This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

karimi fights the poison. quite literally, as she removes the gas mask that decima gym had so graciously provided her. the first mouthful of poisonous air chokes her, as if real hands are wrapped around her neck. the seond one is no better. neither is the third. nor the forth. or the fifth.
it's painful, but she has to endure. she has to, if she wants any hope of getting her town back. her eyes water, and she can't tell if it's from exposure to the poison or her heavy heart. she wipes her eyes on the inside of her sleeve.
this is her home now, right or wrong. this is her commitment. this is her right.
one more. just one more week of fighting in bacchus, and she'll be back. she swears it.
karimi looks to the gliscour and lopunny beside her. both of them are poison resistant, whether naturally or artificially. she strokes the lopunny's head fondly. "i'm sorry that you have to see the place like this. it was better last year. you're fine too, right gliscour?"
he's been here a lot, especially recently. no, he doesn't live here like karimi used to and no, he really has no connection to this place at all, but sometimes you want to feel sad. and elias has felt that way before, so he comes here. the most devastated city in all of kohaku-- ruined by the scourge.
there are faint memories of decima. some of the bigger buildings had hosted summer get-togethers or conferences when he was a child, and everyone once in a while his mother and father would take him along. but still: nothing special to elias. this town just gave him a feeling that sometimes, a human needs to feel.
elias doesn't do gas masks usually, but he has one just in case. mandibuzz is supplying a constant defog, blowing most of the poisonous gasses away. still, there is a slight toxic feel to the air around him. elias isn't as strong as karimi when it comes to willpower, and has already started to feel slightly naseous and a little out of it.
he sees a woman in the distance and heads towards her, soon seeing that she's out without a mask. "be careful," he advises. "there are toxins in the air, you know"
karimi wouldn't understand why elias is here. not at all. unless they're here because they believe in decima's future, she's not sure why anyone would want anything to do with the place.
the presence of the mandibuzz puts her at ease, though. it's too early in the morning to be mad at someone else - mad at the agents who only serve to prolong their struggle.
"i heard." she smiles wryly. "kinda hard to miss all this purple. nah, if melchior can be fine, then so can i."
if she's scared of decima's poisons, then how can she effectively fight the scourge?
"better to build resistance now than to be caught off-guard later." this is like regimenting herself, isn't it? she's put her lopunny through the same thing.
melchior, the gym leader here. so now he's encouraging people to take off their gas masks in a toxic hell? what a great guy. elias shook his head. "you sure?" he raises his eyebrows. "nothing's gonna happen to you after breathing all this crap in?" he fingers an antidote in his jacket pocket. "tell me you at least have an antidote or something, for emergencies."
she has a lopunny, he sees the rabbit now that he's closer to karimi. elias could've sworn he saw a gliscor or something too, but his eyes might have been deceiving him. "are you in eos?" he asks, pulling out his wallet, and from it, his trainer card. he shows it to her quickly, just some proof that he wasn't trying to mess around with the town.
elias didn't even know why he had to ask if she was a member-- most people who were in decima were members of eos. very rarely did a civilian wander through a town full of poisonous smog, but...agents had been on the loose lately. there were quite a few, much to elias's disappointment.
she must be feeling the same way, right? so he introduces himself, as if the card's not enough: "i'm elias."
