This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.

The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Kohaku has three types of staff: admins, moderators, and game mods. This application is for game mods.
Game mods volunteer for ONE MONTH at a time. At the end of the month, they're replaced by another volunteer--or they can stay on duty if there's no one looking to take their place.
Game mods are responsible for [encounter] threads, i.e. wild pokemon and npc trainer battles. They are NOT responsible for [event] or [challenge] threads, although they may be asked to if they're needed!
If we have moderator openings, we will consider promoting active and helpful game mods to full moderator status.

? Minjae woke up with a start, cursing even before he had his wits about him. His makeshift camp wasn't much, and he knew that sleeping off the side of the road wasn't safe anymore, but what else could he have done? His houndour had woken him up, kicking his trainer while he growled at fearsomely as he could at the shadows in the woods.
? The gym's doors creaked as she entered, and Keira didn't know to do next. The petilil at her side cowered behind her legs as she waited in the foyer. Nothing happened. Nervously, she coughed. "Um, excuse me?" she called out. "Is anyone there? I'd like to challenge the gym leader--if that's alright, I mean."
? Melek whistled as she walked through the city, not a care in the world. This was her home, after all, and she knew each and every street down to the missing cobblestones at the corner. It was nice to not feel like a gawky tourist for once. To the people she recognized, she greeted and waved. To everyone else, Melek at least smiled, completely at ease.
? He knew the walk wouldn't be too interesting, but this was too much. Bobby had come out here to train his staravia, not to smell the flowers. It'd been an hour now, and so far, not even a peep of a wild pokemon to test his skill. It was starting to get ridiculous.
perhaps the houndour had heard the beating of the ninjask's wings, but that hardly deters the ace of the skies. despite the darkness, the black baron whizzes past the duo's heads, only to double back for more mayhem.
like a moth to flame, he is drawn to the houndour who has so brazenly decided to challenge him. sadly, the ninjask is too inexperienced to realize how accurate that analogy is. he answers the enemy's call with a screech of his own, and buzzes in anticipation of their cowering.
not willing to give the houndour a chance at first blood, the ninjask flies in for a fury swipes. his existence among the slower grass-types who share his habitat has only increased his hubris over the weeks. he doubts that the houndour will even have time to double over in pain by the time that he moves back.
ever since the trainer had appeared, the cherrim had taken refuge behind some look-alike flowers. he blended in fairly well, you see, giving off a subtle sweet scent to strengthen his camouflage just a little more. there was a plan formulating behind the pink petals that adorned his head, and it was foolproof - but he had yet to test it on anyone as of yet.
then again, this trainer seemed to make the perfect subject. with a silent chuckle, he waited for the staravia's back to be turned before puffing out his chest ( or what little of one he had, though he'd never willing admit to that ) in attempts to make himself look bigger. if a cherrim could look menacing, this one was definitely trying.
a glare was shot at the flying pokemon, then moving to do the same to the trainer. after shifting his weight around, he decided to stop waiting for the other two to start a battle and instead launched himself at the staravia in attempts to tackle it. a shrill sound suddenly escaped the grass type as he let out something acute to a battle cry, but it could have easily been mistaken for a cry of fear.
prompt 2: Keira knew that this gym battle would be one of her hardest. She specialized in grass type Pokemon and she was challenging a fire type gym leader. An eccentric young boy, dressed up in a clown outfit opened one of the many doors in the gym, she had heard that some gyms had puzzles like dark rooms or a maze like layout but she never thought it would be in her region. "Quit with ya' yappin', ya will fight the gym leader after you fight me. Ya' game, girly?"
"Um, I suppose - I thought that I would be dealing with the gym-"
"Nah, girlie. I don't know what messed up place ya' be frombut here, you hav' to be fightin' all of us. Got it?"
Rather than speak up, something that she rarely ever did - Keira just nodded. She was signing her death certificate. Hopefully her Pokemon had luck on their side.
"What type a' Pokemon you got, girly?"
"Uh, grass..."
"Just get out, ya' be a disgrace. Ya' hear?"
