This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

his room is on the first floor, so raph quickly grabs his bag before waiting out front for sammy. "you ready?" he asks, suitcase in hand and backpack slung over his shoulder.
he's been in proserpina too long; he can't wait to move on. with one of his high school friends, no less. he gives her a grin.
Sammy's definition of "not much" may have been stretching it a little, although compared to moving houses at least once a year a pair of extremely dense suitcases probably counted as "just a little." Pokeballs, art supplies, and clothes all rustled around in her suitcases as she popped out of her door, smiling up at Raph.
"...aren't those heavy?" he asks as he side-eyes the suitcases. his own is a small suitcase that has the bare minimum that he needs, and his backpack is basically a go-bag. anything else he has in storage back in juno.
raph sighs. "if you say so," he says, and starts walking out the center's doors. "i just need to pick up my pokemon from the daycare, but after that i'm good."
Sammy followed after him, surprisingly swift despite the huge weight she was carrying. "How've you been liking Proserpina?" she asked, pretty curious about the town still. Maybe if she hadn't been so dreadfully busy she would've had a chance to give the town a better lookover . . .
"alright. nothing like home, of course, but still, it's a city and it's passable." he leads them to a building that has people crowded out front. well, it was the daycare, so that was understandable. somewhat.
raph leans on his suitcase as they join the line and advance sluggishly forward. "how about you? how's the city life?"
"It's been good, mostly. Never actually been here much before, so it's been a really new experience." Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kanto, Johto, Kalos, Unova, and even Orre: with how often Sammy hopped from region to region, she almost never had much time to spend in Kohaku. Even when she did it was usually the Somnus Ruins, where she was promptly told to stay by herself because the wild Pokemon were far too dangerous.
"Just wish it wasn't always so noisy. Makes it kinda hard to rest sometimes . . ."
raph snorts, taking the edge off the sound with an easy grin aimed at sammy's direction. "nothing like quiet bacchus, with its pure recreational activities, is it? but you have to admit, it's interesting."
a single shrug. "researching. studying. getting in contact with the proserpina branch. trying to help clean up the amberwell. those kinds of things." of course, he doesn't mention the fact that he had to flee from his scourge battle, because he had to keep his pride somehow."how about you?"
It was hard coming up with things to talk about sometimes. And yet . . . here was a friend Sammy hadn't seen since high school. One of the best ones she had, honestly. If there was anyone she'd put up the effort for, it was him.
"Think so," she remarked. "Being able to borrow a few of my parent's books was a big help. Pokemon research was never their area of expertise, but they had a few useful piece in their collection. I'll probably have to give them back when I see my family again, but they were a really helpful starting point."
there's a flash of jealously at the mention of parents, but he ruthlessly squashes it down. there's no time to reminisce, to grieve, any more. only to move on. "that's good. i'd recommend the proserpina gym library if you need any more texts - their collection is huge. i've been there once or twice, but never for long. but it's a good place to look if you need resources."
he peers curiously at her. "what area are you studying, anyway? eos research? pokemon? battling?"
