This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

rhea stumbled into the clearing of the amber glade, not quite sure what she'd find. hopefully some signs of recovery-- that was the goal here. to try and figure out if the amberwell was recovering or to see if it was getting worse. she certainly hoped the former was occuring here.
lucky the newly evolved chansey cockily strode into the place afterwards, rubbing her tummy. she had just stocked up on some berries and now she was ready for battle. the ceres assist, which rhea had half-heartedly dubbed "jupitol the wise," walked along the tree tops. he was slightly more cautious, but still didn't look for any scourge. Crash

There were two things Dan remembered being told by a senior officer. Don't go it alone, and don't be ashamed to run away.
The second wouldn't be a problem at all. The strange "hummingbird" by his side would've been a huge help there. Dan had surveyed its potential after calling it in with his PokeAssist, and its Whirlwinds and Tailwinds would be essential for helping pick the group's battles. The first piece of the advice, on the other hand . . .
Well, at least Dan had Ambrose. The crab clacked its claws eagerly, glad it finally had a chance to give the Scourge a piece of its mind. It was time for the crab's first in-field battle, and couldn't wait.
As the motley crew advanced, Dan noticed a trainer up ahead. Friend? Foe? He wasn't sure, but he knew he had to keep an eye out just in case. Whether they were a fellow Ranger or, god forbid, an Agent could mean the difference between life and death.
lucky and jupitol stared at dan and his pokemon. they started jabbering amongst themselves. "who's that?" jupitol the wise muttered. lucky the foolish murmured back: "i don't know, but that krabby smells so bad."
rhea snapped and they shut up, curling away embarrassedly. she whipped a lock of hair from her face. she called out. "that thing isn't vaccinated, you know." Crash

Lucky had the bad luck of insulting Ambrose of all people. The smartass Krabby smirked and began waving a single claw in his direction, as if trying to waft any odor he may or may not have possessed right at the Chansey.
Dan, meanwhile, found himself relieved. A Hades agent wouldn't have warned him about an unvaccinated Pokemon unless they were really, really dense. "I know," he responded. "He's just escorting us to the Caves. As soon as we're there he's getting vaccinated." That said, the girl did have a good point. If this little scouting mission went wrong, and Ambrose wasn't able to come to the "bird"'s defense in time . . .
"Things being kept under control here?" he asked, perfectly ready to come to the Amberwell's defense if the situation still needed it.
"escorting you," she repeats, "to the cave." rhea raises her eyebrows. "isn't that why you have a partner pokemon?" she grumbles, glancing at chansey. "they keep you safe, and you keep them safe."
"these kind assist pokemon are for emergencies-- or fighting scourge." she sighed. "and no, things aren't really very good here, unfortunately."
chansey frowned at krabby and put her hands on her hips. "i'll make you into chowder." she said, smirk on her face. Crash

