This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

elias wandered. empty corridors, empty desks-- this place was so empty. he gave a sigh, looking to the clefairy next to him. she was scanning the area nervously, eyes constantly flitting around. it was all out of love for her trainer of course, but there was some hidden anxiety inside of her too.
he was excited to find something. hopefully anything but the scourge. nette

the pax institute was quiet, only the constant sound of dripping water echoing against the halls. but that sound was muffled by her footsteps against broken and dirty tile, her two partners and the local forretress assist drifting by her. the mienfoo hadn't evolved yet, but ares had, and now in his charizard form he barely fit in the narrow corridors. with a sigh she directed him out, asking him to keep watch outside the institute.
without the colossal presence by her side it was easy for ahuda to be spooked, and her hand drifted up to her styler as she entered the large room filled with desks and a single person before she saw the vaccinated clefairy.
as soon as he heard the voice he and the clefairy whipped around, prepared for battle. she even put up a light screen before she saw the woman and her mienfoo and foretress. elias noticed quicker, though, and although he adjusted his pose, he kept a hand on his belt, ready to send out pokemon if needed.
"hi." he mumbled, distancing himself further from her. he walked around another desk and pretended to search for papers. "you're a ranger," he confirms, although it seems quite obvious. but the answer doesn't come immediately, so he repeats it.
the light screen shimmers, and behind it she can barely see the trainer and clefairy. but she can see him as he moves around, hand on belt even as he searches the desks. "yes," she says, and watches as her forretress and mienfoo move closer.
"yes, i am. let me guess - you're with eos? trainer or researcher?" a breeder would not have any business here, and she would have heard of a ranger near pax. that only leaves a trainer or a researcher profession.
clefairy looks at ahuda and the mienfoo. smiles at them. she decides not to get any closer, but happily waves as she follows elias around the desk.
"i'm a trainer." elias answers, not looking up from the desk. he opens a drawer. nothing. "i have been for a long time, actually. a year now. almost." he shrugs and opens yet another desk drawer.
"mmm." ahuda declines to comment, but the mienfoo waves back at the clefairy. with a sigh she starts her own search on her side of the room, rummaging through drawers and looking through papers. she has researcher friends - perhaps they can make use of something here.
"still holding up?" she asks idly as she looks. she knows people that have been out here for a year and have broken down.
"yeah." he says, moving to another area. "i just got my final badge." he finds a locked file drawer, and busts it open with a bended twig from his pocket.
"what about you? how long ago did you join eos?" Rsd2bGXg <15 he finds something useful nette

"about a month ago." and oh, doesn't that seem so long ago now. a lot had happened in a month, and ahuda's head is still spinning from it all.
she moves away from this desk and heads on over to a side office, with broken windows and a missing door, and she looks through broken glass and wooden fragments.
"how's that going for you." he asks dryly, pulling open some more drawers. if ahuda thought that a lot had happened in the past month, wait till she hit the year mark. that's when you look back and realize you've become a scourge-killer/zombie-demolition expert.
"as well as anything like that goes, i suppose." ahuda doesn't need a year to feel like a scourge-killer/zombie-demolition expert. she supposes that rushing into things head-first without thinking does that to you.
she gives up on the side room and moves onto another bed of locked desks, which she picklocks with a paper clip.
elias looks around; scratches his head. he didn't come here looking for scourge, but damn elias is confused that none showed up. he goes to one of the very last desks and checks the drawers.
"i hear being a ranger's pretty tough."

"i can't imagine not having a team of six poke--" he stops mid-sentence, looking down into the drawer. "..."nette

there's nothing in the drawers, and ahuda slides them all closed with a sigh. "it depends. some say that being a trainer is tough." although with their crazy leveling skills, she doubts it.
he doesn't even listen to ahuda when she talks, just examines the item in the drawer. "y-yeah." he finally stammers, unsure if it will be of help or not.
JtS2hnX7 <50 it's a document, >50 it's a key, =50 it's a big pile of 6 scourge caterpie, all dead but fresh
he picks it up, and holds it for ahuda to see. the card key displays the words "pax security: all access" on the front. nette

it's a card, glinting in what light is in this abandoned room, and ahuda walks closer to observe it. the words "pax security: all access" has her staring at the card, before sighing and running a hand through her hair.
"do you suppose it still works?" she asks, holding out a hand for the key to examine it further. she wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't, but you never know.
elias keeps a grip on the card, inspecting the code on the back. he can't quite make out any human letters of numbers, but it's probably meant to be scanned anyway. "probably. but i doubt we'd need it these days." he mutters, handing the card to ahuda.
"what i mean is, the scourge probably took down any doors we want to get through."nette
