This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"you could say that. i've been dealing with mine for a while." less than half a year, really, but it'd been enough time to get a handle on them. "how about you? how long have you guys been partners for?"
verte hums. "i've had to start over; i lost my original team to scourge," she offers, her tone a bit too bright to be casual. her eyes are dark. "i've had them for a good while now, though, so i can work with them smoothly. rollins is the clauncher, i'm guessing?"
He wished he knew something to say to try and help. Hell, he couldn't even imagine the idea of losing any of his Pokemon . . .
"I'm glad you're working well with them, at least.
Yeah, Rollins is the Clauncher. Soon to be a Clawitzer, hopefully."
The Clauncher popped out of the backpack, as if affirming that yes, he couldn't wait for that. Shooting bubbles was starting to get old: he needed some REAL firepower soon!
"some of them, yeah. the others have already evolved, or are too far away from doing so. but those that are almost ready just need a battle or two, if that's what you're asking."
"That's good to hear. Don't worry, you two: just a bit more battling and you'll be all set!" Ambrose and Rollins let out little cheers, exchanging a crabby fistbump. It was almost adorable.
she has to think for a moment. "a standard six-pokemon team; gardevoir's on it, but not blaziken. she's not up to snuff yet. i'm guessing the krabby and clauncher are your only pokemon at the moment?"
she has to admit the two fistbumping are kind of cute, and she smiles at them.
You should! Rollins and Ambrose might end up declaring a cheer-off as a result.
Dan grinned a little. "Technically they're no stronger than a normal member of their species, but they get a lot of tricks up their sleeves they wouldn't normally have access too. Ambrose in particular has been able to shrug off attacks as if they were nothing, and I bet he'll only show more potential like that as he gets stronger. They're also really alert, and can attack way more often than usual.
That's not the best part, though. Mind following me outside so I can show you the true power of a ranger?"
Dan was getting a bit theatrical, but he couldn't help it. It was always really fun to show off what a ranger could do.
"sure." verte tosses her cards down on the table and picks up the single backpack she'd come in here with. she'd never met a ranger in kohaku before, which isn't that uncommon seeing how rare they are; she's oddly looking forward to seeing what he wants to show her. "do you wanna go to the rooftop, or head outside?"
"Let's stick to the ground level. City limits, probably," he suggested. "That way we don't end up startling anyone on the streets." Rhea already broke out a Scared Fire in the middle of a bar. Dan didn't need that kind of event burned into the town's memory twice in two days. He had to be responsible, unless he wanted some kind of No Rangers Allowed policy enacted.
Between Ambrose on Dan's head and Rollins chilling in his backpack, Dan looked like some kind of walking aquarium.
startling people? verte raises an eyebrow. "i know a place," she says, and leads them out the casino doors.
y9o6|Jo7 <50 they got stopped for whatever reason
the night's cool air greets them without a hitch, and verte leads them to a park not some distance away. there's no one there, and verte drops her backpack near a tree and leans against it, raising an eyebrow at dan. "this good?"
