This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"Rivalry? I gotta here more about this." Dan grinned a little: the idea of two Pokemon squabbling with each other nonstop was just too funny for him keep being morose.
Some clacks started to arise from Dan's backpack. Ambrose had peered inside, bickering with Rollins over whether the Blaziken or Gardevoir was the stronger of that group. Dan gently patted the Krabby on the head, trying to calm him before the two Pokemon ended up making too much noise.
"it happened after gardevoir started using teleport left and right during a training session. when i banned it, it became double team. blaziken is a strict kind of girl; always playing by the rules. she thought using double team was cheating. you can imagine the result." it had been quite explosive. "it didn't help that gardevoir had evolved first, either."
Dan snickered. "Sounds like those are some fun training sessions. And trust me, evolution is the easiest way to start a rivalry. Right Ambrose?"
The crab turned away and huffed, muttering something about a "big fat egg beating him to the punch." Of course, that'd all be changing soon . . . he let out a gleeful chuckle, knowing the second he saw Hapinasu again he'd evolve right in front of her just to show off!
"Not too much. I don't think Ambrose is too happy that a . . .
Right. They weren't friends. That's what she said, wasn't it? For a fraction of a second Dan's smile dropped.
". . . travelling partner's Pokemon beat him to the punch on evolving. Of course, he's very close too: it's why he's been especially jumpy lately, even by his usual standards."
"oh? really?" she peers down at the krabby, appearing as if she didn't notice the hesitation. all kinds of things happen these days. "how jumpy is he normally?"
"Oh, incredibly. And it's not like Rollins being around has made things any calmer. Especially when they go on a late-night snack raid . . ."
He shuddered. The idea of two hyper crabs rampaging through a hotel room was enough to send shivers down anyone's spine.
"He'll probably relax a bit more once he evolves. He's got a huge amount of energy bouncing around in a tiny body, so he's definitely going to need a few outlets for now."
"Ambrose and Rollins are total sweet tooths, lets just say," Dan remarked, chuckling a bit. "I swear, I barely get a chance to eat anymore without them snagging half for themselves first."
Ambrose shrugged, grinning a bit. Guilty as charged!
verte does not giggle, a d'verte never giggles. they chuckle. but still, it's a slim difference, a thin line between the two. "i have to keep mine away from the popcorn, but blaziken loves chocolate, surprisingly. thankfully, i can get enough that i actually have a meal before they consume mine."
At the mention of chocolate Ambrose perked up immediately, and even Rollins poked his head out of his backpack. "Sssh, I'll get some for you guys later, promise," he assured them. Content that their gluttony would be answered, the two returned to their prior affairs.
"I try to as well, but I swear, these two have stomachs of steel. I don't think they're ever done eating."
she grins at the two. that easy connection is palpable, and for a moment she's jealous of it. but she clamps the feeling down easily enough - a ranger can afford to be close to their pokemon. a trainer - not so much. "i'm thankful that i don't have that problem, then," she says instead, and with a sigh returns her eevee to his pokeball. his scampering on the poker table has annoyed more than one player, and she gives them all an apologetic smile.
"how do you keep up with them? them and their appetite, i mean."