"She knows the land better than I do, and she has a lot of tricks for helping escape a direct confrontation," he remarked, cursing himself for not having much of a chance to survey the Amber Glade. It was, after all, rather tricky to navigate. "Still, you're right. I'll try to call on my assists more reasonably in the future." He shot the Sigilyph a brief, worried look, the bird nodding as if to assure him she as fine.
"If the situation's still bad, of course, I can join the fight once I get her vaccinated."
Ambrose grinned cockily at the Chansey, finally opening his mouth for once. "Egg drop soup," he muttered, snickering a little.
rhea sighed and contemplated giving him a vaccine-- she was wise enough to know that he wasn't going to be able to get through here without dealing with any scourge. especially with that crab stench and an unvaccinated pokemon. who knows what would happen to them, she thinks.
so rhea gently pulls the vaccine out of her pocket and offers it to him. "if you want it, take it." she doesn't look at him, instead focusing on the forest, her arm still outstretched.
Dan's look of surprise quickly gave way to a grateful grin as he accepted the medicine. "Really? Thank you so much!" He turned to the Sigilyph, spraying the vaccine and watching as blue and yellow turned orange and green. While usually rather stoic, the Sigilyph seemed especially bouncy and cheerful post-vaccination.
Ambrose simply backed away from the Chansey, snickering. Dan turned to him, a bit of exasperation in his voice as he asked "Play nice, Ambrose. They're friendly, okay?" He looked into the distance, as if checking for any Scourge activity. "Besides, if you make too much noise we might end up attracting something that isn't."
Ambrose sighed, glowering at the Chansey but reluctantly walking back over to Dan's side.
she gave a dirty look to lucky after she saw the attempt to attack. jupitol the wise chuckled to himself-- this whole interaction was quite funny to him. he liked being around rhea and lucky, they seemed to have a lot of fun. (little did he know, most of the time they just walked around and ate potato chips.)
"your welcome," rhea said, pulling away. she looked at the icky waters of the amberwell. "what the scourge did to this place...it's awful." she lowered her eyebrows. "they need to be punished."
"and that's why i'm here, i came looking for them." rhea glanced at dan. "and you're right. they certainly won't be friendly. and neither will i."
"Dan. Nice to meet you," he responded. Not the friendliest of allies, but beggars can't be choosers. Besides, he was here to fight the Scourge, not have tea parties.
Of course, now that he had a fully-vaccinated Assist Pokemon, he didn't need to scamper off to the caves to get ready for a fight. He turned to the woods, peering as he tried to identify any shapes moving in the treeline. Ambrose remained in a fighting stance, as their Sigilyph companion took to the air to keep a watchful eye out.
Rhea was right. It was time to punish these Scourge right the hell out of the Amberwell.
9(18) SCOURGE NOSEPASS - STURDY tackle, harden, block, rock throw, thunder wave, rock blast, magnet rise, magic coat, role play, stealth rock
Charging in blindly is a mistake. It's a mistake from the past, one that it's learned from. Hunters should sit and wait until playtime is over before making their move, for the element of surprise is sometimes the greatest weapon they have.
Part of it wishes they would've finished each other off - the other part delights in the fact that this new prey continues to survive. Because only either the foolish or strong fight amongst themselves in the heart of enemy territory, and which ones are they? What's to say they aren't one or the other, both or neither?
Hunger for the thrill of battle is an unmistakably scourge trait, but it seeks answers to its questions, past the typical push and pull that eos inevitably brings into play. That, in a sense, is the one string that ties it to its partner, an invisible bond that can be felt no matter how far apart they are from each other.
The wind begins to pick up. Azazel giggles while the nosepass in front of it charges in on instinct alone.

"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
A shape in the darkness. Dan and Ambrose turned to the figure approaching, a darkened looking Nosepass. He smirked, finally ready for a chance to show off his Krabby's greatest trick.
"It's time, Ambrose! Ally Switch!"
The Sigilyph vanished into thin air, Ambrose appearing in her place. The rocks may not have been able to do more than dent his hard shell, but the Thunder Wave ensured he wouldn't be getting to pursue the rock monster anytime soon. He gritted his teeth and stood his ground, trying to will his body forward.
Sigilyph appeared where Ambrose once was, flying further away from the battle to the best of her ability. Once at a suitable distance she began beating her wings, generating a bolstering Tailwind to speed along her companions. She then closed her eye, envisioning a powerful psionic assault on the Nosepass sometime in the future. She hoped dearly her Future Sight would come to pass.
Dan wasn't about to stand by and watch his teammates fight, either. He traced out the sign of Palkia, each trace of the Styler drawn as fiercely as a dragon's claw. With one final swing, he tore a Spacial Rend right at the Nosepass. Hopefully it would hit its mark.

They fight, as they always do - the way they fight reminds it of its partner, wherever he may be. The Spiritomb gives a mad giggle, doesn't show its face yet - it's too soon, it hasn't gotten enough satisfaction from watching them struggle against one another just yet.
It watches, waiting to find the answer to why they - and all humans - fight. Nosepass grows hungrier by the second, and it acts upon that, nothing more.
