This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"thank you." this is probably the first time that anyone has said they were glad to hear her family is in good health, and actually seemingly mean it. it's a novel feeling. "two siblings, but i am the youngest. they've both gone on to be trainers, but not in eos, as far as i know. i'm guessing you're an only child, then?"
"Yep. Gotta admit, it got a bit lonely at times. With how much there was to do around the house, though, didn't really have much time to think about it."
Not that he was anymore. The crab slowly crawling back up to his shoulder was testament to that. So was the fact that this thread has been going on for a hundred posts. Ever since this journey, it seemed that Dan's been drowning in friends!
she side-eyes him. "you good now, though? making friends?"
then verte realizes something, blinks and quickly back-tracks. "...i did not mean to sound like your mother. or sound like i'm patronizing you. really."
she's about to grin when dan asks the question, and she has to pause for a moment in thought. "yeah, but it's hard keeping in touch with all of them. some of the people i've met i haven't seen since."
she looks at him thoughtfully. "how about you? found anyone you're still talking to?"
Dan's smile dropped a bit. "Oh . . . Yeah. Yeah, I have." The lack of sincerity in his voice her was astounding.
The wounds of a broken friendship were still raw, after all. As much as he tried to just forget all about Rhea, somehow his mind always came wandering back. Stupid, overly-fitting conversation topic.