"W-What?"
"Get out, ya' ain't got the kind a' guts ya' need to challenge this gym, neither do ya' Pokemon." He pointed at her Petill, who in turn completely hid behind her leg. Perhaps he was right, she didn't have any courage, how was she supposed to give any to her Pokemon?
Prompt 4: She was a rogue; an outcast; a loner. The Gloom's petals had yet to blossom. She wasn't decorated like the Vileplumes and Bellosoms in her flowerbed. Their flowers were as beautiful as ever, on a spring day. What should be a large, gorgeous flower on her head was a small, poisonous bud. She had yet to come across one of the special stones that were occasionally found lying in the forest, left by trainers or some other sort who collected items. Everyone else in the village had, and they had disowned her until she came back a beautiful flowered species.
It wasn't her fault that she drooled-the Gloom couldn't help it. She usually tried to disguise the odor with a sweet scent, but every once in a while, someone caught a sniff. And it was bad. The scent of skunk was most dominating- but rotten eggs and old sneakers were on her breath almost always. It was for this reason that Gloom had become accustomed to playing alone in the field.
A bird flew about in the fields today, and the pokemon hid herself and her scent with a beautiful sweet scent. The beautiful smell made most stop and take a large whiff. Unfortunately for Gloom, this wasn't a very good thing, unless she especially wanted someone to have a sour taste on their tongue. "You're disgusting," they had always said to her. Gloom learned to live with it. She didn't care.
It just so happened that the bird was followed by a trainer. Holding a bag. She didn't get to see trainers very often! Maybe this was her chance! She'd become the most beautiful pokemon in the forest. And so the Gloom waddle-ran to the trainer before giving a large leap, hoping to knock the bag out of his hand.

the canine stood still, at attention, and so did the rest of its pack. they lurked in the alleyways of the city like a gang, a large pack of ferocious creatures ready to snap at anything that entered their territory. melek's return to the city was not taken well at all by the leader of the pack as she sashayed through the streets, and it jerked its head towards the mouth of the alley, ordering one of its lackeys to investigate the female.
almost harmlessly, a poochyena stepped up to the plate, and upon order, emerged into the bright sunlight of the city. it whined and attempted to cross the road before melek. at this, the smiles of the passers-by dissolved into gasps and finger-pointing, and it was soon apparent that it was about to get run over -- a trainer riding a rapidash had darted into view!
The moment Keira's words finished reverberating around the apparently empty gym, the lights spluttered out. Suddenly being ensconced in darkness would no doubt come as a surprise for the trainer and her Petilil, neither of whom seemed particularly hardy in the first place. Still, any fear of the dark would quickly be assuaged for a spotlight shone, a column of pure effulgence in the middle of the gym... which began to move towards her!
However, the light's intensity began to wane, just enough so that Keira would be able to see that it was not some supernatural occurrence engaging the gym's lights, but a deliberate spectacle. In the middle of the limelight was a trainer. A special kind of trainer, from the looks of it; the air with which the trainer carried himself would probably tip off the challenger to the fact that this was the gym's leader. Regardless, he spoke to confirm the fact.
"Alors, who have we here? A challenger to my gym, hmm?" If the whole spotlight debacle hadn't indicated the fact before, the affectation on his voice certainly did: he was an eccentric.
By now the spotlight was over both gym leader and trainer; Keira would feel its warmth on her skin. Little did she know, this entrance was fabricated to make the challenger feel as uncomfortable as possible; the electrifying thrill of the battle wasn't something one could just indulge in recklessly, and so the purpose of the gym was to test if the trainer was ready to wield it.
The light revealed the gym leader to be a rather tall man in a dazzling white suit and particularly pressed blond hair, the quiff of which spiralled out in front of him. His blue eyes were intense and his expression that of excitement - clearly the lust for battle still thrived within him. With a wave of his hands the gym illuminated again, and with a click of his fingers a trapeze lowered from the ceiling (which was apparently the leader's box of tricks). After clasping onto the plastic bar, the gym leader was whisked away to the far end of the gym. He must have been wearing a microphone, for his voice carried all the way to the gym's entrance, and to Keira's ears.
