This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

There were two things Dan remembered being told by a senior officer. Don't go it alone, and don't be ashamed to run away.
Last time he had a friend by his side, outnumbering and surrounding the Scourge. Numbers, tactics, and quick thinking overcame the technically stronger force, leading to Dan's first Scourge victory.
How different it was today. Maybe it was the chill in the air, ominous winds circling Dan like a pack of baying wolves. Maybe it was the sheer deadness of the town, a noticeable lack of civilians punctuated by the occasional sounds of a furious battle. If the Amberwell was a fight for survival, then Bacchus was a war.
Even Ambrose fell dead silent, striding in front of Dan's Arbok assist. Recently vaccinated, Jake "the Snake" grinned menacingly at the idea of getting its fangs around the Scourge menace. Ambrose tried to match his companion's thirst for battle, but even his usual scrappiness was dampened by sheer, unnerving fear.
No sound. No energy. Nobody by his side, not even Rhea. For the first time since the start of his journey, Dan felt genuinely unnerved. He stayed close to his Pokemon, clutching the spear he had recently won from the Anvil. They were his only protection against whatever lurked in the shadows of this ghost town.

alex took a deep breath, letting a gentle breeze caress his cheeks. sonata was in his ever home, lying wait in alex's shadow. the teenager, however, was in a patch of sunlight, breathing in the warm air. he looked over when he heard the hiss of a snake like pokemon, and smiled. "why, what brings you here? it's a dangerous place." he adjusted the white masquerade mask on his face, removing the headphones to place them on his neck.
"it's a good thing your pokemon are vaccinated. the scourge is plentiful here."
A suspicious masked individual who seemed all suspiciously at home within the ghost town confines of this forsaken town. Gee, that wasn't a cause for alarm at all.
Dan wasn't much of a shoot-first ask-questions-later kind of guy, but even he was a bit guarded at this sight. "Just passing through for now," he responded, still a bit wary.
Jake's grin widened a little, and his tongue flickered quickly. It didn't matter what Dan's intention was: he sure as hell knew why he was here.
"Seem to be the only thing plentiful here," he responded. "That's why I made sure to come prepared.
How about you? Been surviving things well enough?"

"That makes two of us," he responded. "And hopefully way more than that.
Why are you here in Bacchus, if I can ask?"
Jake had grown bored of this conversation, slowly circling the perimeter and keeping an eye out for any incoming Scourge. Soon, surely, it would be time for the hunted to become the hunter.

alex watched the other circling, noting the alertness in his eyes. he adjusted his mask again and pulled the sleeve over his capture styler a little more. "i've been here a while. spent some time in the gym for a while before coming here for some fresh air, now that the spring is emerging."
he could feel sonata becoming antsy, wanting to attack. the arbok looked delicious to him, and the gengar wanted to feast. "and yourself?"
in the back of his mind, alex noticed the other's capture styler. a ranger eh? not his favourite ranger.
ahuda's horrified scream was still a dulcet tone to his ears.
No Pokemon around him and a trip to the gym? He must have been . . .
qdxv|wf9 >80, Dan notices the styler. <80, ignorance is bliss.
. . . a trainer. Probably came hunting for badges, maybe supporting the war effort after he had found nothing but Scourge. Judging by how casual he was, he probably had an easy time of it.
Still, something about this just didn't feel right.
"Just trying to make my way to Hespera. Maybe clear my head a bit along the way."

"bacchus is an awfully dangerous place to clear your head unless you're sure of your skill." of which alex certainly was. he offered a kind smile. "would you like an escort to hespera perhaps? it's a dangerous way."
Dan was stopped by a quick glare from Ambrose, the crab looking up at Alex hopefully. Seemed for all his talk and bluster, when in the heart of the Scourge Ambrose just lost his nerve.
Despite Dan's reservations, he figured he might as well agree to the deal for his partner's sake. "Alright, guess that makes it a yes."

Dan lead the way, Ambrose keeping very close to him. Occasionally he took a worried poke at Dan's backpack, the pack seeming to wiggle sightly in acknowledgement.
Jake, on the other hand, watched as his ranger walked off. He turned to Alex, grinning and motioning for him to go first. After all, it'd be a terrible thing of Scourge ambushed Alex from the rear, alone and unprotected, wouldn't it?
He knew all the hunter's tactics. Whether to avoid them or to harness them himself was the real question.

"i'm afraid i don't know the way to hespera from here." alex lamented, shrugging. "apologies. i'll lead the way, but no assurance that i won't get us lost."
"That's okay. I'll keep an eye out for any route signs, if it helps."
Jake nodded with approval, obediently slithering back to Dan's side. He quietly hissed out a quick set of instructions for the Ranger's ears only: stay out of the dark, and make sure there was always enough open space to make a run for it if any Scourge attacked.
"Alright, let's head out." An affirmation of Alex's guidance, or the Arbok's advice? He sure as hell wasn't telling.

"My name's Dan. And yours?" Dan kept guarded, and while his weapon was lowered for now his Styler was still primed and ready for action. Ambrose, on the other hand, had given up on walking and had decided to perch on Jake's head. The Arbok let out an irritated sigh, but held his head high as he slithered after Dan. At least the little pest could make himself useful as a lookout from this positon.
