it close to her side. That stung! The male spoke and nix found herself rolling her eyes playfully at his words, "I dont think its going to kill me, its just a surface wound, some cloth and a little water should fix it right up" she said with a smirk to herself. The next part came as a little shock to her and she turned to look at him with wonder in her eyes, she had heard about rangers! Her home region didnt have them so she hadnt known of them when she was younger but they sounded fascinating here, but still. "No, it just needs cleaning. I wouldnt want you to put yourself out" she said in a sweet voice with a little nod, no need for him to help her, he didnt even know her
"Yeah, she's not going to bite--unless you're scourge," Griff said. Usually, it'd go without saying, but charmeleons sometimes had a bad reputation for being less than nice. Shyvana was a sweetheart to humans though. Griff grinned, "But you don't seem like scourge."
He still kept a respectable distance, but Shyvana was beside Nix, still worried. Griff wasn't so sure why the blood bothered her that much. Bad memories from the scourge attack, he assumed. He'd never talked about it with her, and his understanding of pokemon speech wasn't good enough to talk meaningfully about it either.
"It's not really any trouble." Griff thought about pushing the point. Now that he was closer, it was clear that the cut was shallow. She should be alright. "Are you scared of signs? Some people are. I got weirded out by them at first myself."
nix smiled as the male spoke about his pokemon and she chuckled a little as he finsihed, "Sounds a lot like a freind of mine, pity shes not on my team at the moment" she said with a little frown as she thought about her sister but the male was speaking again and so she turned to look at him. She thought of shadow often when she met new pokemon and it always stung her heart a little to think of her but just distracting her mind tended to fix that issue, in the short term of course. She shook her head as he spoke before she tilted it when he finished, "Scared of them? Really? Well i know im not, i just dont see the bother in something like that when all i needs is a wash and a little time to heal. Being scared of something that helps you just seems silly" she said as she thought the matter over out loud. On that note she turned round and leaned over the pool of water with her bleeding hand out and her free hand ready to wash it over, though cold water always stung an open wound
For a second, Griff thought she meant a human friend--that she just happened to make battle for her like a pokemon. There were thugs and mercenaries that made a living doing just that, but Nix didn't look like the sort of person to hang out with those sorts of people.
"A pokemon friend?" he asked just to confirm. "I'm sorry you lost her."
Most people in Kohaku had lost pokemon ever since the scourge hit. Most people knew that pain. Griff couldn't say he did. He'd had pokemon who were friends or at least co-workers. There were plenty of pokemon that worked in crime, both for a trainer or just for themselves. He'd known plenty, but he'd never known them well.
At the talk of signs, Griff laughed. "Yeah. Some people think it's a little weird if I wave my hand and fire comes out. It's like magic, and I guess not everyone likes magic tricks."
Nix did flinch as the cold water washed over her hand but it was a good pain, she could see the water turning brown and then going red as she washed the dirt and blood free before she nodded to herself. She leaned back as the male spoke again and her frown returned at the thought of shadow, "Yea, she was kinda a sister to me. Its a complex thing, feral upbringing and a nasty storm" she said in reply to his question about her "freind". Ever since she landed in this place she had wanted to help get rid of the pokemon who plagued it and yet part of her was always terrified she would find her sister turned and be forced to take her down, she so hoped that day never came. Her smile came back as he topic changed and she wondered for a moment if magical powers was something she wanted to see and then her normal mind snapped back in and said that was selfish, ranger had what they had to help people and not just for showing off
He was still hesitant to touch a stranger. It was... rude. A little too personal for his tastes, especially in a place like this.
But it didn't look like she had bandages, and although she seemed fine (she probably was fine), Di Manes would be a bad place to get an infected wound. "Here," he said, and Griff drew a fairy sign in the darkness, his fingertips glowing with a radiant moonlight. In this weather, it wasn't much of a heal that he could provide, but it was better than nothing.
"A storm? She's not dead then? I hope you find her again." @nixnight
Nix turned her head as the ranger moved closer to her and she watched in wonder as he seemed to do something and glowed with a light she thought was wonderful, her eyes watched him carefully and then the stinging in her hand seemed to ease. Not stop, but it was less painful. He spoke again and she frowned and lowered her gaze before she spoke up softly, "I hope i find her too" she said in a low voice. She hoped she found her alive and well but she was starting to lose hope of that, as hard as she tried to keep close to it but it seemed to slip away from her
Hope was the most they had in these times. If the storm itself hadn't killed the pokemon, there was the scourge to worry about too. If it was alive, its best chance was as part of the scourge.
He wasn't going to say that out loud though. For some people, all they had left was hope.
"Shyvana, come on," Griff said, pulling the charmeleon away. "We should get going. We got to get to Nerio, remember?"
The charmeleon rejoined him at his side. "I'm Griff, by the way." Ending of an introduction. Well, better late than never. "I should go, but what species was--is--your friend? Maybe I'll spot her around."
Nix looked up at the male called his pokemon back to his side and she found herself a little unhappy to see him leaving but other people had place to see, she was just wandering. "Nice to meet you, I'm Nix" she said with a nod as he gave her his name before she picked up on his word use, was. "Her name is shadow, she was an eevee when i lost her and im hoping she will still be one when i find her" she said with a firmer voice and a hard look. Saying it made her feel better, she was her sister and she would find her and she would not give up. Meeting this ranger had given her that hope again and she was not about to throw it away and give up, "good luck on your trip, maybe i'll see you around some time" she said with a small smile as she lifted herself to her feet and glanced around the cave for where the male would be walking out