"Bon, I shall let you challenge me - show me your drive, your courage, your everything s'il vous plait!"
This was just as he'd been waiting for. Lone trainers, foolish enough to make their way into his forests at the wrong time of night. He was observing from afar and, with a curious tilt of his head, the Duskull's single red eye rolled from one eye socket and into the other.
"Du... du..."
The soft whisper echoed, the Duskull veiled by the dark and the shadows, only that single glowing eye visible when he peeked out behind trees and slipped behind another. He was coming closer, his small body bobbing through the air and phasing through branches as if they were only illusions.
Duskull took the human's canine companion to note. Just a single barrier that blocked his way to the trainer, and the delicious tears and screams that would emit from the flesh puppet. But a barrier, no less. Barriers were made to be broken. And he'd break that Houndour in two.
PROMPT ONE: The air was cool as the small Spoink bounced along the trail. His beautiful pearl had recently been cleaned and spit-shined to perfection, and he felt like showing it off to all the forest pokemon today. Everyone would be jealous of his delicious pearl!~
But all that attention proved to be too much for the pokemon to handle. Out of the blue came a Pidgey with a scowl on his face. That pearl was so shiny...perfect for his nest! Spoink cried out as the bird snatched the pearl away into the sky.
Help! He needed help! A loud squeal left the pig's mouth as he bounced around, only to barrel through the bushes an right into something. Looking up, he saw a scary dog thing and a human. A human! "Spoink! Spoink!" he cried out, pointing to the missing pearl on his head.
She giggled as she skipped through the city, ducking behind bushes and hiding her form in the various shadowed alleyways that she knew like the back of both, red paws. The humans milling around sometimes glanced her way, catching the faintest tinge of red, outlined against a tree trunk in the aftermath of a brief spark of electricity, but nobody ever really saw her. Close encounter, plusle breathed as she dove into a bush following a particularly 'daring' escapade, involving a woman's dress, but that was what made it exciting and fun. This was her home, and plusle loved it, right down to the cobblestones that paved the streets.
Big brother usually kept a strong leash on her, restraining and repressing any means of fun. But today, minun has some business to attend to, leaving her on her own with only a stern warning about doing anything dangerous, especially around humans. And, plusle thought, she wasn't doing anything dangerous, just having the fun she'd always wanted to. Distracting, switching purses and occasionally tripping as well, because she'd always known humans to be gullible, but they were so much more so than even she'd imagined. Which made her little 'pranks' a lot more fun, if not easy.
Plusle did things by impulse - minun advocated planning and structure, but she used 'eenie minun mo' and things worked out just as well, the results just as satisfying. Beady black eyes flickered, carelessly dismissing an old woman and a shady-looking man before settling themselves on an ordinary girl - carefree, cheerful. And certainly not expecting anything, plusle imagined, charging up a small spark in one paw and creeping behind Melek to give the human a little 'shock'.
“Rubbish! Her shrill voice greeted the young girl aside the pitch blackness and eerie breezes.
Nothing was visible, until a safety match lit deep within the dark of the gymnasium. The resulting flame presented the bottom half of a woman’s face. Dark, zigzagoon-like rings held up unseen eyes. A thin smile had a suggestion of callousness. Residents of the caverns knew of her repute like their addresses and ID numbers. Esme, dame of Di Manes, expected confidence from all challengers. It was trait considered more vital to her than actual battle talent.
“Speak up or clear off.” With that, the woman flicked out the flame. A bluer, ghastlier flame took its place but at a lower height. This light hovered on the ground and moved like a smooth pendulum – right and left. Esme needed a little bass in her challengers’ voices. Though she preferred the shadows, the limitations of her darkened room were as real to her as anyone else.
“And yet, I accept your challenge. Maybe your talent can salvage this, after that weak entrance of yours? Three pokémon, single battles.”
“Rubbish! Her shrill voice greeted the young girl aside the pitch blackness and eerie breezes.
