This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !
Welcome to KOHAKU REGION's grand opening! If you're interested in joining, come check out our grand opening giveaway!
with all of his pokemon dropped off at the daycare center for a while, raph finds he has nothing to do. in a fit of boredom he withdraws one of his other pokemon. frederick is delighted to be out of the pc for once, and scrambles on his shoulder and settles on his head.
raph sighs into his coffee, overlooking the docks, and tries to enjoy the spring weather with an overenthusiastic eevee.
Wow . . . today was a really nice day! Sammy couldn't remember a day this nice in Kohaku since her (rather recent) return. Hell, it was almost as warm as Hoenn, without any of those annoying Wingull constantly dive-bombing her to boot. She sat beneath a shaded bench, enjoying the breeze as she watched the people passing by. Or, rather, their Pokemon: if only they'd stand still so she could sketch them!
Of course, you can only hold your resolve in such nice weather for so long. As she basked in the warmth of the spring, she found herself yawning a little. Her eyelids grew heavy, and the bench started feeling extraordinarily comfortable . . .
BONK! Yep, that was one KO'd researcher. As she was lulled into a sleep her hand slipped onto one of her Pokemon, letting out Borealis. The Feebas began bouncing about, letting out a sighing "Baaaaaas" and occasionally glancing out at his slumbering trainer.
raph glances at the small thudding sound, eyes drawn to the flopping vaccinated feebas on the ground. huh. you don't see that everyday. then he saw its trainer, and he had to blink for a few moments.
he recognizes that hair. he gets up and makes his way over to her, carefully avoiding the feebas. "samantha? samantha eve?" he asks, shaking her shoulder. he's pretty sure he's right.
It probably took a good few seconds of shaking, but soon Sammy's eyes snapped open. She began looking around a bit, confused, before noticing the man stooped down next to her. Immediately she scooted back in a panic, rambling breathlessly out of the fear that she was being accosted by some random stranger.
"Take whatever you want I swear just don't try any funny business I have a Feebas and I'm not afraid to use i-"
She was maybe a few seconds away from flinging her wallet at him and fleeing before she realized just who she was looking at.
...the feebas is just getting pathetic now. raph releases a staryu, which sprays a water gun in hopes of preventing it from dying.
"in the flesh," he comments dryly, before arceus damnit he's forgoing his usual distance from other people and is hugging sammy around the shoulders. god it's been such a long time since he's seen someone from back home.
"you alright? how've you been?" he asks after he releases her from his brief spontaneous hug, looking at her with a critical eye.
Borealis let a thankful gasp, flopping around in the little puddle Staryu had made. Feebas were pretty hardy creatures, but some moisture was always good to have!
Meanwhile, suddenly a hug! Sammy froze up at first, shock in her eyes and a blush spreading across her face. He was always her friend, yeah, but she had changed schools and left behind friends so often in the past. Honestly, she figured he'd just move on, forget about her like everybody else she had to leave behind.
Not today.
She smiled radiantly, hugging Raph back. "Not too bad. I got approved to become a researcher a day ago. And you?"
that's good news, and raph's smile shows it on his face. frederick looks at him in shock. it's the most that his trainer's smiled, ever, and he's quite not sure if he's in a dream or not.
"i've joined up with the juno branch as an eos researcher, yeah. staying put for a bit before moving on." he really does need to, though. perhaps as soon as his pokemon are ready. "a researcher? do you need any help?"
he can't help it. around strangers, around others, around people after bacchus he's crude. grim. scathing. but around people from his childhood - he can't help but try and look after them.
with a grin - and it is freaking frederick out - raph grabs her hand. "i'll take you to see mine, then! you can record all of the ones i have."
it's a short walk to the pokemon center, and raph slots his pokemon into the pc, keeping the staryu and eevee out in case sammy hadn't gotten their entries yet, and withdraws four others.
Sammy's face turned scarlet and the silliest grin spread over her face as Raph took her hand. She gripped his as well, quickly using her other hand to recall Borealis.
"Your Pokemon are so cool! Some really rare ones, too!" she exclaimed, the heart of an artist taking over for her usual nerves. She quickly whipped out her notepad and Pokedex, setting to work on sketching out the six Pokemon in surprisingly good detail. "Please just hold these poses for a bit, this won't take too long . . .
"thanks," he says with a chuckle. teaching others, he's in his element; with pokemon, it's doubly so. "these ones are lower-leveled, so not much, as my battle-ready ones are in the daycare right now. but vektor, my larvesta, knows some more; he's one of the most advanced ones i have. i'll show you him next."
when enough time as passed and raph has gotten a go-ahead from sammy he recalls all six of them and withdraws another set.
>larvesta - that was vektor, >chikorita >rufflet >venipede >turtwig >amaura >withdraw? >yes
Sammy's pencil was practically flying across the page. It was a small wonder that her sketchpad didn't catch fire from the intensity of her sketching. That was twelve already, yes? Raph was being such a huge help!
"Things been going well since high school?" she asked, not even her ironclad focus stopping her from trying to have a conversation.
The sound of a Pokeball opening. There goes Borealis again, flopping on the floor of the Pokemon Center. He looked up at the six new Pokemon, letting out a wheeze and a small wave.
....really. what is up with the feebas? with a sigh the amaura uses powder snow before it is recalled in hopes of keeping it alive.
"...you've improved," raph says as he peers at the sketches. he can remember vaguely sammy sketching even in high school, and it's nice to see that at least some people haven't changed.
"...you could say that. i went to di manes after bacchus fell. lay low there for a while before joining up with eos." what he exactly did in his time there, he doesn't specify. "how about for you? have you been well?"
he withdraws another six.
>finneon - wait, no, it'd just flop - croagunk >nincada >electrabuzz >fennekin >ralts >zorua >withdraw? >yes
The Feebas' eyes lit up with delight. Before it could even start melting into a usable puddle of water, he rolled over and promptly began munching down on the snow.
Borealis was not the smartest fish around.
Sammy, meanwhile, perked up a little at Raph's comment. She shifted slightly, allowing him a better view of her work. "Thanks. I've been keeping up with it for a while now.
Things have been . . . the same as always, really. Glad I'm not getting pulled from region to region anymore, at least."
Borealis began flopping over to the new group of six, smiling. A bit of snow dribbled out of his mouth, but all things considered he looked okay!
"that's good." he remembers that she'd hated it when they were both in school. "so you're staying in kohaku, then? got plans, or are you joining a research branch, or what?"
...they all stare at the feebas. what. in arceus' name. was it doing.
